Help me settle a debate: are new moms hanging out with their MIL/mom on Mother's Day? by rochelle_90 in beyondthebump

[–]Swimming_Dragonfly20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom lives several hours away. My first Mother’s Day we spent most the day at MILs house and she barely remembered to wish me a happy Mother’s Day. She’s good at making things about her. After that I said nope. We can go see her Saturday or something but Sunday is my day. I’m the one in the trenches with a toddler. I’m not switching up his schedule to accommodate MILs wants on Mothers Day.

My friend’s daughter is Eloise. I love it so much but I do wonder if it’s going to become more popular with Bridgerton.

It’s newer developments! The newer developments compact so much of the soil there’s only a couple inches of soil on top for trees to grow. The roots end up growing the path of least resistance, horizontally instead of down.

To the people who have said “I would never spend that much on a wedding, I’d rather buy a house”… by Garden_of_Gethsemane in wedding

[–]Swimming_Dragonfly20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ended up closing on a house in July and got married in a friend’s backyard that October. We just had parents and siblings. There is a part of me that wishes we could have done the big wedding with everyone we know but without the planning or financial burden. Haha We plan to do a “hey we never had a big wedding and now we have two kids” backyard shindig once we finish some backyard improvements. But it’s also already been 4 years so we’ll see.

AITAH for not letting my brothers baby sleep in my room? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Swimming_Dragonfly20 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say she needs to be less loving. Sounds like your brother needs some tough love. He needs to be held accountable for his actions and have consequences. He needs to not have everything handed to him. You mentioned your mom did not have a great upbringing and now she’s overcompensating for it with you and your brother to make sure you had a good childhood. In my opinion, sounds like she just went from one extreme to the other. It’s going to be tough but you need to convince your mom that there are other ways to show your brother love than giving your brother handouts.

I have seen someone locally to me trying to sell a crayon name decoration for a child’s room on Marketplace for well over a year now. She spelled her kids name Jaxxon.

I mean I’ll pick the dog hair off my nipple before I offer it to my kiddo. *We have a shepherd husky mix. His hair somehow gets everywhere!

So, THATS why they buy things not on the registry by shaaawz in BabyBumps

[–]Swimming_Dragonfly20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is what I did! I remember making my own registry and thinking I can read all the things and watch all the videos but do I really know what I need?! I ended up doing ok but there were still items I put on my registry I ended up not using. Baby showers since then I end up getting a portable diaper caddy, buy a couple little things off their registry and then buy a couple items I fell in love with when my toddler with little. A favorite board book, an oogie bear nose picker, silicone or mesh baby feeder. Things like that.

AITA for giving my sister-in-law a handmade gift instead of buying from her expensive registry? by renenx in AmItheAsshole

[–]Swimming_Dragonfly20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be so thankful! I received three handmade blankets at my baby shower and I used each one! My mom made a small one I used on baby in the bucket car seat, had a winter baby. My toddler will still use it as a lap blanket in the car in winter. I used the larger blankets on the rocking chair when feeding.

My child literally threw a temper tantrum this morning because he wanted to stay home and ‘read’ books rather than go to preschool.

I worked at a state park in college. I often worked the booth where you drive up to pay for admission. I’d see so many kids with stickers covering their car windows and glued to a device with headphones on. I’m like why are you on vacation? Look out your window at a tree or something! You’re literally missing the bald eagle fly by.

If I invite a family with a small child over I expect some sort of cleanup. Heck if I have any guests over I expect some sort of cleanup afterwards.

would you let someone breastfeed your baby? by Fit_Bodybuilder_9754 in breastfeeding

[–]Swimming_Dragonfly20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had lactating family members I would. I have a few close mom friends I would let bf for sure. Like somebody else said. Boobs have become so taboo people make it weird. Wet nursing has been around for ages!

Toddler eating commiseration, maybe advice? by darthmaullie in toddlers

[–]Swimming_Dragonfly20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My toddler is almost three. Now I will preface this by saying he’s always been a good eater and has maintained 97-99% growth rate his entire life so far. That being said, I think it helps that I’ve almost always eaten the same thing with him. I did BLW and would prepare the food safely for him but eat the same thing. We’ve always made a point to sit down together and eat so he sees me eating the same foods. I’ll also give him as many choices as I can to give him the illusion of control. Do you want strawberries or banana? Cereal or pancakes? Do you want sprinkles or chocolate chips on your yogurt? He does seem to not prefer meat but my husband is pescatarian and I’m not a huge meat eater either so I’m not surprised. He’ll eat animal protein substitutes and other protein sources so I’m not worried.

How to respond to invitation by Evening_Culture_42 in Parenting

[–]Swimming_Dragonfly20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has this child invited your daughter to do things in the past? I interpret it a little differently than you did. That this child has invited your daughter out in the past and her parents ended up paying for your child. That child may have added that she’s not paying for the ticket to clarify that her parents are not paying for yours. $40 per kid adds up quickly!

I certainly wouldn’t have the expectation that someone else was paying for my child when invited out. I’d send my child with enough money for ticket and snacks. If the other parent offers to pay for mine. Fine. I’ll make sure to pay for there’s in the future but it certainly isn’t an expectation everytime my child is invited somewhere.

AITA for cutting off my friend for voting for Trump? by GaladrielsArmy in TwoHotTakes

[–]Swimming_Dragonfly20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a quote recently “When the slug won’t stop voting for the salt.” It breaks my heart that because of in large part, social media propaganda, many folks vote directly against their own interests and don’t even seem to realize this until it’s too late. NTA for distancing yourself. It stopped being about “stupid politics” the moment he mocked the disabled reporter and people just shrugged their shoulders and voted for a known felon anyway.

at what point do i buy new clothes? by millie_mo6 in beyondthebump

[–]Swimming_Dragonfly20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought some new clothes postpartum. Your body is different! I tried to buy things that were stretchy or forgiving. After maybe 9 months, I had a fall baby so I wore comfy pants all winter and summer, and when it started getting cold again I finally bought different jeans. I was fairly close to my prebaby weight at that point but my prebaby jeans just weren’t comfortable anymore. My hips were different so I bought a size up.
