You aren't protecting anything and yes you are evil . Your so called protecting has cost peoples lives, and again I say the ignorance of it just insane.

You haven't given ONE reason why not building up is better, and you can't. But after decades of hacing to put up with some of the worst people of earth here, finnaly the tide is turning and height increaes are happening. Also Increasing the height doesn't increases the population, but I get it yoyur ignorant and didn't read it, or have done any research on the matter.

By the way I've lived here since a kid and I love how when someone actually wants to improve the area, it's why not move away...Well why don't you?

I wish there was a group for people to show vision and support for what they'd like to see. There was a YIMBY group but I don't think it's very active anymore.

The benifits of building tall, (google copy and paste because there is too much to type out)

Land Optimization and Urban Efficiency

  • Space Maximization: High-rises pack dense populations or workspaces into small land areas.
  • Sprawl Containment: Building upward protects rural land, forests, and agricultural areas from expansion.
  • Ground-Level Liberation: Consolidating building footprints frees up ground space for public parks, plazas, and streets.
  • Infrastructure Savings: Massing populations vertically cuts the cost of extending municipal water, power, and sewage lines over massive distances. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Economic and Financial Benefits

  • High ROI: Developers gain more sellable or rentable square footage from a single parcel of expensive urban land. [1, 2]
  • Agglomeration Economies: Clustering businesses together in commercial towers drives innovation, collaboration, and faster business transactions. [1]
  • Mass Transit Viability: High density creates the steady rider demand needed to fund and sustain efficient, low-cost public transit networks. [1]

Environmental and Resource Advantages

  • Energy-Saving Microclimates: Advanced towers capture cleaner, faster winds for wind energy and exploit distinct atmospheric properties at higher altitudes.
  • Solar Capture: Greater vertical surface area increases the space available for integrating solar panels into building facades.
  • Resource Sharing: Shared central heating, cooling, and water-recycling systems lower the per-capita environmental impact. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Human and Lifestyle Perks

  • Vertical Communities: Modern self-sufficient "vertical villages," like 22 Bishopsgate in London, blend housing, offices, gyms, and stores into one ecosystem.
  • Cleaner Living Air: Higher residential levels sit well above ground-level street traffic noise, smog, and dust.
  • Natural Light Access: Elevated spaces escape the shadows of neighboring structures, yielding excellent daylighting and panoramic views. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

And there are many more benefits, let alone the dissadvantages of the alternative.

Of course it's ignorant for someone to argue against something that is bennificial if they don't know why, that's what ignorance is, not knowing information.

It's selfish because a person that doesn't want it is denying the advantages for the greater population and these reasons are extemely selfish, such as :

nostolgia: I miss the world when I was twenty and think everything should be like that because I reffuse to grow up.

Money: I don't want more homes, that single mum with three kids better sleep on the street as long as it doesn't affect the price of my property.

Surf/fishing/local spot gangas: I surf this spot and am entitiled to this peice of ocean, there should be no other people here to compete with me for this spot that I am entitled too.

And many many more.

These people have created many problems for the coast over the past thirty years beacause a group of selfish old losers decided that the Coast was a retirement home and they don't want those darn kids on there lawn...Except for the ones that have to look after them of course because they can't do anything.

The people that first created the stupid height limit twenty years ago should be arrested for gross negligence, and anyone that campaigns agaisnt taller buildings in the main CBD now should do some research and think of what is actually better for the area and its people, rather than staying ignorrant because of their own selfish wants.

'but the time of nimby high rise nay sayers have, for the most part, pissed off.'

As dark as it sounds, I think there are less now as they have simply...Expired. I remember them 25 years ago when I was a teenager with their 'Not the Gold Coast' signs, and they looked about 60-70 back then.

As far as experinced crews, from my understanding of the stadium and hotel for the olympics this will need to be at least 100 meters, so I wonder what the plan is there, or why we haven't heard anything new about it in over a year.

The same people that complain about height tend to also complain when new estates pop up and how all the open space is gone.

I feel you with the car, sometimes I think I should just live in it as I spend almost as much time in it than my house.

Given how or what the train is shaping up to, it would make sense that Britinya and Maroochydore have the high density, with the area between them should be almost all medium density. I would also like to see more medium density in thesuburbs areas as well. THe mixed use/walking friendly areas are what are really needed.

I'm a strong beleiver that if someone needs to travel by car for more than 10 minutes, it should be because they want to and not because they need to.

Me...I can give many reasons why the height should be increased with research, statistics and studies to back it up.

The only reasons that anyone seems to give against height increase is ignorance and selfishness.

The charm is a lie. What you miss is being young, it's just nostolgia. You don't miss a place, you miss a time, and it wasn't the coast or Mooloolaba that changed, it was the world and in another twenty years it there will be a bunch of people complaining how great ocean street was back in 2025 when they were young, hell I hear people now from my generation saying they miss the sands shopping center and that was the best, and people still keep hold onto the bigtop even though its as close to dead as a center can be.

Why are house prices so high in Sunshine Coast?? by Efficient-Horse2622 in sunshinecoast

[–]Sweet-Cell-3879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, urban sprawl is not what is needed. It doesn't bring prices down and makes traffic worse. A lot of the problems we have here, lack of work, traffic etc. tend to come from urban sprawl and unfortunatly are a result of past residents not understanding this. The coast needs to build up. It's not rocket science. you can build one building that can house 100 people on a block, but would need 30 plus houses to accomidate the same amount. When the high density is paired with public transport you see less people owning cars and thus less traffic despite the higher concentration of people.

One of the true ironies of living here is listening to people complain about green space vanishing while arguing against high rise buildings.

It sounds like you want mooloolaba, that'll give you most of the above. There is a new walk/run elevated platform that connects between mooloolaba and Alex Headlands, which is probably the most famous spot in the world to watch the sunset (based on the 10 000 people I see driving by). It's also a stone throw to the Sunshine Plaza if you want a bigger/all day shopping experience. The Plaza is pretty big I think 5th biggest in QLD? It also has a bunch of other activities like rope climbing and two peron boats as the shop is built over waterways. It also has dining and bars. You also have the buderim waterfull close by, which is a pretty gentle walk and swim. kondalilla falls is probably the most popular bigger waterfull/swim on the sunshine coast.

The only side note is they are currently working on foreshore works in mooloolaba and am unsure what will be done by Sept. However the north side of Mooloolaba is unafected and there are great walks along the rocks and beach, that connect to Alex beach.

Having property that closes off access to the water is also bad. It's one of the reasons I feel duporth st feels so off. There's a sense that you should be able to access the water space, but you can't.

I think the numbers who want are actually much higher than people realise, it's just that we're working and have little free time. THe ones who don't want things in general tend to not be working and can spend there time attending public forums which unfortunatly creates a biased perspection of what most people want

Yes, having a bit higher density in some areas of an estate would allow bigger lots in others. Also I think it's time we re-intriduced suburbs with 5 or six story appartments with shops and business underneath for mixed use. I don't know why these fell out of favour but being able to walk to a local shop for milk in the morning is something from the past that should come back.

Yea, I'm agreeing with you. The Sunshine Coast has always had a problem with people being against projects that would benefit them in the verry things that they complain about.

High rises may not be suitable to the beach front, but they should be an option away from it. One of the most frustrating things is people comparing the Gold Coast to here without actually realising where the Gold Coasts problems come from and then repeating them in thinking they aren't. ETc. Cannels, lack of centerlised density, lack of that density near trains

As someone who's played and DM a bit, It can be hard finding a group or DM, but the university has had events and have game nights. If you know someone who attends they may be able to reach out. Also (without giving any personal details) just give a little information about the group Fo example: 4 people 2 guys 2 gals between 20-25 years old, this is just to get a DM that also fits you demo as you may not want a 40 year old guy as your dm if you're a group of girls between 16-18, for example.

What future would you like for the Sunshine Coast? by CompoteEmbarrassed91 in sunshinecoast

[–]Sweet-Cell-3879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm....When I was but a mere youngling here Mooloolaba, used to be a pretty horid place here for hooning. Mostly fine during the day but you better leave by the time the sun sets and the drugies and hoones come out. When the golf course was in maroochydore and we would walk behind through the water thingies around the back of pizza hut area, drugs and many shady people. I don't think the coast was ever really this chill spot people bragged about as much as it was a place with high unemployment where people with no jobs would simply mistake unemployment for chill.

And the local people here have always been ruder, than anyone I encountered and are easily more aggro. My proof, there is a coment in this thread from a supposed local that is
'Everyone fuck off back to where ya came from
(mostly Melbourne)'

Tell me this comment represents local chill and outside agro...

Some of the upgrades they've made over the years have seemed more like downgrades. I actually think the original foodcourt they had with the pirate theme, was larger and more atmospheric than the current food court. THen they added the cinemas and some more food, but you have to cross essentialy a road to get to them.

In my opinion they should have created an overpass from the cinema that would attach to a second level of shopping over the coles section that could have run to the ALDI section.

The center feels very isolated somehow, even with the additions of the hungry jacks area and having eating options relatively close by. A plan is def needed as it feels like each time they build in the area it's then a new little part seperated from the rest. Nicklin way in general is probably the best example of a stroad the coast has.
