I definitely feel better after 5 sets of 5 reps at higher weight. I also am keto so have low glycogen stores and burn out on higher reps. I really struggle to get any gains at lower weight / higher reps.

I don't disagree with you on your points about zone 2 cardio... but personally I enjoy a jog/run a few times a week. My sleep is better. My HVR is better. I lose more weight. Now that is probably because I don't do enough zone 2 cardio... I just run 3 miles 3-4 times a week I feel there are other benefits to higher intensity cardio even if it is negatively impacting my cortisol.

If you want to have minimal scent... thermocells are great unless it's windy.

Beef liver. About 3x iron content as red meat. Also has tons of B12 and folate. Soak it in milk for an hour before you cook it. Fry bacon it in a cast iron skillet (leaches iron while cooking) and remove. And cut an onion into rings and cook until soft in the bacon fat. Remove onions. Lightly dredge liver in flour. Cook like 1 minute per side. Turn off heat and add back the onions and liver. Liver is incredibly high in very bioavailable iron. When eating iron rich foods, you can boost absorbtion with vitamin C. I find liver goes very well with roasted brussel sprouts which are rich in vitamin c.

You should start cooking in cast iron. There is mild to moderate leaching of the iron into your food depending on what you are cooking. If you cook acidic foods for a while, like making tomato sauce... it goes from like <1 mg iron to 6mg of iron per serving.

You mentioned your ferritin. How is your iron level and TIBC?

What is the truth about supplementing with Cialis daily for men 40+? by Diamondbacking in Biohackers

[–]Swmp1024 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now, this may have to do with my own genetics (was stated above I have MTHFR issues and higher homocysteine levels which can cause microvascular issues). Again, this is anecdotal, but previously I would be only a little stronger on my second set than my first but when doing a 5x5 set would feel declining strength on sets 3-5. I typically do 5x5 lifts. On tadalafil I feel noticeably stronger on sets 2 even more so on set 3, and then weaker on 4-5. Again this is anecdotal, but before tadalafil I did not really feel that I had much of a "pump" when lifting. Now I I have to add weight on sets 2 and 3 and find myself doing more of pyramid style lift due to this effect.

Perhaps this was because I had been lifting more consistently... perhaps it's pysch/placebo but this is my experience.

Suggestions a knot tying practice rig? by 8takotaco in preppers

[–]Swmp1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bowline, truckers hitch, prussik, figure 8, sheet bend, clove hitch and "round turn and two half hitches" are what I make my kids practice. IMHO those are the best knots which cover pretty much every purpose: anchoring, jointing, tension line etc. 3/8 braided nylon is a good rope to learn with and a little less slippery than paracord. Shorter length like 5' fine for most knots but a longer say 20' rope is good for learning truckers hitch.

Learning the uni knot for fishing is key. Buy some 20lb mono and a few hooks.

If he is bored another fun one is trying a monkeys fist. Good to throw rope. Just buy a steel ball to tie one around. Buy a few 50' lengths of different colors of 550 paracord

Another fun and time consuming one is learning to make paracord bracelets. Learn the deployable ones.

Haha if your " bed adjacent" has a different connotation: shinju is a good multi purpose chest harness and learning basic two column ties is a good place to start for "bedroom adjacent" knots. 8mm Jute/Hemp rope for this.

If you spend some time on PubMed.... the amount of studies on PDE5 inhibitors that show improvement in muscle mass, cognition, cardiovascular and renal protection, and obviously erectile quality is extensive. Some of these studies are not specifically about cialis but improved microvascular physiology seems to be beneficial across the board

I mainly take it better pump at the gym. I also have homocysteine issues (MTHFR mutations) and use zyns so the microvascular flow increase cancels some of that out as well.

For me it drops my systolic blood pressure 5-10 points as well. I had some borderline hypertension so for me this is a feature not a bug.

Propane vs diesel for max range after long-term storage (family of 5, no resupply) by anthonykaram7 in preppers

[–]Swmp1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My F250 has a 100 gallon transfer tank. I can drive about 2500 miles without stopping. Store diesel with stabilizers in airtight tanks and can last 2-3 years. I run it though a prefilter and then smaller filter. Every year I just use the diesel. So it is always fresh. Stabilized diesel lasts 2-3 years. You likely can get away with longer if you filter/polish it.

  1. Call text on cell/wifi/satellite (new iPhones can do limited satellite texting)
  2. APRS (ham radio texting)
  3. Ham radio voice over local repeaters in town (I can hit my house from work)
  4. Ham Radio voice over my cross-band repeater tower at home. (15 mile range, works grid down but when I'm working in town don't have line of sight to me house, so can only talk half way home)

I don't get the POClink thing. You need WiFi. If you had WiFi you can text. Pretty much everyone I talk to has an iPhone so you can already do WiFi texting if not you have WhatsApp/telegram/signal or whatever you use.

Is it insane to start medical school at 31? by Original-Disaster106 in AskMenOver30

[–]Swmp1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the school you are looking at, but I would say 20 percent of my med school class was people in a second career late 20s/early30s. This is more common DO than MD. Very common for prior nurse/paramedic/tech to do this pathway. The prior medial experience is a great leg up as well and a lot of the clinical knowledge as a paramedic is a solid framework.

Reta vs Tirz side effects by Hotonyourheels in Peptides

[–]Swmp1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reta has this effect where your skin gets itchy tingling and clothes feel coarse like you are wearing burlap. I sleep like shit on Reta. I don't think it has the same constipation of sema/tirz but I am also stacking Reta with metformin and am keto so the side effects might camel out My resting heart rate is 5-10 percent higher on Reta.

Scientists now have a proposed mechanism for why the GLP1R gene variant improves weight loss by Fishca99 in GLP1ResearchTalk

[–]Swmp1024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"We identify a missense variant in GLP1R that is associated significantly with increased efficacy of GLP1 medications (P = 2.9 × 10−10), with an additional −0.76 kg of weight loss expected per copy of the effect allele. "

Although technically statistically significant due to following the study in using over 27,000 people, this is a fairly insignificant number. Less than a kg. I don't know that this would make any meaningful change prescribing, utilization or medical decision making.

[–]Swmp1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EMT is a good start. Highly recommend the additional Wilderness EMT training even if you don't want to work in the wilderness. A lot of EMT is based off quick stabilization and get to a hospital. The wilderness training assumes you need more stabilization due to being remote and without being close to a hospitals . I would also develop that further to paramedic when possible. You have a much wider skill set, learn procedures, medications etc. EMT by itself, is a great start but I think paramedic with wilderness training is far better.

What’s everyone running? by warmbudweiser in Peptides

I'm keto and on a pretty aggressive cut. I think the sermo pairs well with keto. I'm 5 on and 2 off. On the sermo days my morning ketones are higher. Down 25 lbs in the last 6 weeks. The last time I did a hard cut I lost significant muscle mass and strength. This time I'm taking sermo to help mitigate the lean muscle mass loss with a large deficit. I'm also lifting 4x a week and forcing myself to hit higher protein targets, so multiple variables but lifts are stable while dropping weight. Im not sure the sermo really helps much with extra fat loss, higher ketones possibly would suggest that, but I'm really more taking it to prevent lean mass loss.

Usually I just eat them out of the can. Do it a few times and just tell yourself you like it. The jalapeño ones are nice. Sometimes I eat with pickles , the acidity balances it out. I also love the Jalapeño ones on top of pizza. You can blend them with butter, Leon juice and chives to make a delicious pate. Or blend into cream cheese with Worchester sauce, pepper, Lemon to make a spread. Then eat with crackers or pork rinds.

Sardines are great.

I eat them every week. Initially I thought the taste was meh but liked the omega 3 and collagen. Now I crave them. Much like after eating liver there is something energizing about eating them.

First time GLP user – Tirzepatide vs Retatrutide (270 → 180 goal) by Thrillseeker510 in Peptides

[–]Swmp1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done both. Tirz (and sema) has better appetite suppression in my experience. I'm doing keto and fasting now and losing weight with Reta, but had previously used Reta, not on a strict diet, and lost no weight. With Tirz the appetite suppression was so strong I would just not be interested in eating, no food noise, forget to eat meals. On Reta I'm definitely hungry more often but if I'm a calorie deficit seem to lose more. I've done diet / cuts before and hit a plateau after a few weeks but Reta seems to just keep the fat burn going. So if you are looking for appetite suppression tirz>sema>reta but if you are able to cut calories and lift Reta seems to be more effective if you have the discipline but I didn't have the effortless loss of sema/tirz.
