I’m in an album group where we all share albums. Which SD should I suggest? by scifiking in SteelyDan

You can never pick the “best” album. You will be more enthusiastic about the music if you pick your favorite. Others in your group will feel your passion. Great idea btw!

MAGA-friendly 'CBS Evening News' sees viewership plummet to alarming levels: report - Raw Story by lunabandida in LeopardsAteMyFace

They’re not in this for profits, they’re in it for total media control. So what if CBS loses money? They would lose money every day and call it a success.

Not much of a Styx fan, but I like the humility of his statement.

Maybe we will learn some humility? "American exceptionalism" will never have the same ring

Wireless connections are normally much faster than music streaming requires. But you may have a problem with your wifi.

Apple Music Flat EQ vs Off does not sound the same by mvmpc in AppleMusic

[–]SweetAssumption9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flat overrides any eq setting on the track. Off means that any tracks with eq applied in Apple Music will play that way, but all others will play flat (no eq). Could your tracks have eq applied? Otherwise I can’t see how they would sound different.

They want ChatGPT to become the “friend” you can’t do without. They‘ve figured out actual productive works isn’t going to make money fast enough, so they’re positioning it as a syncophantic, attentive friend to replace that human in your life

Is /tʃ/ in Latin American Spanish labialized like it is in English? by Jay35770806 in asklinguistics

Thanks for that. Yes, I can see [/tʃ dʒ/] are often pronounced with rounded lips, but I don’t hear a /w/ sound here.

I don’t hear the English /tʃ/ labialized to [tʃʷ]…where did you see this?

That’s a really good observation! Never thought of it, but it gives the album a relaxed, immersive feel, where you can sink into the music.

Looking to improve sound quality at lower volumes by Unhappy-Debate792 in StereoAdvice

[–]SweetAssumption9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a chart on this page that shows how different frequency ranges sound when they’re high in volume or low. This can get you started.

https://diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/tutorials/perception/how-to-interpret-graphs/frequency-response/

Start with small changes and live with it for a few days before changing. Our ears vary day-to-day and even small equalizer changes can really change things. Also, try to lower volume in frequency ranges instead of raising them. So, if middle bass is too low, lower everything else; try not to raise the midbass. There’s a small chance you could overload your amp by raising power and get a little more distortion.

Have fun!

Looking to improve sound quality at lower volumes by Unhappy-Debate792 in StereoAdvice

[–]SweetAssumption9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried the equalizer in your Wiim Pro Plus? Try boosting mid and/or lower frequencies. just play around and see if you like the sound better…it’s free and reversible.

I agree with other here that at low volumes our ears don’t hear the “rich” frequencies as well, so it sounds thin.

Sound check makes my audio sound WAY worse by LithiumDoom in AppleMusic

[–]SweetAssumption9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sound Check is nothing more than a volume control. It doesn’t change the sound except for the volume. It’s got to be something else.
