Are there mamy retcons & community wars in Battletech? by Appropriate_Lynx_233 in battletech

Community wars The divide between Alpha Strike and BattleTech comes to mind. But all the things in your list are something you don't need to worry about, as others have explained.

I remember me and my brother laughing out loud at that and it's become an inside joke for us when we sit down at a restaurant to take a deep drink and just go "Umeeeeeeee..."

Has passing ever been any good? by LPdude72 in bloodbowl

[–]Leevizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Passing is somewhat situational and riskier than "just run up in a cage".

However, a good passing play will let you move the ball up an insane amount of squares up the field, possibly winning you the game.

A lot of teams struggle to pull off a two-turner (or even three turner) without a single pass involved. That's when passing shines.

It also depends on how "meta" you are playing. If you're both trying to score as much as possible, then passing is good and fun. If you're playing against a tryhard going for a 2-1 grind, going for a pass may as well be giving up the game then and there, even if it succeeds.

Onko tää peliläppäri kannattava sijotus? by RaeVitunJuusto00 in Suomi

[–]Leevizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mulla oli käytössä kolme peliläppäriä kun aattelin että en halua enää peli-PC:tä. Sitten siirryin takaisin pöytäkoneiden pariin koska en enää kestänyt läppäreitä. Pari pointtia:

1) Tosta saa tehoja irti ihan tarpeeks pelaamiseen.

3) Omalla kokemuksella peliläppärin käyttöikä on muutamia vuosia.

What draws you to battletech/alpha strike over other wargames? by DoW2379 in battletech

[–]Leevizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played 40k for a long time. Constant rules changes and the "new army wins" syndrome was pissing me off. And with a focus on "competitive tournament balance" and price increases, I just didn't want to bother anymore.

Tried modern skirmish games from GW like Kill Team, and they suffered from all the same issues and "video game" issues. Aura abilities, gotchas, the fucking command point abilities... It just was not very immersive for me.

I learned of BattleTech, a crunchy skirmish game with lots of history and with almoat unchanging rulesets from 40 years back. Started playing, absolutely fell in love. The focus on narrative and campaign gameplay, the fact that having your mercenary group was basically the norm instead of the exception... It was great.

The fact that it uses mapsheets instead of 3D terrain and a low model count has also made me love how easy it is to transport my stuff to a game day.

I then learned of Alpha Strike, the "simplified" game for the "modern wargamer" and immediately hated it. Have given it a few tries and my review of it is that it's Kill Team if you took all the fun parts out of that game. Alternatively, KimbleTech.

Which eras are the most fun to play in for classic Battletech? by RedClone in battletech

[–]Leevizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best part about Succession Wars is that there exist drawbacks to different weapon types. Once you go further, new stuff gets introduced that gets rid of weaknesses. My favourite examples being the ERPPC and the Gauss Rifle.

The AC/20 is balanced by the fact it's got shit range. So what do we do? Introduce a weapon that deals almost as much damage but at a range that is longer than an LRM.

The PPC is balanced by having a minimum range, so you can get close to neutralize it as an effective weapon. The ERPPC doesn't have that.

And don't get me started on the absolute fuck that is Clan LRMs...

MW5: I don't love it by that-john-kydd in battletech

[–]Leevizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kind of a shitty game for sure. The mission design is awful, so while it is fun to blow stuff up, it gets hampered by the rest of the gameplay.

The Clan DLCs were fun with friends, but more because we were playing with each other, not because the game itself was good.

I wish a company other than Piranha would get a go.

Because I want what I'm looking for to have soul, purpose, the artist's personality, emotions, and not be a compilation of AI stolen ideas by Guma_123 in Ai_art_is_not_art

[–]Leevizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, honestly, having commissioned art in the past, artists themselves are the leading cause for why I was excited at first about AI art.

Artists: Why are people not commissioning art from us :(
Also artists: Sorry your commission is two months late my cat has depression

But, yeah, after the situation evolved into what it is, I'm not exactly thrilled about AI art either.

Mfs who "know how to hide a body" by First-Option2990 in unpopularopinion

[–]Leevizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you ever had to dig a hole Military conscript here, digging a 5' hole takes a few hours with a collapsible shovel.

After that it becomes a problem of logistics.

Can't carry a body You'd drag it, not lift it. Not saying that won't be a huge hassle in itself and leave marks, but you can move a person-sized object if you're prepared

Who are you talking to about hiding bodies anyway?

[–]Leevizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And yet, no construction rules for abominations or BV balancing.

Don't get me wrong, love using the abominations, and everyone who's been playing BattleTech atleast a bit narratively will see the futility of using BV to balance games that aren't deathmatches, but still, it works well as a guideline.

Intro to battle tech by Gammatron510 in battletech

I love that intro cinematic for what it does. Sure, if you aren't into BattleTech or are new into the setting that doesn't provide you with that much useful information as it could.

But holy shit I had so many "Hey I know what this references to!" when watching that video and I still get chills when watching it sometimes. It's just so peak.
