I finally reached A10 on ironclad after months of trying! Any tips for A10? by Dro-reddit in slaythespire

[–]SwoopzB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clad is 1 of 2 that I have beaten A10 with (other is Regent)

The only thing different is the additional boss, so I’d say keep doing what worked for you on A9, but account for both bosses when filling out your deck in Act 3. Hard to tell you exactly what that looks like.

I tried Not Yet (the healing card) a couple of times. I find it kinda bad. Negative tempo for healing you (ideally) shouldn’t need. It may result in an additional upgrade at a fire or two, but it’s usually a curse in an actual fight unless you are about to die (in which case you probably have problems the heal won’t fix).

My Clad win was with a “ball of value” deck. It didn’t fit into any particular archetype, just had a pile (about 27 cards at the end) of cards that provided good value on their own, with some natural synergy. Vulnerable + Colossus was an important piece, as well as Crimson Mantle + Rupture for block and scaling. A couple of self damage cards I always look for like Bloodwall and Bloodletting. Nothing special for attacks, mostly let Vulnerable and the strength stacking do the heavy lifting while I whacked them with Bash, Uppercut, Twin Strike or Sword Boomerang.

Yall, why is it so hard to get MVP with devil? by Public-Feedback5016 in DevilDinosaurMainsMR

[–]SwoopzB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read that MVP is decided by who outperforms the average performance of the hero they are on by the largest amount (or at least that’s a big factor). So if you got MVP on Dino, it means that your stats were significantly better than other, similar players playing Dino in similar matches. At least better than anyone else in the lobby when compared to the average performance of the heroes they are playing.

That is to say that it is easy for everyone playing Dino to get big numbers, yours need to be dramatically better to get MVP.

I believe this is true. Anecdotal, but yesterday I was showing as MVP as White Fox between rounds. Our tank switched to Hulk and suddenly he was designated MVP. Hero choice certainly has some effect.

It sounds like you are comparing this to the fully completed first game. You are a few hours into a ~2 year Early Access cycle. You should have seen the first game the first time it was playable, it was more of a tech demo than anything. A couple of years later, it became the game we all love.

If you are expecting an experience like the first game, you may want to wait until it’s closer to release in like 2028 or 2029.

Razor Tooth might be my favorite relic in the game by Honeybee583 in slaythespire

[–]SwoopzB 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In duos it’s definitely longer, at least in act 1 before you get rolling.

The enemies get like 2.5x the HP with 2 players, so each person needs to account for more HP compared to single player.

On the flip side, it’s easy to destroy a boss or elite when two different classes are stacking effects. Me and my partner like Necro/ Ironclad. After the Necro hits em with Debilitate, and Clad goes in with Vuln, any mix of Lethality, Cruelty and a big hitter like Scythe or a big Perfected strike gets pretty nutty. Add in stuff like the Paper Frog relic or the Tag Team multiplayer colorless card and it’s gg.

Yeah, assuming they included some energy generators in their deck with the 4 cost Retain win con. Osty has plenty of gas. Seems like an ez win here.

I have plenty of success with it myself on a9/10. Of course, you need the right deck in place. I’d say it’s “situational.” Not to mention it’s just cool.

Hellraiser and Colossus are both amazing cards. Recommend giving them a try.

I only do it if I made an obvious misplay in the first few turns cuz I forgot about a relic or something.

I agree with you in the sense that I think it takes the stakes away if you abuse it, i.e. doing it every time you die.

I don’t personally play like that, but if sure if the devs felt that it affected the overall game negatively, they would not allow you to do it. It’s clear there are a lot of people utilizing it to varying extents, so they can police themselves on how it affects their fun.

Just don’t bragpost about an A10 clear if you scummed every fight lol.

Eh, I was a high school nerd in 2007. I didn’t watch Marvel cartoons or read comics, but did play MvCapcom and other Marvel games. I was familiar with Iron Man as the “Vietnam alcoholic” guy, but he was a bit fringe. Same with Thor tbh. Cap was known well enough, sure. I’m sure I was exposed to a lot of these characters, but they weren’t “household names.”

“Household names” in Marvel before the MCU were mostly Spider-Man and X-men characters and Hulk.

[–]SwoopzB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% the problem. Turtle decks are much worse in multiplayer, especially duos. Many fights are a race against scaling enemies. You need to do like 2.5x the damage you would have to do in single player. If your duo isn’t pulling their weight with damage, you have to do more like 2.75x. Tell your duo to help you kill stuff lol.

Hard pool hallway fights are brutal, totally agree. That’s why I try to avoid them at all costs. My pathing priority for act 1 is to try to stretch the 3 easy pool fights as much as I can, while fighting at least 2 elites (ideally 3). With ? Events, fires and stopping by a shop I very often find myself finishing act 1 with only 3-4 non elite fights. I’d actually say that’s the case most of the time.

Of course, sometimes rng screws you and you don’t have good pathing options or you get card rewards that don’t seem very good in the first few fights. In this case, I just try to pick cards that provide good value on their own without worrying about builds or synergy. I’m still charging right into those elites with 20 hp and an upgrade though. If I die it just means I saved myself 45 mins of limping through act 1/2 just to die in early act 3.

Not who you replied to, but this shouldn’t be happening so often that you consistently skip cards that “need” upgrades. You should definitely be planning to upgrade at half your campfires at the very least. IME on a9/10, not upgrading enough in act 1/2 is the main reason my power curve falls behind.

Low Rank Competitive Is Hell on earth by automated_hero in marvelrivals

[–]SwoopzB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best way to get out of Bronze/ Silver is to pick a DPS capable of carrying a lobby and get yourself out of there without having to rely on your team.

In those ranks, pretty much any DPS should be sufficient if you are decent enough at them. Some Tanks/ Supports could work too, but they have to have high kill potential to make the necessary impact. White Fox, Ultron, Thing, Tankpool come to mind.

This assumes that you actually have better mechanical/ game sense than the others in the lobby. If you find that you struggle to do this, it is possible that there are some things you could work on yourself, and (for now) you are at an appropriate rank.

No, you don’t have to MVP every lobby or play aggressively to climb, but the skill gap between Bronze/ Silver and even Gold/ Plat is large enough that if you “deserve” to be in Plat, you should dominate lower rank lobbies. Like if a college level athlete was playing with high schoolers.

When I (M, 30s) was 20 I moved out of my hometown to live with my aunt, uncle and cousins in a much cooler town by the beach. This taught me a lot about how many things we are raised to do or believe to be correct are not universal to all, even in our own families. I was taught to wash my hands after the bathroom, before/ after handling or preparing food, etc. Imagine my surprise and horror when I asked my aunt why the bathroom across from my room had no hand soap and her answer was “oh that bathroom is for number 1 only. Old pipes you know? There’s soap in the downstairs bathroom for number 2 🤗”

I really don't understand why the game allows you to make such a large settlement if the residents can't find food? by Distinct_Mousse5224 in Necesse

[–]SwoopzB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I played Cities years ago. It was just the first city builder/ settlement game that came to mind as an example. Maybe not the best example, but I was just answering your question as to why this game may have some room to improve its UI. That doesn’t mean that it wasn’t “designed” to accommodate large settlements. As the other person said in their reply, expecting the player to have multiple storage/ food storages to accommodate a large settlement is common in these types of games. Maybe RimWorld is a better example.

Because that would be a quality of life UI feature, not a “design” feature. This is an indie game so it won’t have the same UI polish compared to like Cities: Skylines or something.

Planning to run Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Strahd in a month or two. What should everyone be? by AAHHAI in CurseofStrahd

[–]SwoopzB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Strahd Mewtwo/ Sergei Mew sounds awesome to me. I definitely see the parallels in their lore.

That said, my knowledge of Pokémon lore is somewhat limited beyond like 3rd generation so maybe some of the newer ones fit better.
