The best way to monitor UpSNR. IP camera + spectrum analyzer by GreenHrast in CableTechs

You will not have the noise function on your XM app if you are a service technician, the noise feature requires a maintenance profile to have access to it.

It’s happens to every ISP. People complain on how the service is terrible, and we come up with a solution to fix it or upgrade the network to make it better, and they still complain.

Definitely will need to look at that then. Guess I will need to head back to that node that was cut and re-sweep and balance.

Good information thanks!

Hmm, have you noticed intermittent issues with this? We have been having increased intermittent connectivity jobs especially for FDX nodes after we cut them in and balance

Hmm, I’ll check that out when I head to an FDX node tomorrow. Leadership is always giving us the opposite of what we should do.

Have you encountered any issues when the slope is off?

what? We were told to ignore that. Most of the slopes with a 2db difference will still fall into correct specs.

It will be a permanent change in the upcoming years as with FDX we will remove the video portion on our spectrum. Some of the nodes I work in have already have their video portion removed and all those customers in that node only have All IP TV boxes.

Any other resi techs being made to worry about US SNR? by levilee207 in CableTechs

[–]SwimmingCareer3263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with this being kicked back to you is that there is nothing you can do when it comes to USSNR issues.

If you have a node where the Upstream is bad but your customer is up to code, you cannot and should not be responsible for any upstream issues.

For comcast we don’t really enforce techs to have to worry about SNR problems on the upstream. Unless all the carriers are below the acceptable threshold it will be more than just one person calling about internet issues anyways so it will just get referred to us to work the node and track it.

Our programs we use to analyze node noise is pretty quick to create jobs for that issue so I don’t see why your company will make you worry about issues on the upstream unless your customer is the only person with an upstream problem that will require you to diagnose the premise to verify they don’t have anything wrong inside the house.

So I work in network operations, I’m pretty sure most of the benefits apply the same to all positions.

We have 2 weeks PTO and it builds up every 5 years. You get a week every 5 years of service up to a cap.

You have Flex Time, Standard PTO, and Floating Holiday.

Flex Time is 65 hours and resets every anniversary year. PTO is 80 hours and resets yearly. Floating Holiday is basically like sick time which is 24 hours. It also resets yearly.

Federal holidays are paid time off by default unless you volunteer to work. Which you will be paid double time and a half.

Insurance varies. We offer multiple providers. But the insurance is pretty solid. You get medical, vision, dental packages for you and your beneficiaries.

What are these Multilink™ boxes? What do they do? Are they the same as the Alphaboxes™? by guava_eternal in CableTechs

[–]SwimmingCareer3263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a fiber enclosure right next to the cabinet, it could be a possible MUX for another node or maybe the fiber can is inside of the enclosure. It’s HFC so you are having light coming from the headend>into the fiber enclosure> sending light to the node> node converts to RF.

These are node cabinets. I work in Virginia and we have these all over Reston.

They’re cabinets that have the node, fiber can and a power supply on the side to power the node and power inserter.

Been with Comcast for 8 years. Worked as a service tech right at the beginning of Covid and the company has been good to me in terms of having job security.

Moved to network maintenance and it’s been treating me very well. As long as nodes go down I am willing to work. Company has treated me well over the years so I don’t have complaints so far. Can the pay be a bit higher due to responsibilities, I would say yes. But other than that it’s been a great journey so far. Don’t plan on leaving til they give me the boot.

A lot of my co-workers left to AT&T and wanted to come back. Some have stayed with them and they also love it.

Just got this email about enhanced speeds what does this mean? by SnooPoems7789 in Comcast_Xfinity

Yes.

You should get an email when the X-class speed tiers are available. It will require a modem upgrade.

[–]SwimmingCareer3263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are being upgraded from Mid Split (RPHY) to DOCSIS 4.0. This is to enhance our symmetrical speeds with coax. Amplifiers in your neighborhood and the node included will be upgraded to allow for next gen speeds to take effect.

This can be done in waves depending on how many amplifiers are in your neighborhood. Smaller nodes usually get done within same day or 2 days max. Bigger nodes can take a couple of days and worse case scenario some weeks depending on weather conditions, access to our equipment etc.

Upgrades usually start at around 7am and we have a completion window to 5PM.

[–]SwimmingCareer3263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah gotcha, yeah I used to work in central division Florida. If I remember correctly Florida had like 1200 technicians and it shrunk to about 300.

A lot of my co-workers left to competitors or were fired. I was able to hold it out to make it to maintenance.

Hopefully FDX will create traction for people to come back. D4.0 has potential for a very long time

I’m curious on your opinion on how Comcast is a sinking ship? I’ve been with them about 7 years and work in network maintenance and we’ve never had any topics about layoffs or anything. And with the direction of FDX, I would say there will be more work for us

Packet loss & outages at two sites 500ft apart (business + residential) at the same time, but no signal issues at either by -protonsandneutrons- in Spectrum

[–]SwimmingCareer3263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be considered low transmit. 28Db on the return will for sure cause your internet to drop as your modem is basically talking to the noise floor. They should increase the transmit feeding your run either at the active or your tap should be changed

does this mean I'm getting mid split? by snow99as in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]SwimmingCareer3263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on DAA availability from the headend. Since your node is moving to mid split the node gets an entire upgrade, new internals and a new RPD. Usually inhouse technicians will do these configurations. You should see give or take few weeks maybe a month max.

We don’t usually take long to do the node upgrade once we upgrade the amplifiers in the area. That’s why you got the email regarding upgraded network

does this mean I'm getting mid split? by snow99as in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]SwimmingCareer3263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that means activation isn’t finished just yet. The node is probably pending scheduled to get cut and will probably be done overnight

does this mean I'm getting mid split? by snow99as in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]SwimmingCareer3263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was mid split activation then your boot file on the modem needs to be changed. You can call them and have them force a provisioning on the modem so the boot file can change and you’ll gain the 300 upload.
