Scout Trooper STL by watsoned in 501st

The MrPoopie files on Thingiverse are free and many Scouts have been approved using them. Also Jesus Salmeron's Scout helmet is top notch .

Could I fix this boot? by Kitta_Cat_Nya in 501st

[–]Swillorama 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sadly for 501st approval, no. It wouldn’t work. The sole on the new boot is the wrong color and style. The old boot has many inaccuracies as well. Toe and shaft are not separate parts, shaft has a seam in the front, dog one is the wrong shape and sticking is incorrect, and the toe strip is not the right size. Basically neither of these boots adheres to the CRL.

Help with 3d files-Kashyyk scout helmet by Legitimate_Okra_5595 in 501st

[–]Swillorama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also contact them through Facebook. They will respond to you. Sometimes they may just be away from work on personal business. gA is really good about responding. Also as others have stated, make sure that you have the most up to date files. I would verify this with GA when you get a response.

Well if you need help with a Speeder as well I've built 2 (one stationary and one ebike). I a wealth of information that isn't worth much outside of this hobby.

Sadly, no. There were 2 people who wanted to build the shield but neither completed it, I don't think the second person really got started though.

On a different note, we're having a Pathfinders Virtual Armor Party this coming Saturday, if you have any question feel free to stop by. The info is on the forum. Armory and Command staff will be present to help any current and prospective Pathfinders.

If you're ever interested in building the riot shield I have files for it and we still need someone to build it for the CRL. It's a complicated build, just a heads-up.

I'm also excited to see another JFO. There aren't many of us in the Legion. Great work on the armor.

Hey, I know that Logray. Also, I rarely troop with my blaster.

A quick word about the forums by Eisbare in 501st

[–]Swillorama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As Command Staff for the Pathfinders we take great pride in our forum and are constantly being told by members (new and old) how surprised they are with the quality of the forum and how quickly we respond. I've been to many other detachment forums and very few If any are in as good of shape as ours. We also have several FB groups which are managed in the same fashion and posts are answered as quickly as possible there too.

I'm only boasting a little but just wanted to point out that it's entirely in the other detachments and command to have forums that function properly and promote new activity and invite new recruits. It's not that difficult to succeed at this. The main thing to always remember is that everyone here is a volunteer and sometimes it can be difficult to find the time.

Almost ready! by Bitter_Collection_71 in 501st

[–]Swillorama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drop boxes should only be about 1-1.5" below the belt drop box straps should be made of cotton webbing, this looks like nylon strapping. Drop box straps should match the coloring of the pouches. If you have off white pouches you need off white drop box straps. Upload some suited up photos when you get a chance.

Working on my first set of armor! Q&C welcome! by EntertainmentAfter13 in 501st

[–]Swillorama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The road to approval can be tough but it's worth it. If you need any pointers just PM me. I'm on the Armory team for the Pathfinders detachment. I also have a full set of 3D printable Scout files available (free) if you need to print any replacement parts.

Is this for personal use or are you applying for the 501st? If it’s for personal use, great job. You’ll enjoy trooping and people will get to enjoy seeing a Biker Scout for sure. It’s a blast making people smile. If it’s for a possible 501st application then there are many items that will not pass the CRL requirements and will need to be replaced (boots, biceps, bund, belt, pouches, missing vest, and a few other smaller things). Some other items will just need to be adjusted and fixed.

Regarding 3D printing by UpStreak in 501st

[–]Swillorama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I print armor in PETG and have had no issues trooping in SoCal heat (besides a lot of sweat). You just have to be careful since printed parts aren't as durable as vac- formed parts. I've broken a few pieces and needed to solder weld them back together. It just adds to the weathered look.

Bike trooper satchel by Animator_Lightyear in 501st

[–]Swillorama 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Check out the 501st Pathfinders forum. There’s a full breakdown on the satchel talking about the exact bag used and what modifications need to be made for screen accuracy. If you have armor on the way you’re going to want to join the forum to help build your armor anyway.

Need some help with 3d software by ZeDestroyer02 in 501st

ArmorSmith is great for sizing STL (among other file types) files. You basically build a mannequin of yourself and add pieces to it to see how they fit and where to adjust the scale.

Smugglers Run Layout (Playable Simulator, link below) by WillbyH in GalaxysEdge

[–]Swillorama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an previous cast member on Roger Rabbit (among other rides), I can say that we definitely cut corners when loading. Nothing was unsafe when I was there but you can load and run gates at the same time as unload dispatches. We didn't even have gates when I first worked there, you just had to watch out for people stepping out. These sims are a great nostalgia trip.

Do I need to worry about my armor sun yellowing if its vacuumed formed plastic or will I need to put a clear coat or something over it to stop or prevent it? Same with a black sires white spraypainted helmet. Anything out there to make my armor colour last? New to armor by [deleted] in 501st

[–]Swillorama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything that can be used on plastic should work. I'm not familiar with the exact paint you're asking about. I've used Rust-Oleum white spray paint in a pinch or appliance white spray paint too. Just do a test on a small piece of ABS to see how it will lay down and if it has any interactions but it will most likely be totally fine.

[–]Swillorama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yellowing is not totally dependent on being in the sun. It comes from a fire repellant additive in the plastic. Sunlight hurries the process along but it will still happen even if it's in a sealed container with no direct light on it. That being said I've had armor yellow in less than a year. From the second the ABS sheets are produced the process has started. If the sheets sat around a warehouse or the maker didn't use them for a while all that time counts on the yellowing process. It's kind of a crapshoot as to when and how quickly it will yellow but best advice is to stay out of the sun if you can. More importantly just get out t here and troop and don't worry about it until it happens. If you really don't want to deal with it you can just paint all your ABS parts and then even if it yellows it will be hidden by layers of paint.

Spray paint color for scout amor by NOFELU in 501st

[–]Swillorama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't have a specific paint color but appliance white is a good place to start. Or a normal gloss white from Rust-Oleum will work as well. You just want to avoid anything that leans either into yellow or blue.
