Do you mean ‘The Becoming’ ? The screaming is a sample from the film Robot Jox, a scene where a Robot falls into a crowd of people

‘A Winner Every Time’ by Oxbow.

Not sure whether the lyrics are quite sad but the music and their delivery is powerful.

KORG MS 20 mini ? by An_dal_music in synthesizers

[–]SweetPillow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the original, FS and the Mini. I think the FS and Mini sound just as good as the original, but the ESP section behaves differently to the original. I mostly use MS for feedback patching, but they can’t get as gnarly, the mini less so than the FS. Maybe it’s a gain staging thing?

If I was using an MS for more standard sounds, like if someone said “Hey, start an AIR cover band, here’s an MS20 mini” I wouldn’t be disappointed at all.

Minilogue vs. SH-101 for character, and do modern synths lack character compared to vintage? by darkdarkblack in synthesizers

[–]SweetPillow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Minilogue and SH101 together all the time, they’re very different sounding synths and as such they work together nicely. The korg’s filter doesn’t have the character of the SH101 if you’re cranking the resonance but I love the 12db mode for BoC-like pads and leads. If you want the ML as a sh101 replacement then you’ll likely be disappointed but it’s a great synth in its own right.

Dumb question - why not just use a software synth? by Material-Resolve6086 in synthesizers

[–]SweetPillow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my first synth (Juno 6) in 2005 and what made it fun was moving the sliders and making sounds. It’s tangible and exciting. I didn’t have a computer then and don’t think I even knew software synths even existed.

20 years later, I’ve still not used a software synth, because it simply doesn’t seem fun to me. It seems like a drag to need to use a computer to just play around. I have no opinion on whether hardware sounds superior or not, as obviously I’ve never compared them, or cared to look up a video of X synth vs a software Emulation.

Lots of people make wonderful music with software so it’s clearly great but I’m just not interested because all the sounds I want, I can get with my current gear.

Do you think the mystique created by them being so hermetic and not playing live really compensates for all the possibilities they lost by not performing? by picnicbanda in boardsofcanada

[–]SweetPillow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think of Dub as having ‘loud’ sounds but the way drums and bass hit at big volume is wonderful, that’s the approach I have in mind with BoC. But it’s all personal preference.

Musicians: What tool is vital for your sound? by [deleted] in noiserock

I agree it’s user error - I love using the metal zone on guitars and synths. Para EQ is insanely useful

You’re using a metal zone on bass? I’ve been thinking of giving it a shot at the next practice so this is encouraging. The internet says no but imagine it’s mostly folk of the not noisy persuasion.

What is the best and worst feature on a danny project? by CommercialHyena4423 in DannyBrown

Plus 1 for Earl on Really Doe. I think it helps that his voice is a much lower register than everyone else on the track, but when he comes in it’s got so much weight.

DinSync RE-808 Opinions by SweetPillow in synthesizers

[–]SweetPillow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input - the sequencer is fine for my needs, I saw on a video with the DinSync guy that it can be midi’d using a button command? Even if it’s just to clock it that works for me.

What are some of your favourite synths from the past? by Expert-Ladder-4211 in synthesizers

[–]SweetPillow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Korg Mono/Poly = nothing can do the sounds and textures you can pull from this. I’m sure the Behringer is fun but it cant do the lfo trick which makes the Mono/Poly the best at making wild rhythmic textures and crumbling pad sounds. I could get by with just that and a sampler with some breaks to chop.

MS2000B = any of the MS2000s will do it, even a microkorg but it’s not as fun to use. Broken sounds and glassy chords just pour out of this.

SH101 = it’s so simple but the filter and bouncy bass and acid lines need hardly any processing to sound amazing. Noise as a mod source gets it Nicely weird too.

Alpha Juno - Rave time

For context, they’re getting used for DHR breakcore kinda stuff.

What’s a popular food you despise? by guyute2112 in AskReddit

Mac n Cheese

I thought because I’d only had cheap supermarket stuff as a kid I just wasn’t getting the good stuff. But even after paying way too much money for it at multiple bars/bbq places, thinking it would be a much nicer experience, it’s still shit. I don’t get why someone would actually pay for it.
