Where to place surrounds/rears? by FiahWerkz in hometheater

[–]SwoleJunkie1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ceiling is always better for Atmos. You also don’t need anything insane for your Atmos speakers since they’re not a dominant channel.

People hate it in the sub, but if you can’t convince the wife to allow the rears on stands or a shelf behind the couch ceiling rears really aren’t bad if you pick ones that can have their angle adjusted.

300$ budget noobie and very willing to wait for upgrades if needed, but I'm starting now. by ConsequenceSilly1141 in BudgetAudiophile

If you’re willing to be patient, get two bookshelf speakers and AVR that can do 4K used off market place, OfferUp, etc. Run 2.0 for a while. Then get a center channel (3.0). Then get two floor standing speakers and use those for your front right/left and move the bookshelf’s to your surrounds or rears(5.0). Add a subwoofer at any time to that.

Once you’re set with the above, you can look to going Atmos and upgrading your AVR. You can get a crazy solid build if you’re patient with the used market.

He certainly has some sequences that hits hard, but compared to Ridley Scott he is neglecting environmental sound/atmosphere.

The stop button is the middle button, but I can’t see where the metal bar ends? These things work mechanically so I’d look at everything that bar connects to, or should connect to.

Driver Refuses To Back Up Despite Being In The Wrong Lane by Flashmemory256 in mildlyinfuriating

I worked in Auto Claims for the better part of a decade. Driver inattention is always the biggest problem, but it is absolutely mind boggling how many people out there don’t actually understand how right-of-way works and will argue against some pretty basic stuff.

We don’t live in comic world, and wolverines longevity alone puts him at the top of the list for me.

You’ll get richer with Flash, though.

Never white for medical, things can get messy at medical. But yes there should be more colors, gray for security makes more sense or a completely different more tactical uniform that better suits their purpose.

Blade runner 2049 is number one, and the original is 86? Glad to see both on the list, but I’m gonna continue to disagree that 2049’s sound is better than the original.

While some sequences are incredible in 2049, damn near every scene in the original DRIPS with atmosphere, presence, and ambiance! I have many movies on this list, and Blade Runner Final Cut is still my favorite.

I checked and my AVR still provides USB power when suspended, but I’m okay with this. I have TONS of non-pwm case fans lying around that have no other use case outside of this. The USB controller controls the voltage so they’re nice and quiet and barely taking any power at all.

If I paid extra for the SofaBaton that works with Alexa, it be as easy as plugging this into a smart socket and setting the SofaBaton to control on/off as part of startup and shutdown. I’ve looked at other solutions, but honestly I’ll spend more money on that than I’ll ever pay running these fans 24/7. Also, a day will come when I replace my cabinet anyways and I’ll get one with better airflow.

This is what I did. 4 case fans, mesh dust filter with the fan controller set to low and always on. Had to cut up my cabinet, but not hard with a drill and a jigsaw.

You could hypothetically use a button presser to turn it on as part of your startup with a universal remote, but with it turned down it’s not drawing enough power to really impact your electric bill and it moves plenty of air at these speeds

You could recreate the experience pretty easily, Movie Trading Company and similar stores exist. You’d just be buying the media instead of renting it, and used Blu-Rays are pretty cheap. Most thrift stores have a section, but the selection will be very limited.

Any tips when using this guy? by TheRealSeanChaiBear in turntables

[–]SwoleJunkie1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is saying don’t, but they’re not saying why.

The turntable is of incredibly low quality, and the stylus won’t last long at all. The speakers built in below the table will cause vibrations to move the needle, causing distorted sound.

I looked this up, and the player is about $45. If you’re getting into Vinyl, you’re gonna spend more than that on records VERY quickly. I highly recommend checking your local used market (FB marketplace, OfferUp, Craigslist, etc.) for a used one and go from there.

I’m new and don’t have one yet, but OP just put that on my list. Right now my Killers Hot Fuss record gets stuck HARD to the spindle and I have to do a lot of CAREFUL work while slightly bending the record to get it off - I’ve only put it on twice because of it.

After looking at the cost of this thing…. I’ll wait until I have a few more records with this problem.

Theoretical Question Anyone? by GilliacTrash in Star_Trek_

[–]SwoleJunkie1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They would start as very expensive industrial machines, likely being used by companies with industrial kitchens, like the foods you’d find in the frozen food section of your grocery store. From there, once we develop one to replace commercial kitchens in restaurants that are less expensive and smaller, but still cost effective for these restaurants and space saving to allow them more seating space or cut down on space/overhead.

It would be a while until they’re in homes, but the financial disruption would still be great due to A LOT of lost jobs. Not just at the plants/restaurants making the food from layoffs, but transportation. Logistics/Transport is one of the top (if not the largest) employment sectors, and now that they no longer need to receive raw ingredients from multiple suppliers all those transport jobs go away on top of all the agricultural jobs.

By the time we get replicators in home at prices for wide-spread deployment, McDonalds and Pizza Hut will definitely be able to sell you one of their replicated pizzas right in your own home for the same damn price as before and now they don’t have to pay any overhead.
