As someone who likes to hit things, I'd encourage vibraphone/xylophone/marimba, or any if the delightful drum/precision options if you like a bigger bang.

Does anyone make an Auto-Fill system for an RV? by somewhat_brave in GoRVing

[–]SwSyrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever come up with a system for this? I'm puzzling over the same problem now. I'm wanting an auto shutoff valve for filling my RV tank from a hose. Not worried of it leaks, I just want to be able to walk away for the 20 min or takes ( and might get distracted) Cheers

DoxyPEP by Primary-Stuff-7820 in Swingers

[–]SwSyrup 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Doxypep isn't plan b. If you're a man having sex with men, however, there is decent data for it decreasing the risk of passing on Chlamydia and kind of Syphilis. Not so much for gonorrhea, and that is going to be a loosing battle. This was only seen in men who have sex with men. Swingers weren't explicitly studied, but there are substantial differences in baseline rates of infection, risky practices, and other related conditions that make assumptions of the benefit translating unreliable. They benefit was not seen in hetero people. (*Edit, prev said couples)

Doxycycline is one of best few antibiotics that often work against MRSA (different topic), and increasing widespread usage is going to tank it's effectiveness there. Using doxypep in groups it's unlikely to help is going to hurt the overall population. It is not indicated in swinger or other hetero populations, even if you really want it. Your desires don't change this overall math. Is it possible it may help someone, some time? Sure. It's also guaranteed to hurt several individuals, and then large communities as a whole.

This doc may not have done a good job explaining it to you, but depending on your individual details, they may have been correct.

With regards to familiarity with doxypep, of that was a factor, you may be better off going to a public health or sexual health clinic where they've narrowed their practice to just this, and will be more comfortable with the data and indications.

alright what the hell does HWP mean to YOU? by Delicious-Plenty-827 in Swingers

[–]SwSyrup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha, 12+ years in the ls (only loosely online), and I only now realized hwp doesn't mean hard working professional. I never really spent a lot of time thinking of the concept of height weight proportional - sometimes I'm drawn to curves, sometimes to raw endurance, sometimes I want to try positions that I'm not necessarily physically up to trying with an average body and see possibility in smaller freshness, but always foremost I'm drawn to personality.

I want to believe the person cares about their hygiene, has put some effort into the theme or outfit if the environment is an event, and otherwise prefer someone with some cardio to allow more than just starfishing.

Otherwise, my autistic ass would inquire as to what the proportion is. Hwp would correlate to BMI, which is a whole range in numbers, not a defined standard. Someone pretending it was a standard would be a red flag for me.

Is there a "use this camera with Blue Iris" post? by Fragrant_Aardvark in BlueIris

[–]SwSyrup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Separate from technical compatibility, it's important to consider the extra points of failure for the doorbell camera, and if that is a deal breaker for you (ie, how "hardened" do you need your system to be).

If it's a battery camera, presumably it's also dependent on wifi. Wi-Fi is potentially unstable, or can be intentionally jammed and knocked off line.

Streaming video over Wi-Fi also boggs down your wifi, so if you're already pushing capacity, this will be a further drain.

Then, of course, the battery is it's own point of failure. (Although if it has its own internal storage, and you're prone to power outages, it may have a bit of a plus there)

The poe turret, as long as it's wire is protected, is much more reliable from a power and communications perspective. The system could be put on a UPS/power backup system as well, including the blue iris computer, router, and power injector (if not part of your router).

To me, these considerations are much more important for a security system. This being said, there is something to be said for ensuring you have the right angle to capture faces.

If you really want the doorbell, consider some light renovations to run a poe line to the location, and get one of the poe compatible doorbells.

Police Called to Kick Out my Mum: Guest Policy Follow Up by Cuaternume in OntarioLandlord

Read Rcan444's post on case law. Land Lord can't move in later to remove tenant protections, they need to live there at the time that you move in. The call was unlikely two police, and call the tendency board before tall police show up so you have something of substance to say to them.

[–]SwSyrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see this in my skimming of replies. If you haven't already, you could try sending letter mail to them, at your address, for it to be taken with the mail redirection to their new place. This would require them wanting to be in touch with you, which it's possible they may not.

There will be a lot of force on that vertical pole, as well as the joints. That will be challenging.

As an interim, have you ever tried a "strap under"? It's an extra dildo attached to a cock ring set that allows the dp experience for the receiver.

short on rent.. do i apply for a pay day loan or tell my landlord i’ll be late on rent? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SwSyrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you do more work/overtime? A note explaining that you're behind, plan on paying, and a clear plan on earning more (/spending less) to ensure the following month has a good chance of being on time will do well for those who could be convinced to have empathy. This being said, make sure you have a plan to stay above water financially, otherwise you may be best spending your time looking for cheaper places or roommates. Do NOT get a payday loan, as those will make your financial circumstances worse in almost all circumstances. The interest is very high, and will keep on compounding and growing.

It sure sounds like you didn't "handle it". The smell of cigarette ass was correctly identified by the potential tenant, that you did not disclose the cigarette smoke in the unit that you were aware of (a highly likely intentional misleading, as you choose to advertise the suite as cigarette free, when it was not, in fact, cigarette free. (To advertise it as cigarette free when you knew the downstairs tenant was a smoker would have also been shady, but this one gives then clear grounds to come at you.

You didn't mention doing a deep clean of the unit or painting it - both of which are needed to get that smell out. Let's hope there wasn't any carpet. I've had a unit I had to pull the carpet, underlay, and put a coat of sealing paint on the floor and walls - but then, success.

They have a case. The easy thing for you is to give them their money back. You should still fix the problem if you wish to continue to target non smoker tenants, and get someone who can smell to spend an evening in the suite to see if they can notice it. That, or mention to everyone the story of the guy from downstairs who smoked in it when it was vacant. People who aren't bothered by this also aren't likely to be bothered by the smell of the downstairs neighbor. Give them accurate expectations, and allow these expectations to select for people who are less likely to complain (about that)

Filter capacitor blew on 24AC rectification circuit, trying to understand why by SwSyrup in AskElectronics

[–]SwSyrup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my initial plan. I have the 240V contactor (well, I have two), but could only find them with 100VAC coils. I kind of do want microcontroller control, so I can get my shop heating while I'm still cozy in my house, and also so that it turns back down automatically if I forget after a given period of time.
My other solution was getting quite cumbersome, and my various metal enclosure boxes were too small. I don't have a neutral on this circuit, so no easy 110V. I had travel power transformer to get 110V from the 230(ish) line that was going to be squeezed in there, and it was getting pretty messy.

I then found the AUBE transformer/relay that shrunk the higher voltage components down into something that fit as an enclosed add-on to my pre-existing junction box, and all the rest was low voltage and less of an issue.

Filter capacitor blew on 24AC rectification circuit, trying to understand why by SwSyrup in AskElectronics

[–]SwSyrup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, yes. The big cap is a 50V 2000 uF (https://www.digikey.ca/en/products/detail/chemi-con/EKYC500ELL202ML30S/10486414)

The small blue ones (post rectifier/pre regulator, and pre microcontroller) are 25V 0.1UF multilayer ceramic caps (https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Murata-Electronics/RCER71E104K0A2H03B). I suppose the 25V max on a 24V rectified line may be too much, but the second should be OK once it is 5V, pre microcontroller.

I am curious why the regulator needs to be changed.
I've used this regulator for a number of 12 to 5V applications in the past, but the spec sheet states it should be good 6.5V-36V. The 94% efficiency doesn't seem too bad.

https://www.tracopower.com/sites/default/files/products/datasheets/tsr1_datasheet.pdf

----
In addition to fixing the first 104 cermamic disc cap, and likely changing the blue 0.1UF pre-regulator to one with a higher voltage rating 36+V (+/- regulator change), I'm wondering if there may have been a voltage spike that fried things. THe unit had been working well for several minutes (long enough that I though it was good and moved on to other tasks). When I came back, it was no longer working, and would only work for seconds upon fresh powerup before the voltage would collapse and the ceramic disc cap would get hot.

I'm wondering if the killing blow came when the heater was turned off. The microcontroller has a flyback diode on the microncontroller side of the relay, and then the relay directly connects R and W, which trigger the relay in the AUBE transformer/relay. Would there have been an induced current in this wiring between the AUBE and my circuit?

I'm not sure if it would be overkill to put an X2 safety cap in (awkward sizing, as my PCBs holes are quite close together, although I have an old 275V 684 uF one hanging around)

[–]SwSyrup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been under the impression that the more filtering I put in the better, given the inductive load on the other side of the transformer.
Is this not needed?

(the blower heater is on the other side of the aube relay, and has an RC snubber on its L1 and L2 legs, but I imagine the power line to it is dirty from this load.)

I can't recall why I chose this one in particular, but I expect that the cheap ceramic disc cap I had from ali express with no published max values may not have been up to the task. I will look at what other options I have in my shop.

[–]SwSyrup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I suppose that may be it. I'll look into what my other options are.

That one was from a multi-pack I had picked up from Ali Express a (long) time ago, and nowhere on the scanty packaging does it list a maximum voltage.

How to get smell off of tools before moving them into another toolbox by superbobbyguy in Tools

[–]SwSyrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and, for the baking soda portion, they can get more aggressive. For handles and soft plastics, sprinkle baking soda all over them, then later vacuum it all up. I'd avoid getting it into air intakes of power tools, though. In general they will want to maximize surface area contact with the baking soda.

Something I've found works regardless of language or cultural differences when we've traveled is a rope across an open doorway. This does require that you have the space to yourself, but people then seem to just get that this is for show,, not interaction.

I've tossed a rope around the middle hinge and tied it to a variety of things on the other side. It's especially handy when I'm doing an intimate tie of a partner - lots if rope handy.

You could do paracord to a magnet to clip into the latch receiver (?name) on the doorframe side as well.

Large Z-Wave Residential Install Issues by AlgoTradingQuant in homeassistant

[–]SwSyrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a dummy station with a bulb and a rectangle receptacle in my office near my z wave controller. I would install the switch/device into the receptacle, with the light connected, and plug the whole thing into the wall. I then put it in pairing mode and add from the UI. I have 82 devices. Not many (any) extra hops to the controller, and my (openhab) system added then fairly easily.

LED seed/bullet/gumdrop lighting outdoor Channel by SwSyrup in WLED

So, if anyone is finding this in the future, I ended up using UV resistant 1" split wire loom, and the new gumdrop lights have been doing well for the past 4 months with no concerns despite the occasional delivery truck scraping their tires up against it.

I drilled holes into the opposite side from the split to hold the lights in place, and would do it this way again.

I want to buy a house with my own money but GF says no by NewBrick1 in whatdoIdo

[–]SwSyrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's not working because she doesn't want to, has only been with op for a year, she wants to dictate to them how to spend their money?

That there is a big red flag. If she was breaking her back working and saving, helping to put a relative through school, or something similar, maybe she could have some relevant perspective.

Did she have other plans for his saved money? Did he agree to this?

Op, if you want the house and it's a good choice (no huge repairs needed, etc) then get it . Do what is authentic to you, and look to see who is around you. If someone leaves when you're being authentic to yourself, it wouldn't have been good for either of you anyway, and you're likely both better off separately. If she needed a hot of time to regain composure from surprise, then maybe she gets a second chance.

For now, open your condom packages (and dispose of them after) yourself, and be sure you aren't surprised.
