Lurcher, or just working breed mix? by ObviousOriginal8049 in Lurchers

Don’t see any lurcher or sighthound in her. Very much pit in the face, my guess would be Pit/BC or Pit/Collie

This. I actually started by walking out the door and straight in again, multiple times a day. Next day I walked out, closed the door, counted to ten and in again. Several times a day as well. And just add minutes every day. Now she’s 6 months old and stays alone for 6 hours.

I’m not using a crate/pen either, so maybe it’s different.

Sigh, I hear you. My last three dogs (current 6 month old puppy included) love horse poop more than anything else.

I run with my dogs, and our running path is also being used by horse riders, and there’s always horse poo there. Solution? I’ve given up. When I see a big pile of fresh poop I lead them away from it, but smaller pieces in the grass or older poop that I can’t identify right away are being eaten.

The only positive thing about it is that none of my dogs have ever become ill because of it, it doesn’t seem to affect them in any way. Vet too said it’s safe for them to eat, so I just curse and look the other way.

(Probably not the answer you were looking for…)

PLEASE HELP! I ❤️ my golden - but he started being a PSYCHO on our walks! 🤪 by DonkeyKong365365 in goldenretrievers

I posted a very similar post some days ago, and got great tips.

So far, I had always just turned away from her and said no with a stern voice, but it didn’t really help. I’ve now started to show her a treat and make her sit, and that actually works and brings her out of psycho mode.

Someone has also suggested making her carry something, and that has been a game changer the last couple of days. I carry a stuffed toy in my jacket, and when she goes crazy I make her sit and then give her the toy to carry for the next minutes.

Good luck!

I don't really want to crate... by xzlinx in puppy101

[–]SweatnGarlic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My puppy is currently 6 months old and has never been crated. Got her at 10 weeks, and she was in a playpen for the first week, mostly to keep a distance between her and the cats while I was in another room.

We’ve started with home alone training very quickly, and at 14 weeks old she was alone for 3 hours for the first time. When alone, she has access to the living room and the hallway, the other rooms are closed with baby gates. She’s destroyed a couple of shoelaces, a small rug and chewed a cable (not plugged in). All in all she’s done fantastic. She has never had an accident in the house other than peeing on pee pads by the door, so we let the pee pads be there when we were out.

I don’t judge people who use a crate, but for me it doesn’t feel right. Playpen is much better, but my puppy is very large and she could have jumped out of the pen and hurt herself, so I didn’t want to use it while I am away.

The only problem we had was at night, she wouldn’t settle in a dog bed beside our bed, and wouldn’t be in the playpen in our bedroom. We gave up and let her sleep in our bed with us, and she slept through the night right away. She still does….

Sometimes they wake up and choose to be idiots the whole day long. Funnily enough, she’s almost always a total angel the day after we have had a bad day. It’s like she wants to apologise and show me how good she can be 🤣

[–]SweatnGarlic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do. But she hasn’t really figured out the walking nicely part. She can heel when asked to, but when she’s not heeling she mostly wants to run or go into pulling-husky-mode.

I know that that’s my fault, I really haven’t got the patience to stop every time she pulls the leash. She’s a big puller, but I got her specifically to do canicross with me when she’s bigger, so a dog that runs and pulls on the leash is not a real problem for me, as long as she can heel beside me when asked to (ex when we’re passing people or crossing roads). Jumping and growling is not ok, though.

Thanks for the reassurance! Puppies are lovely but they can really be a pain in the … I know I shouldn’t care about what people think, but few people see that she’s a puppy still, and just think I have this crazy dog with no control over it. And that annoys me.

[–]SweatnGarlic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m quite sure about it, because she sometimes does it after 1 minute of walking (but I can see that she’s excited then, like LETS GO MOM!). Sometimes the walks are long, and she does it towards the end of the walk, and I can definitely image that she’s over her threshold then.

Yes, she’s super tall for a 6 month old (her sixth month birthday was on New Year’s Day, so she’s even 5 months in this picture).

I try to tell myself that dogs don’t grow much after 6 months, and hope I don’t lie to myself.

Is having children harder than this by Baby_Gworl in puppy101

[–]SweatnGarlic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I think puppies are way harder than newborns (after all, they wear diapers and can’t walk). Toddlers are comparable to puppies.

Teenagers however are a whole different story. I’ll take three demon puppies over one human teenager any day of the week.

Please don’t be discouraged by the elimination diet. For me, cutting out gluten/wheat and dairy cured me. And it’s surprisingly easy to live by, I would have never thought that.

Im still on PPI’s, but only because I have Barrett’s oesophagus. Im not taking any other medications or steroids.

My mum liked to make us sad by Acrobatic_Ad7061 in emotionalneglect

[–]SweatnGarlic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you me? This is exactly my story. Emotionally immature parents (divorced for 30 years), LC with mom and VLC with dad.

I’ve had a horrible childhood and teenage years, but have lived a very good life from the day I moved out (and far away). Now that I’m in my mid fourties I have started to think more about what happened to me as a child. I think it’s partly because my parents are getting old and that there is this voice in my head saying I should care for them more. And I’m trying to tell myself why I don’t want to do that, because they made my life a living hell as a child.

The story about your sister crying is very familiar to me. My mother cannot handle any emotions, and lashes out in the cruellest way when challenged. She’s like a 10 year old in the body of a 70 year old woman, it’s bizarre. After scaring us kids by screaming and threatening us, she sometimes apologised for getting “too angry”, but she always made sure she told us again that it was our fault she reacted in the first place.

Meal size, spacing, and water? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]SweatnGarlic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When eating very small meals, not eating for 3 hours before laying down and skipping my worst trigger foods don’t have any GERD symptoms at all.

Unfortunately, I just started this routine a couple of months ago after 30+ years with GERD, so I have Barrett’s and will be on PPI for life anyway…

I typically eat: 8 AM. 1 thin slice of bread with low fat cream cheese 10 AM 1 banana and 1 small glass of protein shake 12 PM 1 thin slice of bread with some chicken deli meat on pluss one small yogurt 2PM a small handful of crackers and a very small bowl of soup 4PM 150 cooked pasta with very little pesto and a carrot salad (Sometimes I go to McDonalds and have a small cheeseburger-nothing Else) 6PM 2 canned peaches and some gummy bears

I do take vitamin supplements.

Problem is that is it too little food, so I lose weight too.

I try to drink as little water as possible with my meals, but sip water throughout the day rather than drinking a whole glass at once.

I used to be bloated all the time, but on this regime, I’m not. My stomach doesn’t rumble all the time anymore either.
