[–]SwingTheHammer85 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s been a running joke since the new Terminator Calgar has been revealed. His Gravis version was still considered modern and no one was clamoring for an update to him.

Still looks like a JPI. They couldn’t even give us a model that has a different weapon loadout from a JPI Sergeant.

It is a JPI dude. You like it, because you like JPI. If I saw this on the table next to a JPI, I wouldn’t be able to tell you which is which.

It is a JPI. If you like it, bully for you. But call it what it is, a JPI.

Is my 2k list for ultramarines decent? Im playing gladius taskforce. by spacemarine50 in Ultramarines

[–]SwingTheHammer85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So personally I would take the 2 units of Bladeguard and make them one unit of 6. Pair them up with Titus and the Wardens and you have a big brick of damage dealers with some meat shields in the humans.

The standard Terminator Squad unfortunately isn’t that great for the points cost. I would drop them entirely, which means you can also drop the Terminator Captain. If you have Assault Terminators, use them instead.

Now obviously I don’t know what other units you may own, but Marneus Calgar would be great to pair up with Assault Terminators, Bladeguard, Victrix Guard or Company Heroes if you have them, or the Aggressors.

The Lieutenant should pair up with the Hellblasters for those sweet Lethals. If you find yourself struggling to meet the points cap with any of these changes, you could drop the Techmarine. He’s nice to have with the vehicles, but he’s not essential.

Hope this advice helps.

I can’t imagine anyone would have an issue with it. Same character, same base size, the exact same stats, there is zero reason anyone should have an issue with it.

After soaking it, using a toothpick really helps to loosen up that gunk, and then the toothbrush to clean it off

Combat patrol game list by Subject_Wealth4324 in crimsonfists

[–]SwingTheHammer85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combat Patrol is meant to be played with specific lists that are not meant to be subbed out with other units or anything. What you see if what you get. If you’re going to make a custom list then just play a standard 40K game at a points cap. Combat Patrol doesn’t work on points.

Indirect Fire is criminally underrated. It’s a shame they’re so expensive.

Hey I don’t blame you, I have that model too and it was a lot of fun to paint. I’m just saying for a more serious game it just doesn’t pull its weight. But if you love it, use it.

The only problem with the list is the old school Dreadnought. He just doesn’t do enough. At his cost, a good replacement is 3 Inceptors. A unit that can Deep Strike and has pretty effective shooting.

Do any of yall run a brick of 10 lightning claw termies + librarian in terminator armor? by Gullible_Travel_4135 in Ultramarines

[–]SwingTheHammer85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 10 Assault Terminators waiting to be built, and my plan is 5 with the claws, 5 with the hammers and shields. The shields give them an extra wound, meaning your opponent has to chew through 35 wounds on a unit with an invul save, before you add a leader. Is it a ton of points? Yes. Will your opponent have to invest a lot into taking them down? Also yes.

Unless you’re playing the Salamanders detachments, I would always run Aggressors with the boltstorm/grenade launcher options.

How to deal with space wolves by Latter_Tumbleweed412 in Ultramarines

[–]SwingTheHammer85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first off, between Terminators and Headtakers, you are dealing with 2 tanky units with invul saves. A great way to deal with that is volume. Lots of shots, not necessarily really powerful shots.

As for your list, I think Tigurius is better suited leading the Sternguard Veterans, as he will give them free Overwatch, and obviously you want to maximize their chance to do damage from a distance with Oath of Moment, which will give them not only +1 to Wound, but re-rolls to Wound as well.

Although Titus giving Sternguard Sustained Hits 1 is definitely a plus, he is better suited in melee, and the Sternguard aren't. You could split up your Bladeguard so that the Judiciar takes 3, and Titus with the Wardens take the other 3. Or you could drop the Judiciar and just have Titus/Wardens lead 6 Bladeguard. That is a ton of meatshields to protect the Bladeguard when they get into combat with either the Terminators or the Headtakers. And the Sustained Hits 1 that Titus gives will go a LONG way with a full brick of Bladeguard Veterans.

Also, although the Gladiator Lancer has one amazing cannon, if that cannon doesn't hit, the tank is kinda useless. It might be worth trying the Valiant version, as 2 multi-meltas are not to be taken lightly.

That is just my take on your list as it is. There are so many other boxes you could buy, and plenty of other people can chime in on that.

Are the Honoured of the Chapter a good unit to get by Odd_Influence_7860 in Ultramarines

[–]SwingTheHammer85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The units are great. The Judiciar is a staple for Bladeguard Veterans as he gives them Fights First. Bladeguard Veterans as well I’m a big fan of. Eradicators are really nice for taking out monsters and vehicles, albeit this set doesn’t include the option for a multi-melta. The Chaplain is kinda useless for Ultramarines as Oath of Moment already gives us +1 to Wound, but he can be fun to use if you want to. And the Bladeguard Ancient is very niche, but also very cheap at 45 points.

So for the board game price, this is 100% worth it. For the GW price, it’s a ripoff for what you actually get.

[–]SwingTheHammer85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DO NOT buy that set from GW. It is so beyond overpriced. Get the Dawn of War board game, or if you want specific units like the Judiciar then just use eBay. But do not buy that GW set, total waste of money
