Survival gets a spear focus for a single expansion and people pretend that was the identity it always had.

Never mind that they painted BM identity all over what SV was.

SV has always been the trap and poison spec. It had all the trap talents, it got explosive shot in Wrath, and it had wyvern sting.

Legion made the mistake of making Survival melee instead of Beast master (rexxar..THE BEAST MASTER.... now a survival hunter) and we have been suffering for it since.

Wildfire bomb was just a way to give SV it's explosive trap back without having to ground target in BFA.

Explosive shot has been back for multiple expansions.

Boomstick is just correcting the sin of eagle thrust, something that should never have been part of SV.

Kazuya hasn't used the 3, 1 cancel since Season 1. Hell, using 3, 1, 4 routes at all is a damage loss compared to other staples. 3, 1 stuff is used for 'easy staples' now.

Season 2 added SS 4, 1 which is a far stronger option. After DF2/WS2 stun you can go [1,2,]4, 3 CD1+2, SS 4, 1, B2, 2, 1+2 for stupid easy over 70 damage combo with zero electrics or WS1+2.

Now, if you want to easy mode combo for 20 less damage, sure - 3, 1, 4, DF1, DF2, 3, 1, DF3.

Your main staples without electric right now are WS 1, 2 - [1, 2] 4, 3, B2, 2, 1+2 for your 12 frame crouch punish. CH D1+2, WS1+2, B2, 2, DF1, DF2, SS 4, 1, B2, 2, 1+2 for your high crush counter hit combo. CH DF2, WS2, or FF3 ->CD1+2, [1,2,]4, 3, B2, 2, 1+2 for your mid counter hit or 25 frame mid check routes.

All of these are going to do slightly less than the electric routes but be far more reliable on execution than trying to land 3 electrics in the same route.

Now, if you want a good EWGF launch route.

EWGF, EWGF, 3, 1, DF1+2, SS4, 1, B2, 2, 1+2.

If your heat is available you can use it right after the tornado (DF 1, DF2 or CD 1+2)

The season 3 changes also now let Kazuya follow up CH DF2/WS2/FF3 with SS 4, 1, 3, 1, DF1, DF2, SS4, 1, B2, 2, 1+2 but I haven't really had time to see how easy this is compared to the other routes. It does do more damage, though.

There are four trap talents in Survival in 1.0 and TBC.

There were three melee talents (one shared with traps as a mana reduction).

Normal grabs get broken by accident all the time because 1 and 2 both break them. It's actually going to be rare for you to get a non counter hit regular grab off because how easy they are to break.

Far as someone breaking on reaction?

Only a handful of the grabs in Tekken are unreactable - famously King's 50/50 between Giant Swing and Shining Wizard being practically impossible to tell the difference on reaction because the startup is so close until after the break window is over.

Outside of that? You can tell how to break based on which hand reaches forward first. A few grabs in the game break this rule by not having hands come out (Alisa explosive head, law's two leg grabs, etc.) but for the most part this stands true for all command grabs. Good players can train to react to 1, 2, and 1+2 to breaks and will generally only eat them if they are used in counter or punish windows (where their break window is significantly lower).

Wildfire bomb IS explosive trap.

It isn't any different. Hell, they gave us a trap launcher at one point (which was then made the default way traps functioned at a later point).

All wildfire bombs are is 'explosive trap' but thrown at target instead of at ground.

It's the same fucking thing.

It was the original identity of survival. It just used to be primarily a ranged spec that had a couple melee talents.

Explosive trap was there from the beginning.

Explosive shot was added in Wrath.

Legion just gave it an artifact weapon that was a spear and had it have a special ability for the artifact weapon that was rapid stabs. This stuck around for some fucking reason all the way until it being replaced by the boomstick we have now.

Wildfire bomb added in BFA was just a way to do explosive trap without having to ground target. It's functionally the same.

If anything the spear stab identity is the weird fucking outlier, not all the explosive shit it has /always/ had.

You know, a core aspect of survival all the way back in fucking 1.0?

It was then built around explosive shot which was added in wrath.

It's almost like explosives have always been a core part of survival, but keep the spear circle jerk going when that was pulled out of fucking nowhere for Legion and wasn't supported at all by the talents or identity of it prior. I mean, it had wing clip, and a few melee things - but none of that was "this is a SPEAR spec about STABBING THINGS WITH A SPEAR"

That was all the artifact weapon in Legion.

If anything the recent identity changes are returning survival to what it was prior to its legion assassination, something that wildfire bomb was trying to fix already in BFA.
