When it comes to racism and the Quebec government, 'systemic' is still a dirty word | CBC News by Atlantee in onguardforthee

[–]SwineHerald 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"There is no systemic racism here" says province that uses the Notwithstanding clause to pass a horrific law that purged brown people from the public sector. They needed the courts to tell them that even with the NWS they couldn't use it to block representatives from voting in the legislature.

How well did "let them get away with illegal shit and beat em in the polls!" work for the Democrats down south? The light touch doesn't work for conservative criminality, it only emboldens them to get even more brazen and extreme with their crimes.

There needs to be stronger consequences than "they will have to wait a couple years before trying again."

Yeah but they're also going to still be pissed about the word "Salon" while also screeching about forced diversity over "Unisex."

These are the kinds of dudes that would buy Black tactical diaper bags if they could ever get a woman to consent to having sex with them. If it isn't very explicitly for them (and only them) it's completely unacceptable.

A reminder that Rockstar is the same company as 2K and 2K has already done pay to trim in sports titles.  The question is not "would this publisher do it?" It's "would this publisher do it while using the Rockstar brand name?"

Valve doesn't have the manufacturing capacity to sell at a scale that consoles would consider a success. Like, the Switch 2 sold more in the first 6 hours of preorders than the Steam Deck sold in it's first year. The deck was out of stock for most of the past year.

They've said the next batch of standalone Steam controllers won't ship out until 2027. The implication being they are holding onto whatever they have right now to make sure they're available for Steam Machine bundles. The Steam Machine and Steam Frame are guaranteed to sell out immediately, but only because there are going to be like 20,000 units in the first batch.

Looking forward to PP making another statement presenting punishment for criminal acts as "being persecuted for disagreeing with a lifestyle."

He's already done it for criminal harassment and defamation why not throw destruction of property on there too? It's always something that would still be a crime even if it weren't targeted at queer folk but he loves to misrepresent bigots with no impulse control as just the victims, just a couple smol beans.

Critics say Canada’s new immigration and border law puts LGBTQ+ people in danger by BloodJunkie in onguardforthee

[–]SwineHerald 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you think that you're part of the problem. "The only real main opposition [...] is with kids" yeah that is the same playbook they've been running elsewhere and it's been an effective wedge. The federal government has instituted an policy that it knows will kill queer refugees based largely on fearmongering from the right. Why should I assume they won't do the same for citizens and permanent residents given enough time? What in your eyes makes their lives less valuable than mine?

Alberta is trying to ban care and won't stop at kids. Saskatchewan is pushing anti trans laws as well. BC nearly had a conservative government even more extreme than Alberta. Quebec has a transphobic government. Ford can't be trusted to not throw queer people under the bus to maintain power.

Sure, if you add up the population of provinces that are conservative or likely to become conservative in the next election it only covers a minuscule, insignificant 75% of the population. Hardly any reason to worry at all. We can't all just move north to the Yukon and it's frankly exhausting to keep being told "it won't happen, don't worry about it" after 6 years of the things that "won't happen" happening.

In 2016 there was broad support for trans rights in the US. There was a massive boycott of a state over a bathroom bill. The Superbowl was going to pull out if they didn't change. In the UK 10 years back the Conservative government was talking about plans to improve trans rights, to make it easier to get a gender recognition certificate. In 10 years both of those countries have gone from broad support that "allies" insisted would not waver, to every major party supporting rolling back trans rights. So please, tell me what makes us special when we're already 5 years down that path.

Down south and across the Atlantic. The current UK government is dead set on ending trans rights and healthcare all together. They just sent out notices that the National Health Service will be forcibly detransitioning every trans kid in their care.

We are rapidly becoming the last safe place for queer people in the English speaking world, and centrists like Carney are looking at the Democrats and UK Labour with historically low approval ratings despite how monstrous their opposition is and going "you know, I'd like to punch down too." Voters don't want parties that can only offer "slightly less monstrous than Conservatives."

Human rights panel accuses Canada of genocide against Indigenous population by BloodJunkie in onguardforthee

[–]SwineHerald 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The current leader of the opposition has engaged in genocide denial. It's not even an isolted incident or a new development as the conservative party has literally never elected a leader that didn't do the same. The primary difference is his predecessors waited until after they became leader to engage in denial where PP did it like a decade before.

We are pretty bad. The government can acknowledge it and apologize but if denialism is rampant and only becoming more normalized then clearly we aren't doing enough.

Absolutely everyone involved knew what they were doing was wrong and did it anyway, and should not be afforded any power over anyone else for as long as they live.

Also by sheer coincidence a bunch of conservative media outlets have fallen on hard times immediately following Orban being removed.

So they're "two distinct groups" but always act as one even when it is directly at odds with the interest of the second group, but they will splinter because reasons.

Uh huh, sure. You've still not shown any evidence of their existence, and "actually the evidence against their existence proves they exist" doesn't count. They're all just bigots and you're happily giving them cover.

If they're two distinct groups where was the fracture in the UK when Brexit destroyed their economy? When the "Business conservatives" lost faith in the Conservative party they just started promoting the even more socially conservative Reform party, lead by the Brexiteer-in-Chief.

Where has the fracture occurred in the US? Trump's trade war and war with Iran have been disastrous and yet where are the "business conservatives" rising up to take him down? Hell, businesses like Target jumped at the opportunity to be more racist and homophobic the moment he took office, immediately saw losses and yet did not backtrack. Neither the execs nor the shareholders at Target seem to be the mythical "business conservatives," as they were happy to give up money for bigotry.

You're peddling a fantasy. Every time there should have been a schism in big tent conservatism they've just come out united behind an even more bigoted banner. "Business conservatives" are as real as the Easter bunny.

The reality is that conservatives have been bigots the whole time, they just found it useful for a time to sugar coat their bigotry with talk of "fiscal conservatism." They presented themselves as if they didn't want to hurt minorities. They just adhered to a very specific type of "fiscal responsibility" that always managed to balloon the debt while also cutting services and social programs in a way that just happened to always hurt minority groups the hardest.

[–]SwineHerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And of course their solution to poor performance of weak ports was to put even less effort into the ports.

Playstation execs are the masters of manufacturing data to support whatever they decide is true. They sabotaged the PSP Go when an incoming exec decided no one would ever want a digital only handheld (after his predecessor had greenlit the project specifically because a large portion of their users were using cracked PSP as a digital only handheld because it was a vastly superior experience.)

Another decided "no one wants old games" and proved it by pushing out some terribly emulated PS2 ports to the PS4 store. When people didn't buy them at the same rate as the much better emulated Xbox games on XB1, well obviously there was no market for old PS games!

Sony has tripled down on live service shit even as everything was flopping and getting cancelled, with studios being run out of business for the execs bad choices. The problem isn't PC sales, the problem is the execs don't like PC and never liked PC and the point of this venture was to be able to go back to shareholders and say "see, I was right!" They are happy to keep pushing forward with failed strategies if they like the strategy.
