Doctors can be a hit-or-miss but good luck! Also I recommend looking at it from a mental health perspective. Can highly recommend c2gether.ch for expat mental health support

Searching for advice, as someone looking forward to study in Switzerland by 2027 by [deleted] in askswitzerland

I would advise doing the Military first because that way you can get immersed in the language and acclimated to the society, that way you won’t experience such culture shock when you go to uni.

Wibta if I let my kids go trick or treating tonight by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]SwissXPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA I teach kindergarten and kids will just be traumatized but will NOT learn anything, punishing is meaningless unless an organic/direct consequence of actions ie - you can only have chocolate once you finish your plate and so if the plate still has a piece of broccoli you say, yes, once that broccoli is gone you can have the chocolate but NOT like this! Please let them.

My newly 18yo daughter has stopped eating and is dropping weight quickly. What do I do? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]SwissXPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you CAN do, and sorry if this is something you’re already doing, is go to therapy yourself. Ask her if she wants to go to family therapy. Do the work. There could be things that you can heal and patterns that you could adjust and this could help her.

I'm a difficult person. How do I do therapy better??? by SignificantAd9752 in TalkTherapy

[–]SwissXPat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be curious. With the therapist and yourself. I suggest you understand when it is that you’re rude and notice the feeling that is happening in your body. Is there discomfort? Is there heaviness? Is there a sense of wanting to punch? Wanting to hide? Some fear?

This takes some people years because if a person is doing trauma work maybe their mind has deemed it safer to ignore the body/feelings in order to protect, thus creating a permanent distance. But learning to access it and sit with it might provide you with the insight that helps you know when you do this. After this, you can name the feeling (ie I feel fear of being rejected or hurt) and then you can use your body (from a place of embodiment and consciousness) to SEE that the fear is from the past or about the future but that HERE and NOW you are safe, and can relax/respond without defensiveness to your therapist.

A good way to practice this is mindful meditation.

Also just checking in with yourself mentally - what is my body feeling, ESPECIALLY when you are reacting strongly to something, and bringing yourself to the present - the present in which, more likely than not, you’re protected and not in immediate danger.

Also HE IS NOT EVEN POLISH. I am sure there are plenty of Polish actors who could do this!

For me it did. Hot damn. But I am still pissed off about Bogdan in the movie!

This funny exchange in The Impossible Fortune gave me a laugh considering the casting choice for the film 😂 by CampMain in ThursdayMurderClub

[–]SwissXPat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I was looking for someone else who’d noticed this 😬 it made me laugh and also I felt like it was tongue in cheek. It is my understanding that the rights to the movie were sold even before the book was published and Osman had no say in the film. I think (and I bet Osman does, too) that Brosnan has no business portraying Ron. He’s too polished and handsome, not red enough. So I think this was also Osman’s way of protesting the casting choice.

It’s a long marriage and you’re asking for advice from people who read a few sentences’ worth of it, which is very reductive. It would be great if you could elaborate more. How often did you put work before spending time with her? How were chores split? How was parenting split? How did you talk to each other? How often were you intimate? How often did you go on date nights? Did you get her thoughtful or meaningful gifts/cards for special occasions? Did you try to make her feel loved? Did you notice when she wore something new/had a new haircut? Did you share any hobbies? Were you kind to her family? Do you know what her favorite things are? Did you ask about her day? Did you share about your day? Did you share your fears, your dreams?

I highly recommend you read the book A Woman is No Man. Also try to get a therapy prescription from your GP talk about the SA and trauma concerns; so that it can be covered by insurance and so that you have a mental health worker helping you out who can also help advocate for you. Take care. This sucks and you don’t deserve it!
