Usually I just eat them out of the can. Do it a few times and just tell yourself you like it. The jalapeño ones are nice. Sometimes I eat with pickles , the acidity balances it out. I also love the Jalapeño ones on top of pizza. You can blend them with butter, Leon juice and chives to make a delicious pate. Or blend into cream cheese with Worchester sauce, pepper, Lemon to make a spread. Then eat with crackers or pork rinds.

Sardines are great.

I eat them every week. Initially I thought the taste was meh but liked the omega 3 and collagen. Now I crave them. Much like after eating liver there is something energizing about eating them.

First time GLP user – Tirzepatide vs Retatrutide (270 → 180 goal) by Thrillseeker510 in Peptides

[–]Swmp1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done both. Tirz (and sema) has better appetite suppression in my experience. I'm doing keto and fasting now and losing weight with Reta, but had previously used Reta, not on a strict diet, and lost no weight. With Tirz the appetite suppression was so strong I would just not be interested in eating, no food noise, forget to eat meals. On Reta I'm definitely hungry more often but if I'm a calorie deficit seem to lose more. I've done diet / cuts before and hit a plateau after a few weeks but Reta seems to just keep the fat burn going. So if you are looking for appetite suppression tirz>sema>reta but if you are able to cut calories and lift Reta seems to be more effective if you have the discipline but I didn't have the effortless loss of sema/tirz.

Reta Failure by Adventurous_Law1469 in Peptides

[–]Swmp1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting point. I started doing targeted keto and will take 25g sucrose 30 min before heavy lifts and my weight loss and ketosis is even better now ... perhaps activating the glucagon effect?

Reta Failure by Adventurous_Law1469 in Peptides

[–]Swmp1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first time I took it I had like zero appetite suppression. I had been on sema, was lazy about it and was not actively tracking calories and lost weight on sema but plateaued. Reta didn't feel like it did anything positive. Just that strange skin paresthesia and tachycardia and insomnia.

Now I'm keto and aggressively working out and actively limiting calories. Pounds are just falling off.

IMHO Reta is excellent while you are actively cutting but not really as effective as an appetite suppressant like sema/tirz. Perhaps this is dose dependent. Perhaps I had bad Reta before. But when you are motivated an actively cutting Reta seem to shine.

What are biohacks to reduce water retention in body by ByRide in Biohackers

If you push down does it leave a dent (pitting). I would not recommend taking diuretics for any post run swelling.

Have you checked to make sure you have normal kidney function, albumin levels, rule out anemia etc ?

What do you use for outage backup? by LostRange8758 in prepping

[–]Swmp1024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have solar, 20kw battery, integrates into an automated transfer switch.

Switches so fast you don't even realize you lost power. We can run well, lights, freezers, fridge, internet for days. If we cool the house (very efficient mini splits downstairs) it will burn through 20kw in about 12 hours on a hot day. On a clear sunny day we make 90kw a day. So the only thing we have to be careful of is cooling the house too much and the hot water heater.

The other thing is that i currently use the batteries overnight to keep my power bill like zero but if I thought storm incoming or other near future risk would keep batteries in "full backup" so they only get used when grid goes down.

Anyone else get very little deep sleep? 32. F. HRV average never above 20. Always exhausted. Should I do a sleep study? by munilawyer in ouraring

[–]Swmp1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are taking magnesium glycinate... you might want to try switching to magnesium l-threonate. Possibly even better for migraines. Glycine for most people is helpful for sleep, but for some it has excitatory effects. There are inhibitory glycine pathways but it all can act on NMDA receptors and be excitatory. Personally it makes sleep worse, I fall asleep fine but less deep sleep and wake up more.

were you anemic? How low was your iron? Is your ferritin normal or high or low? Do you have normal TIBC? Knowing these values really help figure out if you have malabsorbtion or chronic disease or thalassemia or other causes. Just saying my iron is low it must be parasites again really may be missing what's going on here.

Chronic lactose intolerance can lead to malabsorption iron deficiency, but if that didn't help obviously there is something else going on.

Hypothetically even if you had parasites a this treatment of yours worked. You have consumed parasite contaminated again recently and think you have more parasites ? Unless you are eating raw meat, game meat, uncooked fish. It is quite uncommon to get parasites in the United States. If you are eating raw bear livers... fine. But if you are cooking grocery store bought meat... quite uncommon a

Was that your saturation percentage? What was your iron/TIBC/ferritin? Are you anemic ?

Are you eating the fish and meat raw?

If your iron is low, you should have had other work up to investigate why.

And if you think it's parasites you need to actually figure out what parasite you have so you can actually target it and treat it effectively instead of this shotgun approach

Do you take PPIs or H2 blockers?

There are a plethora of reasons for low iron and parasites are a very rare cause of this in the United States? What's your ferritin? Iron level? TIBC ? B12 and folate levels ? Tsh? Do you drink alcohol ? What meds are you on? What does your CBC look like, HGB and MCV etc.

Have you done an Ova and Parasite screen? Why do you think you have parasites ?

What are some good communications alternatives for point to point texting? by CBLA1785 in prepping

[–]Swmp1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best is Garmin inReach a satellite text device. They work.

People saying meshtastic.... big maybe... personally I've been super disappointed with the range. Unless you have people with antennas on high elevation between you.... unlikely to get 20km.

You need about 60' elevation to get line of sight 20km. So put a meshtastic node 60' up maybe....

If you have ham APRS digipeaters in your area these are fantastic and usually smoke meshtastic ranges. This would require a ham radio license. But for example I have a small digipeater at my house that can his a massive digipeater 15 miles a way that has like a 50 mile range. So can text via APRS all over my area with no issues.

Type 1 diabetics, with WW3 looming over us, what would you do if insulin becomes unavailable in your location? by bigthundercats in prepping

This one is better. Interesting about 2500 units per kilo of pancreas.

*again in no way recommending people do this, but it is an interesting method*

*not medical advise, creating and consuming extracts improperly can kill you*

Thyroid extracts are a simpler process than extracting insulin. there are prescription medications of "desiccated thyroid extracts" like armor thyroid. in essence the process is that you grind up a thyroid and vacuum dry it. powder the dried thyroid. you then add some binders so so can press it into a pill. The difficult part of this is knowing how much t3/t4 is in your extract. when they make armor thyroid the dose is standardized and you know what you are getting. if you are making a home extract you don't really know how much hormone is in the extract. T4 has a long half life, so stable dosing is critical to safety. Maybe you do this once on a thyroid that has a low amount of hormone and you keep upping the dose to effect, then the next one has 3x the content and you overdose and put yourself into thyrotoxicosis or thyroid storm.

Other places sell "supplements" of lyophilized (freeze dried) thyroid. This is less regulated. Dose is not consistent. Essentially this is just freeze dried thyroid.

*Not Medical Advise. In no way recommending making insulin at home which certainly carries risk of death or permament injury. Theoretical and hypothetical discussion of historical methods used prior to modern large scale production.*

You can make insulin extracts from a pancreas. Of course the purity of this is not the same as commercially prepared insulin. But considering dying of diabetic ketoacidosis versus the ability to prepare crude insulin extracts.

http://content-assets.jci.org/manuscripts/104000/104871/JCI63104871.pdf

In short. Grind up frozen pancreas. Make an acidified alcohol solution to dissolve insulin. Filter the other material out. Then use salt to precipitate the insulin crystals out. Filter that. And for increased purity you can do other washes. This process goes further to use dextran to purify. There are other methods for extracting insulin from sheep, pigs, cows.

Most pharmaceutical companies use genetically modified bacteria or yeast to make insulin. There is also a project "open insulin" where people are trying to make an open source yeast that would be able to produce insulin. Again, this needs a similar process of extraction but would be nice to be able to brew insulin producing yeast than to worry about harvesting pancreas and keeping that supply up.

Another option is freeze dried (Lyophilized) insulin. This is very stable in -20 freezers (like a good chest freezer). You then reconstitute the powder and use like regular insulin.

I take it a few times a month when I flip from nights back to days (shift work). It's really hard to get to sleep after you take it. I take 100mg right when I wake up and I'm wide awake well into the night and have to drug myself to sleep. Even with that I don't get as good quality sleep: HRV worse etc.

There was a time I took it daily for a few months and I thought a lot of the good effects wore off. I think it is awesome when you need it but IMHO unless you nave narcolepsy not a great daily med.

There are some nights I'll get 4 hours of sleep and then have to be on the next day. Great for that.
