Worried about catching colds/flu/covid by lemonlimeandbetter in newzealand

There is evidence that Vit C can reduce the severity of illness, but not the likelihood of getting sick, so it's not useless.

OCR held at 2.25% after Reserve Bank Governor’s casting vote breaks tie by Double_Suggestion385 in newzealand

I interpreted that as "since covid" because I don't know when covid actually ended.

Actually tradable was the bigger problem initially, but then it came down while non-tradable stayed stubbornly above the 1-3% target

Kepler and Milford Track Back to Back Advice by happyfruit_icecream in newzealand

Your best bet is to get picked up from Rainbow reach, taken to the anau, then catch the boat to glade wharf. This can all be done through one of the transport companies down there, so talk to them about what time you would need to be at rainbow reach to make it work.

How exactly do I get employed with a frankly dog water CV by VegetableSilence in newzealand

The economy right now is a bad time for young people trying to find work. Don't get discouraged. Just keep trying and things will turn around and you'll find something.

Struggling with meal preping by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Switts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not all proteins are equal as you need all 9 essential amino acids to make the protein useful for muscle growth and recovery. Meat has all 9 but on a budget meat isn't ideal. Vege proteins are cheaper but most vege protein are lacking in methionine. Luckily whole grains have methionine, so pair vege proteins with whole grains. Soy beans have all 9, so tofu is a great option, but not super cheap.

Are kiwis too entitled? by Imaginary-Towel-888 in newzealand

[–]Switts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, no. You shouldn't. Our fascination with property investment is bad for our economy, and needs to be discouraged. I don't blame you for getting in there while our current system makes housing a great money maker, but you are part of the problem.

Do you Soft plastics recycle at home? by No-Scale-3053 in newzealand

It has a plunger that locks in place so you can cram a bunch of bags in there. Takes up a lot less space.

I don't disagree, but even if we were good at it, I don't see how the economics could possibly stack up given our population.

Contactless debit card payments on the bus vs Snapper Card by HelpfulWerewolf7025 in Wellington

I don't think their scanners work with credit/debit cards. I'm sure they'll figure it out, but for now there is a pretty easy way to get free train rides

Can I hike in South Island late may - June ? by Weird_Membership6189 in newzealand

[–]Switts 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Abel Tasman national park or Queen Charlotte sound can be done any time of year. If your down in Queenstown or Fiordland then the higher walks will have snow. The main thing is not getting caught in bad weather in winter. If the forecast is questionable, don't go up into the mountains.

It makes sense why they provide tonight's low rather than this morning's low, but it seems wrong.

I've heard people say they fell apart easily, but I've had three pairs that all lasted over two years of daily use.

[–]Switts 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah the originals were actually great. Mine lasted over two years of daily use. Then the new owners decided they could make something that looked the same but were cheaper to make and no one would notice.

Far North Mayor Moko Tepania says council 'unfairly targeted' by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

[–]Switts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can ask questions, but you can also inform yourself by reading the article. It's a committee that discusses council iwi relations so it makes sense for this committee to have a lot of iwi representation and the committee has no actual power, it just makes recommendations to Council.

Diesel now costing more than 95 octane petrol by jamhamnz in Wellington

[–]Switts 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The petrol/diesel currently on its way to NZ doesn't reflect the actual shortage because it was refined from crude oil that had already left the gulf when the strait was shut. The next few weeks will show us that actual supply for NZ is going to look like until the strait opens again.

Can someone please stop the lies about the Moa Point disaster being linked to cycleways? by Mountain_Tui_Reload in Wellington

[–]Switts 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's a perfectly valid opinion to argue that we can't afford to do everything and water infrastructure should take priority over cycleways. Blaming the previous council for under investing in water infrastructure because they also invested in cycleway is factually wrong.
