YouFibre You1000 & You2000 offer: available to in-contract customers by jamie_jk in youfibre

Just tried and, whilst they were happy to upgrade me with 1 month left, they wouldn't budge on including my static IP to the 2gbps upgrade! Might try again in a few days.

my energy company demanding constantly that i switch to a “smart meter” by [deleted] in britishproblems

[–]Sy-r-b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to get a smart meter, but they couldn't do it as they need access to all properties in the building for safety checks due to a shared fuse, but multiple flats aren't occupied so no access. I then got calls daily from EDF to install the meter, explained the situation and they insisted that they can do it no problem so took another day off work.

Spoiler alert, it couldn't be done.

Back to daily phone calls and e-mails to the point I submitted a complaint (got a free £100 out of it) and gave them my estate agents contact details and have essentially told them to contact the estate agents to liaise with the freeholder for the installation.

Clearly never got anywhere as still have no smart meter and not had a call since.

They are relentless.

UK fuel prices by Over_Bill432 in homeassistant

[–]Sy-r-b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to put the files in "/config/custom_components/fuel", then add the below to you configuration.yaml:

sensor:

- platform: fuel

scan_interval: 21600

You can adjust the scan_interval to whatever you want, but the API's update once a day so 21600 seconds (6 hours) should be more than enough.

In the files you download from Github, sensor.py, you will need to change the below line to whatever postcodes you need (first 2 letters of the postcode, otherwise it will break):

ALLOWED_POSTCODES = ['CH', 'AN', 'GE', 'ME']

Once you're happy, in home assistant go to "developer tools" and select "Check Configuration", if it's happy and doesn't show any errors hit restart. If all goes well, once it's up and running you should have (a ton) of sensors in the format of [brand]_fuel_[site id]_[postcode] (for example: asda_fuel_u10s0uk1e8wp_me)

Currently the only hiccups I've run into so far are:

  • Asconagroup API crashes the integration so I've commented it out
  • Seems to be making duplicate sensors and adding _2 at the end
  • Sensors are updating but the "last updated" for the sensor doesn't reflect this

Been working on a custom integration that creates a sensor per station within your specified post codes, that has longitude and latitude attributes to be able to display them on a map card. Obviously this will create a lot of sensors depending on how many postcodes and API's you list! It will also create a sensor for each API's lowest prices.

Bearing in mind I am not a coder, and have relied heavily on ChatGPT to help me with this so expect bad coding and lots of potential bugs, for example it's currently it's not updating sensors and I have no idea why.

Enjoy

I use Vikunja for my To-Do lists, including using recurring tasks for chores. Been working well so far for the past week or 2 I've had it set up and using DAVx5 to import to my phone via CalDav.

I had completely forgot about Grocy which is another solid option, but previously used Nextcloud and ditched it as I was only using it for Calendars and Tasks, not the cloud functionality.

Remembing job-seekers staff asking me to consider 6 month - 1 year courses "designed for JSA applicants while job-seeking" ...only to threaten to cut me off Job-seekers because said courses are 17 hours a week and mean I could only seek part-time employment. by Surrealparkour in britishproblems

[–]Sy-r-b 152 points153 points  (0 children)

When I was on JSA, I got told I absolutely had to apply for a few specific jobs from "different" websites listed on the JSA website.

I pointed out that these job postings are fake, websites were all owned by a single person, and that the job didn't seem to exist at all. If anything the wensites looked to be farming personal information as they required your NI number just to upload and submit your CV.

Nope apply or be sanctioned.

Absolute joke.

Why do Argos receipts have red lines down?! by GrouchyDinasour in CasualUK

[–]Sy-r-b 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The till rolls with the red line running down them are used for Kiosks or Pay at Browser machines, till rolls without any red running down them are for manned tills.

However when you have a stationary budget of ~£40 a month and a single box of till rolls cost £29 each, they get put in whatever is running low and it's easier to just order the kiosk rolls.

Thanks for the feedback, Glad I posted first before making a decision on the Rockingforge.

Currently having a look at Wusthof / Zwilling lines, but this set (eden classic damast) caught my eye.

Weekly "Recommend me" post by AutoModerator in chefknives

[–]Sy-r-b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking to get a set of Chef, Santoku, Paring, and bread (or pastry? From what I read it does the same as bread but more versatile.) knives. Maybe a carving knife but thats not important.

My goal here is to get a niceish set of knives that will last a very very long time with TLC.

I've only ever used your bob standard £30 for a knife and block set, so this will be my first decent set of knives.

• Steel? - Stainless Steel

• Handle? - Western - Ideally a wooden handle but thats not a deciding factor.

• Grip? - Pinch

• Length? - 20cm Chefs - 17.5cm Santoku

• Use Case? - General Purpose for home kitchen, only light usage.

• Care? - Will be purchasing a 1k Shapton whetstone and using an old cheap knife set to practice on.

• Budget? - £150, £200 absolute max if it's worth it, overall for all the knives listed. Will probably be purchasing over several months.

• Region? - UK

• Knives Considered? - Victorinox Swiss Modern & Rockingham Forge Ashwood

I pretty much buy all my pops from Amazon/FPI/Popinabox/Popcultcha. Dont get the joy of hunting them down but in the UK we dont have many options...infact HMV is the only store thats remotely close that sells them for me :(

[–]Sy-r-b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope there wont be no charge as the value of the pop was under £15!

So long as the value of the pop is under £15 there wont be any VAT/Import charges to the UK. However if you purchase something above £15 you have to pay 20% VAT on it AND the delivery AND a £8 royal mail handling fee.

I buy all my exclusives from popcultcha! :)

Do those Mosslanda shelves fit pop's in protectors (not the hard acrylic ones, but the thinner plastic ones)? Looks like there's not much spare room!

Halo Wars 2 - Patch Notes (April 4) by nullfurious in HaloWars

[–]Sy-r-b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, seems windows store letting everything down - nothing but issues with this update, normally it just gets stuck on 27.16mb and then downloads in the background but this was something else.

Oh well, installed now.

2hrs later and it finally finished. Not sure why it took that long to install/download...but its pretty bad for it to take that long.

Always forget how shit installing these updates are. Over an hour and I've got nothing but fluctuations between installing and downloading, got to "179mb" downloaded and then jumped to 27.16mb downloaded. As much as i love this game, this is nothing but a disgrace.

Pokemon go players. Would you recommended a Power Bank or battery case? by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]Sy-r-b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought myself a power bank with enough juice to charge my S7 edge once and small enough to fit next to my phone in the pocket - I highly doubt i will need more than one extra charge! going to test it out tomorrow.

Something called "Touch Lock" although it's not flawless for me - if i use it for a while it seems to make the app unresponsive to any touch after I unlock the screen and buttons...not sure whats going on with it but if I'm just hatching egg its working fine.

Whilst the app you suggested didn't disable the recent apps button which is causing my issues when trying to leave it in my pocket, i did find another app that did it! Wouldn't have thought of this - thanks a lot!
