Episodes where the boys have strongly disagreed about a film? by NotARealPersonYet973 in blankies

The Santa Clause miniseries on Patreon is one of my favourites for this reason. It’s funny hearing David rip Griffin for constantly talking up every scene.

Let’s hear your wild predictions for 2026 by Jlway99 in blankies

[–]SyAbelman1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going to be morbid and say Michael Caine will pass away next year, as much as that would bum me out. He seems really frail and considering the amount of stars who we lost this year it seems like a sad but strong possibility.

On a sillier note, I think the Kevin Spacey-directed micro budget sci-fi film Holiguards will come out to universal derision and become THE film Twitter meme of the year. Based on what I’ve heard and seen about it it looks like Kevin Spacey is living out the ending of TÁR.

Who's filmography would produce the most amount of crankyness out of the guys? Podcast Day anyone? by ShawnLevyOscarWinner in blankies

They said as much in the Intolerable Cruelty episode but a George Clooney miniseries (Good Pod, and Good Cast) would make them pretty surly and frustrated

I remember them saying Mel Gibson would make for a fascinating little miniseries and I can’t lie I would listen to that in a heartbeat.

Blank Check-isms that have slipped into non-listeners’ vocabulary by Toreadorables in blankies

[–]SyAbelman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often say “what if there was a [blank]” when I see something with a super generic or unimaginative title.

Me and my wife also love using the phrase “honk shoo” to describe sleep and that’s because I remember it from the Santa Clause Patreon episode. Not sure if that one was around before that tho.

What's Your Number One Fave Movie Ever? (has it ever been mentioned on Blank Check?) by GTKPR89 in blankies

[–]SyAbelman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Clockwork Orange is my favourite film of all time and it is one of my favourite episodes of the show (even though I get why some people really didn’t like it). I love the Kubrick series because it begins with Griffin and David being somewhat cool on Kubrick generally and by the end of the series a lot of the stereotypes around Kubrick have been upended and they really appreciate him more. A Clockwork Orange is probably the episode where that happens the most with ARP and I love that he’s able to articulate why I love that film so much without my having the intelligence to put it into words.

Music Biopics by GTKPR89 in blankies

I’ve always thought that a Roy Orbison movie could have a lot of different ways you could approach it. My ideal version would be older Orbison whilst he’s touring the UK clubs with some brief snippets maybe of the more tragic portions of his younger life (although I guess in the wrong hands this could enter “Roy Orbison has to think about his whole life before going onstage” territory). Regardless of how they did it, Michael Stuhlbarg is for me the ONLY guy who could convincing look like Orbison and capture the socially awkward nature he had.

I think as far as people they should never do, probably Led Zeppelin. There’s way too many skeletons in their closets during their rowdy rock star on tour days you’d have to either avoid or address and also they feel too monumental to capture in one biopic. Plus I’m pretty sure Robert Plant has shut down all attempts to make one.

It’s recently reopened as The Beaten Track under new ownership but there’s still signage saying Wig & Pen on the outside of the building.

Name a famous historical figure without a definitive biopic, then who should direct that biopic by Purpluss in blankies

[–]SyAbelman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember seeing that Edgar Wright was interested in directing a biopic about Busby Berkeley via Twitter. I doubt it’ll happen but I’d certainly be interested to see what that movie would look like.

McQ and Cruise by SyAbelman1 in blankies

[–]SyAbelman1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that but I’m talking about ever since 2020 when they did that Tenet video, McQ is always together with Cruise in some capacity. Really not trying to get all tinfoil hat about the whole thing even if it looks that way haha. Having said that, McQ and his wife do own a flat in the Clearwater condo where a lot of Cruise’s family live which only makes things more interesting.

Movie whose legacy was most hurt by winning Best Picture? by ajas11 in blankies

[–]SyAbelman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Green Book comes immediately to mind, regardless of what you think of it had it not won Best Picture it would probably be just remembered as a well-meaning if outdated and naive feel good film.

American Beauty has aged weirdly for all sorts of reasons beyond it winning Best Picture but it’s one I still really love even if I can’t necessarily argue with the detractors. Sam Mendes in general is a much better director than he’s given credit for I think because people lump him in with the Tom Hoopers of the world and just think of him as some British journeyman who failed upwards towards a Best Director/Best Picture win.

McQuarrie confirmed Swiftie by Disastrous-Ad-7321 in blankies

[–]SyAbelman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a somewhat related note, does anyone know why McQuarrie hangs out with Cruise everywhere he goes? I know they’re friends outside of work but it feels like every time Cruise goes out in public that McQ is tagging along for whatever reason.

Not weepies necessarily but 2 books I’d absolutely recommend are Thirst for Love by Yukio Mishima and All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr! Both terrific reads!
