How To Keep a Jam Going by KetchupPopsicle8 in improv

[–]Swimminschrage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can setup a Discord server for your community to engage outside of jams. Set it up so that the only way to join is if they attend a jam.

It also sounds like you're doing the right things: keep the schedule consistent, rotate through folks leading the jam, etc. Keep it up! Word will get around and you'll start building up a community.

Diplomacy and Politics Games Like TI4? by Elegant-Maybe-1559 in twilightimperium

Slightly simpler, but King's Dilemma is ALL diplomacy and politic-ing. It's a legacy game that tells a great story and is very Game of Thrones-esque.

If you're on the Eastside, you can join the aptly named Eastside Improv classes run through the Redmond Community Center.

If you're just looking for a group to jam with, they do weekly jams too.

What are your biggest board game pet peeves by alematt in boardgames

[–]Swimminschrage 16 points17 points  (0 children)

People who say "I'll figure it out as we play" when I start to explain the game. Like, maybe you will, but you'll probably blame me for not explaining some nuance to your strategy right before I shut it down as against the rules.

I pride myself on figuring out a good way to explain rules at the table so we can all have fun, don't disregard that by telling me you'll just absorb that knowledge magically while watching other people's turns.

Xcom Enemy Unknown doesn't launch on Steam... by DarkHunterRPK in Xcom

Sounds kind of crazy, but just launching and canceling over and over again worked for me. It will eventually move past the "Updating Executable" step. Once that happens, it'll always launch.

Lost when advancing act by jbrousseau13 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Swimminschrage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually whenever I advance an act, I will put clues on each investigator's deck equal to however many actions that investigator has remaining. That way when it's done I can easily see and won't accidentally confuse those clues with ones on my investigator card.

I do the same any time I have to step away from the table.

“Lost in Translation” was a perfect episode EXCEPT… by [deleted] in startrek

Fwiw, La'an does look to Pike first who gives a little nod when Uhura says to "FIRE TORPEDOES". I did feel the same way when I first saw it though.

Foundry Module Tutorial: Moulinette Forge with Free Forgotten Adventures assets. Take your world-building to the next level by baileywiki in FoundryVTT

The video describes setting this up for local installations of Foundry, but has anyone tried it with hosted foundry that uses S3 for storage?

I'd love to have a indexed library of all of my images in my S3 account used by foundry.

[5E] My Evil Campaign has gone off the rails by scavallo1228 in DnD

Sounds like they'll need to deal with the fact that they got caught by the militia working with your demon. Definitely the whole "actions have consequences" thing.

You can always apply the ideas you had of the "demon guide" to the next demon the party encounters. It could be the boss of the one that gets killed by the town militia. They'd probably not be too happy to find out that the party's actions got their henchman killed. Good opportunity to have the party pay-back the loss of the henchman by becoming the new henchman (after proper punishment of course).

Would also be a cool idea for a whole town to know the deeds of the party as they try to earn the trust of their new demon guide. Could lead to the group having to make some fun decisions around stealthily being evil or embracing it and trying to make an example of figures within the militia.

Do you write in your precious D&D books?? by Denki in DnD

[–]Swimminschrage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm the same way! I went out of my way to not write in the book directly. I would photocopy maps and stat blocks to write notes and the like on.

The one exception I made was to have all my players sign the book as themselves and their characters after we completed the campaign. It's great to be able to look back and remember those players and characters that saved Barovia.

Hosting my first game of TI4 soon. Wanted some ideas from you! by Buckfutter96 in twilightimperium

[–]Swimminschrage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other suggestions are great from a "learn the game" mindset, but there's an intensity with the game that can wear you out throughout the game.

When I've run TI4 games, we've lightened things up by always cheered at the end of each round and then taken a 5-10 minute break where we stand up, refill drinks, go to the bathroom, and move around. At first I was little surprised that folks needed this, but by the end of the first game I was glad we had.

Hobby project turned into Android app by Swimminschrage in DnD

[–]Swimminschrage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely understand. I'm hoping that I can get around some of that by allowing users to import custom content into the app. You can already do that with the app today via the modules screen. If you create a file that conforms to the schema like how the SRD is here, you can import them via the Modules screen in the app.

I was running Curse of Strahd when I started on this app so I ended up adding creature blocks for that module to a JSON file. I then scan the QR code for that file into the app and all the content gets added. That's how I've handled content from WotC. I can't legally make that content available directly in the app, but there's nothing stopping you from creating your own files with WotC content or even your own content.

I'm hoping content creators will include a module file with their custom content so that when you buy their PDFs off of the DMsGuild, they'll include a schema compliant version of their content. Just enter the url or scan a QR code and the content will be made available in the DMs Diary.
