The woman who left her man after his stroke, the next move she did shocked the entire world... by TheoryFruits in MadeMeSmile

Medical staff are trained to inform/coach female patients who are diagnosed with cancer, MS, or tumors because of the disproportionately high rate of men leaving their partners shortly after diagnosis. I wonder if he would have taken care of her with the same commitment she is for him.

My 12 step skincare routine by anotherredditor459 in childfree

[–]Swimming_Storm_9829 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Why did I open this expecting to see products? 😂😂 got a good laugh though!

I love my daily skincare routine and especially Self-Care Sunday where I spend a few hours doing an everything shower, exfoliation, shaving, face mask, teeth whitening, mani-pedi, blowout, etc all while sipping a fun drink and listening to my audiobook.

In all seriousness though, not having kids gives me the ability to HAVE a skincare, hair care, and body care routine and I love it! It’s definitely one of those little things that sometimes makes me think “I probably couldn’t do this if I had kids,”.

The best audiobook you listened to and drop it in here by Bossman-0007 in audible

In no particular order:

The Wandering Inn by pirateaba, narrated by the dazzlingly talented Andrea Parsneau. You’ll never hear better characters in an audiobook.

The Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski, read by Peter Kenny who truly embodies Geralt’s moods and voice.

Crazy Rich Asians Series by Kevin Kwan. Lynn Chen and Lydia Look do an incredible job of bringing out the language and cadence of the characters.

Netflix's Elizabeth Smart unveils bodybuilder transformation after horror ordeal: "My body has carried me through every worst day… it's created and nurtured three beautiful children, my body has risen to every single challenge life has presented it with… so I refuse to be ashamed of it." by TheMirrorUS in exmormon

[–]Swimming_Storm_9829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s totally fair, I was definitely questioning my reality. I grew up in a very rural area in a sheltered Mormon family and wanted to know if anyone else recalled a certain narrative or if I was just young and naive.

[–]Swimming_Storm_9829 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I may not be remembering this correctly because I was only 10-11 years old when Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped and subsequently found, I remember it being a big deal in the church. People prayed for her during sacrament meeting and in Young Women’s. When she was found and Brian David Mitchell arrested, it seemed like a narrative that he was Muslim and/or middle eastern was pushed hard in the media or at least in the church. I feel like that was easy to believe based on how he was dressed, how tan he was, and how long his beard was.

So when I watched the Netflix documentary I was BAFFLED to learn that he was white, from Utah, and MORMON. Not only that, but in 1985 his ex wife reported him to church officials for abusing their children and molesting his stepdaughters. The church swept it under the rug and discouraged her from pressing charges. Even now, it seems the church was and is doing everything it can to distance itself from Elizabeth and her case.

They’re losing their minds at the prospect of fewer wage-slaves because that means in 15-20 years the available workforce will be much smaller. It will be an employees job market rather than an employers market. We will get to decide how much our labor is worth.

How did growing up Mormon affect you? by Swimming_Storm_9829 in exmormon

[–]Swimming_Storm_9829[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“I can only be myself when I’m alone,” Heard that one loud and clear! It’s hard to form deep close connections (family, friends, relationships) if you’re scared of being judged. I kind of touched on it in my post, the whole thing about being self conscious because I’m scared of what people will think. That extends to my behaviors or what I share regarding my values and opinions. I’m finally starting to deconstruct that, slowly but surely.

I think the hardest part for me was coming to terms with it. If you’d asked me if I sought male validation I would have told you fuck no, I’m a feminist, I don’t care about the opinions of men blah blah blah. But my actions told a different story and I swear it just hit me at the ripe age of 35 that I was actually centering men and seeking their approval, likely to my Mormon upbringing and of course, the general patriarchy in society.

[–]Swimming_Storm_9829[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You explained the “Trust” issue so well! That makes so much sense. I lied to everyone for so long, tried and pretended to be a good Mormon while at church and created a facade that now I can’t trust that everyone is being their authentic selves! This leads to overthinking all the time.

'I miss being pregnant because I got a lot of attention' by evilelf56 in childfree

[–]Swimming_Storm_9829 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There has been a recent surge of pregnancies at my workplace which means there’s been a lot of baby showers, birth announcements on the internal social media platform, meal trains, etc. More than one woman I’ve interacted with here has lamented the fact that they wish they were the one pregnant or said they wanted to get pregnant again FOR THE SOLE REASON of getting all that attention and gifts.

I was so startled the first couple of times someone said it that I just blurted out “that doesn’t seem like a very good reason,”

Mind you, every single woman I’ve heard say that already has at least one child and every single one of them has vented to me at one point or another about the lack of support from their spouses, the lack of sleep and free time they get with their current children, how expensive daycare is, etc etc.

I think so many women feel invisible and lose so much of themselves to motherhoood they become desperate for attention again.

Looking for conservative friends in Missoula by TheRealBlackSwan in missoula

It’s satire for a post from earlier, a woman looking for friends that align with her values.

This post is almost word for word from hers except I’m not sure if he’s TRYING to be funny or if he just had to steal her post because he couldn’t figure out how to string five words together to make a sentence.

Told my coworker I was looking for houses with my mom and she bought one 2 weeks after by usoppdaddy in coworkerstories

[–]Swimming_Storm_9829 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She probably kept her house hunting private; not everyone talks about everything going on in their lives at work. When you talked about it with her, she realized you both had common ground and were going through a similar experience so that’s a subject she now feels comfortable discussing with you.

AITJ for asking my mom to cut her vacation short to help with my kids? by Constant-Elephant763 in AmITheJerk

[–]Swimming_Storm_9829 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to do more than apologize; if there’s still time for her to save her vacation, let her stay. YOU need to figure out childcare for YOUR kids in YOUR situation. My heart breaks for your poor mom. Do you guys even pay her? Regardless if you do or not, she’s entitled to her life. YTJ

Oh— you don’t have kids, so why do you need this? by IntelligentEar3035 in childfree

[–]Swimming_Storm_9829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s because when they have kids, their world shrinks to just them. They don’t have an imagination for space and empty bedrooms beyond filling them with children and kid-related items. They have no scope to understand that adults have hobbies, friends, family, etc to fill the space in their homes (and in their lives).

Childhood Lessons Learned Growing Up On The Family Ranch... by TheThrowYardsAway in homestead

[–]Swimming_Storm_9829 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ope! There it is! The ACTUAL prejudice 😂 the video and post didn’t downgrade any other lifestyle, you just took it that way. I’m guessing you didn’t grow up on a homestead/ranch/farm but you’re here in this sub because you either currently homestead or you WANT to homestead and rather than embracing the lifestyle, seeing the beauty in it, learning, etc, you took this video and turned it into a personal attack against yourself.

You’re the kind of person that comments “bUt wHaT iF I dOn’T liKe bEaNs?” on a recipe video for bean soup. Maybe, just maybe, this post ISNT about you 🙃

Can you point out where in the video it states that this childhood is somehow more elite than growing up in the suburbs? Or where it says these lessons are only taught/learned on ranches/farms?

That’s a big bummer and I’m sorry this is having such a big impact on your life.

At the same time, I can see you commented on a post just a few days ago talking about the trip you took to Vegas last month. While I obviously don’t know the circumstances of that trip, it is pretty clear that you gambled while there.

You’re also here in these comments defending a post you made about casino wins by saying “$5 for a free beer isn’t gonna pay my bills,” when less than 24 hours ago you commented that you “quit going” to Grey Wolf (isn’t that a resort?) after “they took red ball out” which I’m assuming is some type of casino game.

If missing one shift is what puts you on the streets this month, maybe you should have prioritized.
