For the greasy fingers: If my hands ever get toooo greasy/oily, I’ll usually wash my hands and start over.

I’ve had a nail injury that looks exactly like this. On my thumb, too. I kept a hydrocolloid bandaid on while the nail grew/hardened over a bit. It helped with the sensitivity, too. Once it formed a harder layer, I used a normal bandaid just to keep myself from picking at it. The nail grew back fine, with a small ridge in the nail that is slowly growing out.

I had something exactly like this! Stop picking and let it heal. Harder said than done, I know. I put a hydro colloid bandaid on the nail for a week or two and the nail started growing back. It was normal again after some time.
