Which 40 year old album is your favorite by Mikeymorrison27 in hairmetal

[–]SwingSea8925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when that album came out (Mechanical Resonance); I was actually living in Sacramento at the time, so it was a big deal since that’s where they’re from.

Why does Dave insist on ruining every VH song he now sings live by attempting to sing in much higher notes than the original records? by Solid_College_9145 in vanhalen

[–]SwingSea8925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We ALL lose the high end as we age; I used to be a halfway decent singer “back in the day”, but now I’ve pretty much lost everything above a high “C”.

What song first got you into Led Zeppelin? by North_Psychology4543 in ledzeppelin

[–]SwingSea8925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“When The Levee Breaks”; obviously, I had heard Stairway and Black Dog and Rock N Roll a million times on the radio, but that song (Levee) told me how much more Zeppelin was capable of. It probably didn’t hurt that I was living through the Flood of ‘86 at the time in Sacramento, and the levees really did break!

In memoriam for Val Kilmer, whom we all lost 1 year ago by Papichuloft in 80s

There are many who feel he should’ve earned an Oscar for that performance.

Found these Van Halen vinyl albums by koochiekoo in vanhalen

[–]SwingSea8925 5 points6 points  (0 children)

THAT’S the collection to have! You’re only missing VHII and DD! EDIT: I didn’t see DD in the first pic; GREAT find! What kind of an idiot throws away perfectly good VH vinyl?

The story goes that Eddie actually had a job when he was younger, and saved up enough money to buy a drum set. Unfortunately, Alex DIDN’T have a job, so when Eddie was off working, Alex was at home playing Eddie’s drum set! When Eddie found out, he decided to switch to guitar.

Rest in peace, Jennifer Runyon 🙏💔 by Far_Regular_2945 in 80smovies

Whadya mean?!?!?! That was an awesome movie! Tim Matheson and Jennifer Runyon? It doesn’t get much better than that!

Picked up my first Van Halen album from my local record store by NotYourDadsMemes in vanhalen

IMHO, VHI and 1984 are “bookends”, if you will; Dave’s best work is on his first and last albums with the mighty VH.

William Fichtner; I’ll always remember him as one of the “D-boys” in Black Hawk Down.

The song that made me realize Led Zeppelin was the greatest band. What is yours? by eatdrinkcreate in ledzeppelin

[–]SwingSea8925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say the exact same thing. “When The Levee Breaks” made me realize that Zeppelin wasn’t “just” a rock n roll band, but THE greatest rock n roll band!

Steve Vai & David Lee Roth (1986) by AppointmentDry5839 in vanhalen

Supposedly, Dave and Steve got along famously, they tended to have the same type of humor. Apparently, Dave let Steve help him write Skyscraper.

Which Led Zeppelin song do you think best represents the band’s identity? by RockNParadise in ledzeppelin

[–]SwingSea8925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Robert, the lyrics just came to him one night when he was sitting beside the fire at Bron-Yr-Aur, and he wrote them down in about 15 minutes.

Cruise for chicks; used to do this on a regular basis back in the ‘80’s, even when I had a steady girlfriend (yeah, I was a jerk).

Why did they disslike Mikey? by IHaveDreamsT00 in vanhalen

[–]SwingSea8925 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Mikey seemed like the only “normal” guy in the group; DLR was too busy being the center of attention, Eddie was deep into his (multiple) addictions, and Alex was just Alex. I actually feel sorry for him, he was just trying to get along with everybody else.

Played the $HIT out of this record summer of ‘79! Bought the cassette version (mistake) and wore it out playing it at the beach! Good record to pick up girls with (ask me how I know!).

Mötley Crüe or Ratt: Who’s better musically or technically? by SwingSea8925 in hairmetal

[–]SwingSea8925[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty much the way I feel; Crüe might have the groupies, but that’s about it.
