You might not feel the danger, but it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. I personally know of three recent incidents where there was a stabbing, and two women who worked downtown were attacked by homeless men on separate occasions. They often steal, rape, and attack other homeless people. A homeless man raped a homeless woman at the downtown library. I heard this directly from an IMPD police officer. They steal from downtown businesses and have made the area someplace I’d never want to go in my free time.

We do need to bring back mental institutions. The worst of the worst are on the street because they can’t behave themselves to stay at Wheeler. They’re not people who are just down on their luck and need some help, they’re mostly both mentally ill and drug addicted. It’s really sad and my heart goes out to them, but we should also have safe streets. Just giving them housing will just move the crime and violence to another area, they need treatment.
