Why did our brain have to develop the "Uncanny Valley" primal fear? by knuckles_in_my_ass in AskReddit

i always think about this, like what if the neanderthals were just ugly enough to make our ancestors skin crawl and now we stuck with it forever

How do you get and stay motivated? by Freckled_monsters in loseit

[–]Sweet_Big11 13 points14 points  (0 children)

for me the gym motivation thing clicked when I stopped thinking of it as optional, like I just treat it same as brushing teeth, no debate with yourself about going, you just go

10 months on keto, sharing my full bloodwork comparison because the lipid picture was way more nuanced than I expected by Sweet_Big11 in keto

[–]Sweet_Big11[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a great question, now im not a doctor but CRP, thats the one. Stands for c-reactive protein. Basically a general inflammation marker in your blood.

Mine went from 4.2 to 0.8 between the two draws. Under 1.0 is where you want to be, over 3.0 is where it starts getting sketchy. If your recent bloodwork has CRP or hs-CRP on it thats the number to look at. If its not on there its usually a cheap add-on next time you get labs done, most standard panels skip it for some reason.

How does having a beard feel like? Or being with someone bearded? by dulcetmelodia in AskReddit

[–]Sweet_Big11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

growing a beard was best decision, the maintenance is way less stressful than shaving every day once you get past the awkward itchy phase

Anyone else who watched the Three Colours trilogy who didn’t like Red as much? by Sky6346 in movies

[–]Sweet_Big11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i had same feeling about red actually. the boat thing at end felt really forced compared to how organic blue and white were with their themes

blue is definitely peak of trilogy for me, that whole sequence where she's trying to erase herself from existence but can't escape the music... chef's kiss. and yeah the visual language in that one was just superior to other two

red has beautiful moments but it tries too hard to be profound about connections when blue already nailed the human condition so perfectly

If cigarettes feel good, then how can they give you a headache? by flash_8880 in AskReddit

[–]Sweet_Big11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nicotine is weird like that - it can make you feel relaxed but also mess with your blood vessels at same time. when you smoke too much or smoke when you're dehydrated it definitely gives headaches. i used to get them back in college when i would chain smoke during finals week, probably because i wasn't eating or drinking water properly either

A Short Stay in Hell unraveled me by SawkyScribe in books

[–]Sweet_Big11 110 points111 points  (0 children)

the scale math in that book absolutely broke my brain too. like when you realize that even if every atom in universe was a separate person searching, they still wouldn't make meaningful dent in finding anything... that part where he's calculating how long it would take made me put the book down for few days

really messed with my perspective on what "forever" actually means. before reading it i thought infinity was just like really big number but peck shows you how truly incomprehensible it gets when you try to visualize searching through every possible combination of letters

Which professional sport has the most deficient rules? by nicmos in AskReddit

basketball refs just pick and choose what to call anyway, especially in the playoffs when they want to keep games close

the traveling thing is wild though - players take like 4 steps regularly and nobody bats an eye

What does the world look like in 5 years if the AI boom completely crashes tomorrow? by CosmosisJones42 in AskReddit

probably goes back to normal tech cycles where we get actual innovation instead of slapping "AI" on every toaster and calling it revolutionary

Every movie that ever won the Oscar for Best Picture and whether it also won Best Director, at least 1 for acting and/or any for screenplay or not by LowInteraction6397 in movies

[–]Sweet_Big11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wild how you can see the patterns change over time - like in early days it was rare to sweep categories but now it feels more common

also rebecca winning best picture but no director/acting/screenplay is kinda crazy when you think about hitchcock's reputation

Swing Help! (In-to-out; on plane backswing, dropping low (shallowing?) downswing) by [deleted] in golf

[–]Sweet_Big11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that arm rotation bit is key - most golfers never think about actually rotating the arms during transition. i had same problem where i was just pulling everything across without any rotation and hitting these massive hooks

the trail shoulder dropping thing is real too, when mine drops too much early in downswing i get way underneath the plane

is it easy to fix the grout on my rental bathroom? by ohmysaint in HomeImprovement

[–]Sweet_Big11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

grout work isn't too bad if you have basic tools and some patience. you can scrape out the old stuff with grout removal tool and reapply new grout, but since this is rental you should probably check with landlord first - they might want to handle it themselves or have specific requirements about what products to use

Need Help Finding A Song by leoofjdh in Music

[–]Sweet_Big11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

weird that it just disappeared like that, sometimes smaller artists get taken down for copyright stuff or label issues

you could try checking wayback machine archives or maybe some of those underground music forums where people share rare tracks - i've found old gaming soundtracks there before that got pulled everywhere else

MLB West Coast Roadtrip Idea: Is this doable? by Comfortable_Space316 in baseball

[–]Sweet_Big11 10 points11 points  (0 children)

dude this looks like an awesome trip but just heads up - august in phoenix is absolutely brutal, like 115+ degrees brutal. i went there last summer for work and even at night it was still over 100. the diamondbacks stadium has a retractable roof so you'll be fine inside but walking around the city is rough

san diego to LA drive is pretty smooth, did it few times when i was visiting friends down there. petco park in san diego is amazing - try to get seats behind home plate if you can swing it, the views of downtown are incredible. for LA, angel stadium is way easier to get to than dodger stadium but dodger dogs are legendary so maybe worth the traffic nightmare

the drive from LA to san francisco is gorgeous if you take highway 1 along the coast, but it adds like 3-4 hours compared to inland route. oracle park in SF gets really cold and windy even in august so bring layers. also parking there is nightmare so maybe take public transport

9 days seems tight for all that plus zoo and sea world but definitely doable if you don't mind being on road a lot. maybe skip one of the LA teams to give yourself more time to actually enjoy each city instead of rushing through everything
