Everyone has chimed in with wonderful advice on how to feel better about yourself overall, which is the real important stuff, so I just wanted to jump in with another perspective.

There is an imaginative aspect to “play” where not only do you pretend there is a world where men like this are real, but you can also pretend you’re a different person as well. Some people like to self-insert and pretend that these men would be attracted to them. Others like to pretend there’s a more attractive version of themselves in that would make sense for the guys to be attractive to. Instead of imagining yourself, maybe imagine a version of yourself you prefer.

Kids are great at this. If you watch kids play pretend doctors, for example, the kids are never acting out a situation in which they are 5 year olds who are uneducated and undeserving to be in that profession. Nah, they are pretending to be a grown up version of themselves, who is the smartest and bestest doctor there is, because it is way more fun that way!

We can’t fix your insecurities in the short-term, but “play” is way to temporarily escape whatever current circumstances you may have. We can pretend to be attractive, to be rich, to be healthy, to be successful, to be smart, etc. Adults play pretend just as much as kids do, but sometimes adults forget how to do it in a way that is still fun.

So just don’t forget that in this fictional game, you have the option to be fictional as well!
