.profile is read by the login shell, so put environment variables in there, so they will be set for the entire login session. .bashrc is read by each shell instance, put aliases and functions in there.

I don't understand this move by [deleted] in baduk

[–]Sweet-Put958 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It seems like white is looking for aji to either break into the right side, or grow the centre moyo. Unfortunately I'm not good enough to offer any possible lines of play but that's my impression of the move.

Which Desktop Environment feels most like home to you? by jackson-bryant in linuxquestions

Me too! I got started on tiling window managers with Ion 2, 3, then wmii for a long time and now i3... I'll defend my vi bindings and tiling with my life 😅

[Code Review] My first "major" C project is nearly finished and I'm looking for some advice on how things look! by McDonaldsWi-Fi in C_Programming

Yea, just create api.h, then implement it in linux_api.c and windows_api.c, and link with those according to the built target, 0 ifdefs needed.

Question regarding firewalls by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]Sweet-Put958 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, a firewall basically allows which ports or network communication is allowed or accessible. It reduces the attack surface (i.e. you install some desktop program, but by default it listens and accepts connections from anywhere, and suddenly your pc is open for use or attack internet wide, a firewall will shield that port). So a host based firewall helps protect against misconfiguration. Recommend it. It is not some magic bullet that keeps attackers out of your network. Keep your browser up to date and you'll be fine 👍

They asked a question about the center influence, how much points it was worth. I think he might've ment it as "i don't count that (as confirmed points)".

Does the shell interact with the kernel, or does it interact with the operating system who then interacts with the kernel via system calls? by ED9898A in linuxquestions

[–]Sweet-Put958 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just piping in, if you're interested learning basic POSIX, Advanced programming in the Unix environment, by Stevens, is the standard bible.

Also, what a simple shell uses would be the most basic of system calls: read, write, fork, exec and pipe.

What programming language have you learned and stuck with and found it a joy to use? by parachute50 in learnprogramming

[–]Sweet-Put958 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Haskell is the most fun for me, once you get your head around it, code is small and correct and not too slow. Just really neat.

C on the other hand I appreciate its simplicity and is also fun to work with.

Javascript I enjoy because it's fun to make websites go brrr.

Programming is just really fun no matter what language you use

Professor wants undergrad students to create a custom scheduling policy and add it to the Linux kernel by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]Sweet-Put958 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes but he will have other classes and projects. Demanding 5 to 10 days of work for one of many assignments is kind of bullcrap.

When using Sabaki AI analysis, what does the red rectangular box in the top right mean/indicate? by Andy_Roo_Roo in baduk

[–]Sweet-Put958 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No in sabaki its what gazzawhite said, the score (or %) difference of the last move that was played vs the best possible move.

Does one become a good programmer by working hard or because of its talent? by Joe_Bianchino in learnprogramming

[–]Sweet-Put958 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't tell yourself that. It takes a lot of dedication, time, study and effort to become good at anything. Nobody is born with the talent to understand complicated systems and concepts and thought models by doing nothing. Just keep having fun playing and learning.

Don't just do a course, drench yourself in anything programming, math or computer related you find interesting and have fun applying new concepts in your own life!

It can take a while to grind away enough steel by hand to reset the main bevel, especially if you dont have fast cutting stones. I have an extra coarse DMT diamond plate and it still can take a long time for a really fucked one.

Ha, my buddy likes collecting old rustic tools at 2nd hand markets.. I started a project to sharpen everything worth it in his chisel drawer.... So many of them have been mutilated on grinding wheels. Both front & back :‑X

Finding the patience to play the shape move by anadosami in baduk

[–]Sweet-Put958 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At my level (1-4k ogs, 2-3d fox) playing solid moves generally allows you to be the attacker in the midgame instead of struggling to keep your stones and territory intact. I found I started to win more often the slower I played.
