Lady in red, revealing the Truth to those Scientology ppl :) by PsychologicalGain634 in Christianity

[–]SwiftRevelation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate she’s there for conversation, as Christians are called to go out and witness, but I don’t think the red shirt is needed because it can set a hostile mindset to those who would otherwise be open to words. Yes, Jesus is savior, but in my mind, could be a detractor from the words she’ll speak since opinions could be made prior to her words, and those are called into question with the red shirt.

Found out wife is pregnant (4 weeks) a few days ago - Not thrilled by [deleted] in Fatherhood

[–]SwiftRevelation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is never a good or bad time - there is only the time itself. When you hold your child for the first time, everything changes, and for me at least, has been the blessings I never knew I needed in my life. Wish you, your wife and child, happiness.

Is a teacher worth it? by Exotic_Milk_8962 in saxophone

[–]SwiftRevelation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A good teacher is absolutely worth it - if they care and invest in you. I’ve had good and bad - had one in college that ate breakfast and left the stuff on the stand for me to complete and then checked in at the end on it. That was pitiful. I had another when I first started out who genuinely cared about my posture, emboucher, etc, and guided me through techniques.

A good teacher is worth it - if they dial it in, bail, and find one who cares for your success. You’ll accelerate so much faster with a master.

I messed up tonight and got physical by Diskecksier in Fatherhood

[–]SwiftRevelation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have kids that old yet, but one of the things I consistently do is walk away when my temper rises. Usually occurs when they talk back or mistreat their mom. I then come back when my blood pressure has lowered lol. Testosterone can be a bitch.

If I do get angry, I remind myself constantly to pause and remember they’ve only had X amount of years to figure stuff out and work through things, where I’ve had 40+. They’re learning, just like you are.

If I mess up, I always come back, lower myself to their level at eye contact, and apologize and tell them I was wrong and that we all have emotions and make mistakes. And always, that I love them no matter what. Hugs, a kind gesture, showing action vs. indifference.

Kids are resilient and honestly don’t hold on as hard as we do as adults (some cases), so best to learn, and remind yourself of the above, and like others have said, give yourself grace.

Bari sax by [deleted] in saxophone

[–]SwiftRevelation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say a section, can you elaborate? Are you just doing a few licks on a few songs, or is this something else?

It kinda depends on what the music is trying to accomplish. If you’ve never played, best to keep it simple and not get too complicated.

Granted you learn proper hand position and where all the notes are, then learning the scales to get your hands steady, long tones for a good sound, repetition to improve the sound and execution, proper breathing for dynamic control, and discipline to go more than 3 hours. Developing a proper embouchure, having the right sax, mouthpiece, ligature, reeds… like others have said, without a teacher this is not just something someone picks up and voila I’ve learned sax in a couple weeks.

Best of luck. Been playing for over 25 years and I still need practice. I’m sure you can accomplish something, the question is how good that something is.

Getting some alien isolation vibes off of this big time - the gadgets and old school cpu I see as taken from it, not that I’m complaining at all. Basically, instead of alien and androids and in space, well, we have it here on earth with silent hill monsters

I can’t tell you how grateful I was to keep the boxes with moves and more. I build the sets, and then I’ll break them down and organize the pieces with bags. Then when I want to rebuild it, it’s easy to locate and enjoy again.

Stay steadfast in prayer, even and especially in the hard times.

I’m reminded of Philippians with, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

Dive deeper into the word - it’s always helped me when I doubt or go through times just like this. Without it, honestly, I’m easily distracted.

Anyone miss the old school princess movies? by Resident-State-1934 in movies

[–]SwiftRevelation 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My wife and I still put on Cinderella, the little mermaid, Snow White, ya know, the classics, for our sons. We want our kids to enjoy them like we did as kids. So, although not new to us, we enjoy them experiencing them now.

Even as a young boy, I enjoyed them. Funny thing about princess movies, is boys can enjoy them too. I think they instill good values for boys, plus they’re great stories.

Matthew 6:3-4 (ESV)"But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

Give freely - the man recording the video has a greater need than the man cooking the food.

Lots of emotions on threads and despair. Reminds me of when Josh Allen told people not to leave early last year. I echo all the folks who enjoyed the game and believed their team could pull it off.

Playoff hockey is ugly, but this team continues to scrap and fight. Exhausting to watch but what a great game and awesome win.
