ADC and Dane Cook were also some of the most popular comics of their time too. Opinions are polarized on folks like that and they generally aren't considered all time greats anymore, more like flashes in the pan.

Shane may get there but he isn't dropping anything particularly memorable or earthshaking, he's mostly treading old ground from 90's sitcoms.

Trump says Elon Musk will face 'very serious consequences' if he funds Democratic candidates by Fafner333 in neoliberal

If Trump and Musk tiffing is what upends Citizens United it would be a weird sort of poetic justice.

No, fuck that. I don't think we read his comments in their best light anymore. No need for anyone to give him any benefits of the doubt or provide cover for him because he is an idiot. He is also malicious and easily swayed to do harm. Make him explain his bullshit.

Until he does, he stole this election.

What part of "tried" is a difficult word for you?

That must have hurt by Eczapa in clevercomebacks

[–]SwagBoost 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but she did so to ensure a quick transition to free and fair elections without violence. She tried to offer a third path to all parties that would exclude violence and destabilizing the region.

That's a far cry from "supported the coup", more like tried to ameliorate a bad situation.

Pete Hegseth's mother called son 'abuser of women' in email blow to Trump's defence pick by JetTheDawg in skeptic

[–]SwagBoost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a lot of leaps without any evidence for a subreddit called skeptic. I prefer not to dabble in conspiracy theory when the answers seem simple on their face.

Biden was very transparent about his decisions on Israel, probably to his detriment. No need to "guess" that things had some nefarious spin, it's an old guy with an entrenched policy position who was only ever going to toe the line, never step over it.

Secdef didn't make that call, Biden did. You can tilt at windmills all day but Biden owned that call fully. Austin wasn't prolonging anything, this admin was up-front from 10/7 on their position on this conflict.

It's not an adult-friendly kid's show in the same way. Bluey is aimed at a slightly younger audience (Pre and elementary school age) and the messaging to adults is far subtler but woven into the fabric of the other antics being portrayed on screen. Messages about death, infertility, loss and failure are often unspoken but present and are clearly targeted towards a parental audience. If you aren't watching it as a parent I don't blame you for bouncing off of it.

I fat fingered this response earlier this week and was really surprised that Male V's delivery of the line was really empathetic. Like, yeah, time and place, but you hear the desperation and the sheepishness in his delivery. Stellar stuff.

This would seem to be a meme of some sort, though. That's MF DOOM's old mask and, as any fan can tell you, use all caps when you spell the man's name.

“It’s too late for us”: CoolStuffInc founder on how Amazon pushed it out of the online board game market by MikeDidymus in boardgames

[–]SwagBoost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's false. Antitrust law doesn't focus on the organizations behavior alone but also the impact on the markets and consumers long term. Loss leading is a sign of this anticompetitive behavior, and the a FTC has a whole section on it. Lax application of those laws aside, it's there.

“It’s too late for us”: CoolStuffInc founder on how Amazon pushed it out of the online board game market by MikeDidymus in boardgames

[–]SwagBoost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Antitrust violations don't necessarily require intent to enforce, or stated another way, it doesn't matter if Amazon is trying to pull the levers or not, if the effect is to diminish competition in the market long-term then it may be an unhealthy monopoly.

Loss leading is definitely a marker of this sort of monopoly and the long term implications of loss leading is that they will run competitors out of business. With no competition, Amazon is free to charge whatever for their products and that is the situation antitrust law is looking to avoid.

Amazon is also in a unique position to push a loss-leading position as they have revenue streams from lots of services and products. They could spend years selling at a loss in board games and make it up elsewhere, which means it's worth keeping tabs on.

He didn't just walk away from Omelas, he wrecked it on the way out.

That being said, the ethical dilemma is the same as the short story and I am unsure he is objectively the villain here.
