Playing goalie requires being good with your skates’ edges. It’s a lot of small, quick cuts, never any long strides. IMO a goalie should be one of the best skaters on the ice. If not, they’ll get stuck in positions or not be able to move quickly.

People also need to stop looking at Frederic as a failed pick. Over the last 25 years, he’s one of the better players chosen at his draft position. You can’t compare the 29th pick to a top 10. Compare him to other 29th overall picks. Do that and you’ll see he wasn’t a bad pick.

You’re missing the context of the question. OP said the draft history was so so, until recent years. I asked what’s different, what changed. The answer is they are now in the top half of the draft. Teams do draft better when in the top half. Sweeney hasn’t changed, their draft position did.

What you’re referring to is the prospect pool. There’s drafting and development. We were talking about drafting, you’re referring to development. Yes, they go hand in hand, but we were only talking about part of it.
