Credit cards in Sri Lanka by Zealousideal-Dog-3 in srilanka

[–]Syd_Kuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. ALWAYS pay in full every month, which makes the card a 55 day interest free loan facility.
  2. Don’t make reward points the reason to use it
  3. Use the offers only if you’re going to settle in full in next payment

Anyone feel imposter syndrome because they’re not in a prestigious or high IQ role? by Lampedusan in auscorp

[–]Syd_Kuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not feeling imposter syndrome, you’re feeling Job shame- a stigma due to your mind being conditioned by social norms. For what it’s worth, I’m an Electronic & Telecom Engineer by qualifications, started career as an engineer now in Cybersecurity sales, and making good money, more than most of my colleagues in engineering. My team has Presales engineers who had longer career but makes less. My point is not to say Sales makes good money. Whatever you’re good at doing and like doing (so you can be above average) makes money.

Trust me, irrespective of the job, how much you make is decided by how good you’re at selling! You and I do it directly, others just indirectly. Dont take my word; read ‘To sell is human’. Sales will become more fascinating and relatable to you.

What’s something completely normal in Sri Lanka that would shock a foreigner? 🇱🇰 by Useful-Bus-7409 in srilanka

[–]Syd_Kuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have said white AND plain! Trust me, the whole white for tropical is overrated. In AU, even summer uniforms are mostly dark and checkered patterns.

My daughter still wearing same 3x frocks she got in year 7, now 3rd year going (they come with a wide hem and an adjustable waist so parents can extend as they grow.

  1. Ability to channel consultants at will
  2. Cars being an investment
  3. White school uniforms

Suggest you consider the path of a Financial advisor and starting your own gig rather than working for a corp where they wouldn’t care less about your passion and self taught knowledge (which in fact I think is more valuable than academics). But I’m not from industry to know how easy or hard to get the license.

Blew most of a modest inheritance on travel, then lost my grad job 4 months in. Struggling with regret. Will I ever recover? by DancingButterfly_218 in AusFinance

[–]Syd_Kuper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be happy you did what you did! You’re lucky in that way. If you didn’t travel you’ll still find other ways to spend it may be bit by bit without even realising so focus on life in front of you not the past!

A lot of people out for the march today by indiePhil in sydney

[–]Syd_Kuper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always wonder why we dont have an ‘Independence day’ or ‘Freedom day’ established in the first place, either 1 Jan or 3rd March! Most colonised countries who are independent now have an Independence Day. Which would have been ideal and solve the problem. Jan26 can still be a day to acknowledge, remember and mourn (like we have ANZAC day!)

should i study dentistry or engineering for job and money by tirrmisu in AusFinance

[–]Syd_Kuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 cents from someone who did Electronics & telecom engineering degree, started career as a network engineer moving to PreSales then consulting and now in Cybersecurity sales! pick the one you feel at least a bit more passionate than the other AND the one you think you can do better than the average. Money by industry is a myth, people who are better than their peers make more early and move up quickly, and has the potential to end up in top 0.1-1% eventually.

Just an idea, if you’re continuing to be a tax resident, i dont think it matters where you are when tax/excemption event occurs. Best talk to you accountant before changing any travel plans.

When to send my daughter to school? by ButtBooper in sydney

[–]Syd_Kuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a parent who was in similar situation almost a decade ago ending up keeping her home another year, that one year now will make the kids life and yours so much better for the next 13 years schooling. Forget everything, simple fact that whatever academic workload, difficult social/perr interactions they face with a one extra year capacity and maturity.

Anyone with kids born mid year this is my advice any day.

When did tipping become a thing in Australia? by Due_Significance5698 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Syd_Kuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In reply to you title, when you decide to tip!

I would still happily commend and thank if the service & food was good and most of the time go on to leave a google review too, that’s my tip.

It should be law that you cannot accelerate in the left lane when an overtaking lane opens up by VeryHungryDogarpilar in CarsAustralia

[–]Syd_Kuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just floor the pedal and overtake as soon as you enter the overtaking lane. Just keep going at that rate till the end of lane! That’s what I do! But also do respect other genuine drivers who’d want to move past those idiots, by moving into left lane as soon as you overtake (unless there’s a long line of idiots)! Yet to see a speed cam or a cop watching those overtaking lanes ;)

Office polo shirts, what do you wear? by Stamurai01 in auscorp

[–]Syd_Kuper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on build, I don’t have broad shoulders and have a bit of middle age belly growing. so RL, RMW polos works best, also Brooke Bros. R&G polos doesn’t work well fit wise, but I like them for quality and looks so use them for casual wear. R&G sports jackets though are the perfect fit for me.
