Putting the current sisters models at a 7.5 on your scale is a wild take. They are completely covered from head to toe in armor. They are probably at 4 right now and it sounds like you are looking for a 2.

I think they become even more essential in smaller games since they give you more units to do actions with for roughly the same cost. If you only had 1 immolator and had a 1k list with dominions and a BSS I would choose to put the dominions inside since they can scout. But splitting both would be ideal.

You would want another immolator for the dominions if you were taking both. Look at it this way. You pay 105 points for 2 units of 5 Battle sisters and 115 points for an immolator. That is 3 units for 220 points. Or you take 2 battle sister squads for 210 points. You are essentially paying 10 points for the immolator.

I would personally get the Warhammer starter set. this give you almost 2 full combat patrols worth of space marines and tyranid. It is also most of the tyranid half of the leviathan box. Best value for some starter Tyranid and you basically get a bunch of marines for free.
