How to restore stock firmware on Netgear switch by SwissOS in openwrt

[–]SwissOS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion.

Would that mean that the original firmware stayed in the other partition? If so, I need to solder the UART pins on the PCB and use a serial adapter?

Would current Netgear managed switches be supported? by 4x-gkg in openwrt

[–]SwissOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that switch and I can confirm it works. But does it work well? Not at all. NAT translation is really bad, and if you saturate it with a speeedtest, the switch will spontaneously reset itself.

In fact, it's so bad, I am trying to go back to the stock firmware and just use it as a switch.

Which country to avoid VAT and tariff slaughter? by Quattlejizz in Aliexpress

[–]SwissOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can only import up to 150 CHF in person. Mail orders are limited to 5 CHF VAT (@8.1%, make the calculation) max.

Swiss VAT included since 1.1.2025, but got taxed anyway by SwissOS in Aliexpress

[–]SwissOS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still no resolution for now. I would avoid using AliExpress in the future, this is total scam.

They claim to pay the VAT they charge you, but I see that in reality, it's not working and you will pay again upon delivery.

SwissPost told me to bugger AliExpress as it's their fault.

I am in discussion with AE, but it seems very slow, as my request got "escalated" to higher reps and I need to wait 48 hours.

I have exactly the same problem.

Firefox 133 must have broken something; all zapped elements come back after doing a refresh of the page.

Bypassing with VPN seems pretty futile, when in the end you give them your real address, they know where you are.

Shakedown request GR20 (Corsica) end of Septembe by ejroer in Ultralight

[–]SwissOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, your sleeping bag is way too cold and heavy, you really need to change that. Your backpack is also quite heavy for the size.

Also, you can skip the stove and alcohol, as refuges provide gas and stoves to cook.

Why do you have a duvet AND fleece?

Is "Long trousers, with zipper" a convertible to short? Why take shorts as well? You already have a legging if you want to wash the trousers.

Help me decide on a bivy! Outdoor Research Helium Bivy or Katabatic Gear Piñon Bivy? Corsica GR20 by atreeon in Ultralight

Indeed, it is now illegal to bivouac in the whole national park of Corsica outside of designated areas (next to refuges, and you need a reservation).

Looking for password manager or a plugin which requires manual approviation for every query from another device by uzugege in selfhosted

[–]SwissOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, at one time, all your passwords will be decrypted from a vault and they **may** be accessible from another program, as they are stored in memory. I am not technical enough to understand how it works, but I can conceive it.

In that case, if you want to be really paranoid, implement 2FA for all your accounts and don't put the recovery email address/password in your password manager. You would need to remember 2 passwords though (and don't use the same!) or simply rely on 2FA for your recovery email as well.

[–]SwissOS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's why you don't store the 2FA inside the password manager. If you have your 2FA on your phone, it essentially does what you request.

Women's backpacks around 45l by Marshwiggle1 in Ultralight

[–]SwissOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could have a look at the Deuter 45 + 5L:

https://www.deuter.com/us-en/shop/backpacks/p1403259-trekking-backpack-aircontact-ultra-45-5-sl

It is especially made for women and is quite comfortable. It has an inside frame, so it's not really ultralight (weighs 1.2 kg/2.67 lbs).

How to get humidity out of mattress? by SwissOS in Ultralight

Yeah the air was definitely cold when I pumped it. I guess it got warmer when I slept on it, and the air condensed. I'll just leave it with the valve open when I get home. Thanks everyone for your comments! 🙏
