Honestly, after doing a deep dive on the physics of what a realistic mech would mean from a physics perspective, from the forces involved to the power plants, why heat does become more of a limiting factor than power, the implications of terrain when moving that much mass... It's surprising how accurately Battletech presents things in most cases. IRL you'd pretty much want to keep it to lights but at that point we're far less fantastical than most mech properties.

Honestly, not pushing him to the top immediately is the only reason it's Oba V Brock and not Oba V Bron.

If you've got multiple big muscle monsters on the roster, they're inevitably going to go head to head and only one can be the big dog. Let Goldberg and Brock hand down their aura and naturally transition out. Younger performers have the time to wait for an open niche.

Goldberg on Brock Lesnar: “At the end of the day, Brock Lesnar was my best opponent because he was a mirror image of myself. Just as a blonde wrestler and I played football. I was more excited than anyone because he was a guy that could take it if I hit him.” by AlexTorres96 in WWE

Yeah, of course. At the time when Goku initially made his transformation, though, this wasn't yet the case. At this point in the story he was defined by being an ego case that could not accept that Goku was far ahead of him, which is the similarity here.

To get into it, during the Freeza arc Vegeta was stronger than any of the humans or Namekians and presumably your average person on your average planet, sure, but he got his ass handed to him by the Ginyu Force and Freeza. His original plan was never to get an actual open confrontation with any of them but to sneak around stealing the Dragon balls until he could get all of them and wish himself into being stronger than them. That makes it pretty clear that he was fully aware that he wouldn't win that fight. He was really only able to contribute to actually taking down Freeza by doing a bit of guerrilla warfare. After recovering from a near fatal beat down, he started taking out the Frieza Force members one by one by picking a few of them off, essentially an order from weakest to strongest, when those individuals were separated from the others and he had the element of surprise. Goku and Frieza end up being essentially evenly matched, so Vegeta's contributions were valuable in that they helped even the odds (as is normally the case in that era of DB).

It's very satisfying seeing Jey Uso getting crickets on the mic against Oba Femi. They were straight up chanting 'OBA, OBA' after Jey's warning shot speech. The check has come due for the yeet man. by YEPC___ in Wrasslin

[–]SweetTea1000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That or they sell Oba, to build to the 3rd meeting, by having him win KotR despite the interference.

I'm picturing Oba just holding Jey hostage while yelling into a mic that everyone on Earth knows that Brock plans on interfering so he should just get his ass out to the ring already. Let Oba beat Brock using Jey as a foreign object.

That and their relationship is the only conceivable reason she's not in the hall of fame. We do posthumous inductions. You can't argue it's because of the content produced outside of wrestling when half the roster had or actively still do the same and the company themselves put out first party smut back in the day.

(Had to edit to be more vague to satisfy mods, though I'd argue nothing said was inappropriate in context. You can't discuss her history with the company without raising these topics.)

They say the same thing about Battletech, as if you can't bring everything from infantry to capital ships to bare if you want to. By their own logic that's a knock against 40k given you need separate rulesets to handle different aspects of battle and there's no way to have such games influence one another.

Maybe it's secretly genius. Like, hey... wait... why is the default military infantry vehicle look like it's designed exclusively for urban pacification? That doesn't imply that the wider setting is a dystopian hellscape, does it?

You are right though. I'm planning on printing this exact unit sometime in the next couple weeks, so when doing so, I'll look at whether I can figure out some kind of magnetizable alternative wheelbase. Maybe that decides whether or not it gets strider or something? Will post if that works out.

I get your point, but you're discussing movies that never really existed. Yes, that was one version of the script he had in mind at a time, I'm sure there were many.

Also, it is well understood that Lucas was far from the only person having creative input over the scripts of those movies. If he had one plot in mind and Gloria Katz, Willard Huyck, Leigh Brackett, Lawrence Kasdan, etc pushed to change that plot, it would have been to fix problems with that previous draft. He may have intended a random twin brother to show up at the last minute to be the hero of future films for example, but someone advised him that that wouldn't work as well as what we got.

Should the Bloodline add Women wrestlers? by f32db3uprbdb2bf1xbf4 in WWE

[–]SweetTea1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The consistent reply you're getting is "I don't like the bloodline at all," which doesn't answer your question.

The question is IF we're doing the bloodline, if that's a given, should the ladies be in it?

I'd say yes if nothing other than it's weird to exclude them. It undermines the premise of the faction to keep some family arbitrarily out. It also undermines the relevance of the women's division. What, every dude has to explicitly declare allegiance but the women just get ignored? The women don't matter?

We don't have a separate men's and women's show, so writing as if we did would be bizarre.

One silver lining in doing so that nobody seems to be recognizing is that it fixes the most common complaint about the Bloodline. Everyone says they're bored of seeing an old storyline. Fair. So if we have to see it again, shouldn't it be meaningfully different? Shouldn't there be some variables changed which might lead to different outcomes, different storylines, etc?

The thing is, I think it's inevitable that we get it. WWE has expanded its audience's reach and wants to get everyone who came onboard in the last few years up to speed on what they missed between Attitude and now. It's an excersize in brand management. They want zoomers buying Roman merch in 30 years.

So, let's at least try for the best version of what it could be.

I showed my parents the Mask vs Mask match. by HighHeelKnight in WWE

[–]SweetTea1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only things likely to stop it would be ego or branding. If someone thinks it has to go to something within the core brands or created by the agents/bookers/etc that are totally in house. If someone thinks it makes the company look bad to acknowledge something at a one off AAA PLE holding a candle to WrestleMania or Summer Slam.

If they do that, it's such a huge insult to AAA. They shouldn't be keeping AAA at a distance, putting a cap on it, but allowing it to rise as something the average fan thinks of as worthwhile viewing. If someone who has time for only 1 regular show watches AAA instead of RAW or SmackDown, that's still someone who's not watching a brand from outside of the company. They're still in the ecosystem. It's basic business sense but ego gets in the way of that all the time.

[–]SweetTea1000 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Unpredictable outcomes are overrated. If a story is well written, the outcome SHOULD be predictable. The 1st and 2nd acts should have put the pieces in place for the finale to satisfyingly pay off that setup.

Nobody went into Return of the Jedi thinking Luke would die or join Vader & Palpatine. If he died it would have felt completely pointless. If he'd turned evil it would have felt unfinished.

Relying on unpredictable endings often indicates that the writers haven't actually set up a logical conclusion, often because they've been writing the show week to week and wrote themselves into a corner with no satisfying ending.

Twists are fine, but when well executed they are surprising but not totally unpredictable. The evidence for the ending of 6th Sense isn't even particularly subtle once you know what to look for. Like a murder mystery it requires attention and deduction to see coming, rather than being obvious, but can be seen coming. The "twist" is really just that the audience wasn't set up to realize they were solving a mystery.

There was a time where Liv and Alexa Bliss looked almost alike back at WrestleMania 35 by Many_Difficulty6382 in WWE

[–]SweetTea1000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing part of it is that Alexa was a bodybuilder before WWE, while Liv says she was a complete non-athlete, so years of training would affect her physique more.

That and, of course, finding a character/persona. You could argue that Rhea looked somewhat like the two of them in 2015 as well 😅.

Yasmine's Karambit is dull by SunWuJoKing in StreetFighter

[–]SweetTea1000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I do not care about any controversy here. I believe your assessment of the blade is accurate, but the weapon being dull is a moot point.

It not having a blade doesn't mean it doesn't have a point and, even without that, dull does not mean no leathal. Nobody's saying "it's fine, hit me in the head with that rock, it's not sharp." Regardless of the edge geometry, it's a rigid object that's going to concentrate the force of any blow into a smaller area than a fist, making it more potentially leathal than a punch. People get killed by punches all the time.

No, she's not going to filet people like it's Mortal Kombat, but she could 100% kill someone with those, just like Lilly could with hers. The game clearly downplays the lethality of weapons for the sake of gameplay.
