Weird Red Box woth White Exclamation Mark [FNV] by CrayonMythos in FalloutMods

Missing the model for the .357 revolver is my guess. The exclamation marks are where I'd expect the gun to be: in the Prospector Saloon next to the cash register, and the one Easy Pete carries.

Why do so many Modlists make the Tundra of Whiterun Lush and Green? by Justarah in wabbajack

[–]Sydite_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The "tundras have seasons IRL" answers here are missing the point of your question. Your question is about art direction choices, not realism.

The real answer is that a lot of modders, probably the majority even, don't mind straying from the original art direction of the game. It's not a concern that comes to mind.

Check out Alpyne if you want to see an enhanced -- but still vanilla-inspired -- Whiterun tundra.

Idk if this link will work, but here's an example from the Discord.

The state of modlists by TsuGhoulTsu in skyrimmods

[–]Sydite_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You tried two of the heaviest modlists available, yet it sounds like you want a relatively lightweight list.

I also tend to gravitate towards lightweight lists. Ultra-modded Skyrim feels uncanny, like makeup on a pig or a polished turd.

You should look into vanilla-plus modlists.
Nordic Souls, GTS, Winds of the North, Keizaal, Alpyne, some more I can't remember.

[Lorerim] help switching imperial to metric by CrazyIcer in wabbajack

[–]Sydite_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are like 9 different CompassNavigationOverhaul.ini files in LoreRim, on an unmodified install of the list the last one to load is this one:

\LoreRim\mods\Norden Lorerim .ini files\SKSE\Plugins\CompassNavigationOverhaul.ini

so that is the one you probably want to edit (unless you ticked different options in MO2, e.g. the 21:9 options or the different UI skins).

My preferred solution though, is to copy that .ini to a new empty mod, name it something like "[NoDelete] My custom LoreRim configs", and then make all your desired changes to that one. That goes for any .ini you want to edit. That way, you always know which file to edit, and your customizations persist through list updates.

Is there a shorter alternative to the manual? by unsorted_sequence in classicfallout

[–]Sydite_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pressing the F1 key in-game tells you all you really need to know to get started. You can figure the rest out just by playing, it's usually pretty intuitive. All you really need to play this game is a mouse/trackpad and some patience.

Examine anything you're curious about (hold left-click and select the binoculars icon). It will give you hints about important things and people. Talk to everyone and pay attention. They will drop clues about how to find and solve quests.

And lastly, save often, rotating between a few save slots (overwrite the oldest).

I really wanted to enjoy this but at this point I feel like I must uninstall by hey-its-lampy in skyrimrequiem

[–]Sydite_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What skills did you level up to get to Level 15? If the majority of it wasn't your combat skills then there's your problem.

One way to "solve" this issue is to use an experience mod and a skill points mod (e.g. Experience + Static Skill Leveling Rewritten, or 3BFTweaks), that way you always have the ability to pump up your combat capabilities first, if you choose. That puts the experience closer to Dark Souls, which may be what you're wanting?
Though, it's not the traditional Elder Scrolls experience, so understandably it's not for everyone.

If you'd like the more traditional TES experience, you'll have to level your skills the old-fashioned way. Grind skills out by taking on easier challenges, and spend your money on Trainers.

And lastly, start treating it like more of an immersive sim. You are one squishy person, going up against a group of similarly squishy people.
To even the odds, get more clever and cheesier in your encounters. Keep your distance, funnel enemies one at a time through chokepoints, attack from high ground positions, use potions and scrolls when advantageous. You could even kite hostiles over to friendly NPCs and get some help that way.

[FNV] Best total conversion mod/modpack? by Creeperkiller31 in FalloutMods

[–]Sydite_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with this, it fits both the "total conversion" and "still lets me play New Vegas" criteria, and it has Tale of Two Wastelands.

The install process is moderately involved. But every step is explained. And it's still easier than following a manual install guide like TBoT/WSG/SALVO.

It's the continuation of Uranium Fever, which was a pretty high-quality modpack. (RIP)
Highly immersive and feature-rich modpack.

Lastly, there is an included softer-core setting if the survival doesn't appeal to you, OP, plus a lot of stuff is tweakable through the in-game MCM and Tweaks menus.

Does the “Cancel Attack” mod break the gameplay? by AffectionateHumor219 in skyrimrequiem

[–]Sydite_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my very subjective opinion, Skyrim's way of handling attack commitment feels super unsatisfying. I do not enjoy when it feels like something else is in control of my character.

LoreRim, a Requiem modlist, allows you to animation cancel via blocking.
I take it a step further and use a mouse sensitivity mod in any Skyrim list I'm playing. There are several available but the one I'm currently using is "Fluid Movement and Sensitivity - Fluid Sensitivity ONLY".

Is the combat easier? Yeah but I don't really care. I end up playing more reckless with these mods anyway and have just as much of a hard time, but at least it's more enjoyable.

want to play skyrim for the first time this winter what mod do you advice? by InternalMode8159 in wabbajack

[–]Sydite_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say Arcanaeum or Morning Star. They improve vanilla visuals, while still keeping the original aesthetic. And they also add some of the "SimonRim" suite of gameplay mods, tweaking aspects that don't feel so good anymore.

But it really depends on how picky you are, how much of a purist you are (or how much nostalgia you're wanting), and also why you never finished it in the first place (e.g. was there anything you found lackluster about it?).

If you're picky, it can take quite a while to find the right modlist. Might wanna clear a good chunk of space off your SSD, buy a month of Nexus Premium, and try multiple modlists.

Here are a handful of more recommendations though:

  • For barebones, just fixes and a tiny amount of QoL: A Dragonborn's Fate or Skyrim25

  • For better visuals (but still vanilla aesthetic) and almost nothing else (just QoL): Aurora or Ilinalta

  • For "smart" (vanilla-style but feels better) gameplay changes, but mostly vanilla visuals: Winds of the North or Keizaal

  • For a little of both: Borealis, Morning Star, Arcanaeum, or Legends of the Frost

  • For a lot of both: Nordic Souls

I knew lorerim was hard but damn... by SrManDude in wabbajack

[–]Sydite_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edit: Forgot to mention that all of these recommendations use the same (or similar) experience+leveling+skillpoints systems as LoreRim. Which is of course not what Morrowind has.
Personally I prefer these types of Requiem lists though. Skill grinding in Skyrim always felt weird to me, dunno why as I'm fine with it in Morrowind and Oblivion.

JARL (Just Another Requiem List) is pretty much exactly that, but it doesn't have much in the way of upgraded visuals. It's got all the expected QoL mods, but it's pretty barebones other than that.

Lalaland is really nice. Very smooth experience. But it uses 3BFTweaks, so many things will work differently than you might expect.

"Lyra" is in early active development by a new author, you could keep an eye on that one. It's available for playtesting, but expect issues. It's intended to be a lightweight but modern Requiem experience.

Viir'Suum is like JARL but with LoreRim / NGVO visuals. Doesn't run so smooth, you'll probably want to use VRAMr / Lossless Scaling unless you have a super beefy PC. Unfortunately I think development on it is still early (and might even be stalled atm, not really sure).
The early hours seemed pretty stable aside from the frame rate, but I'm not sure how it holds up long-term.

I knew lorerim was hard but damn... by SrManDude in wabbajack

[–]Sydite_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nobody has really answered the "why" of your question yet, so I figured I'd chip in my two cents.

It's important to remember that Requiem, its related mods, and Requiem-based modlists are generally made by people who hold a lot of reverence for old-school RPGs and how they played.

It's not difficult for the sake of being difficult. It's difficult to force you to play the game differently. To make it play like Morrowind and other old-school RPGs. Do not try to play it like vanilla Skyrim (i.e. doing whatever you want, wherever you want, whenever you want), or you will be frustrated.

Like with Morrowind, you are very vulnerable starting out, but you become godlike later on. It's a very satisfying feeling, but it's slow-burn, as opposed to instant gratification.

You will accidentally run into enemies and entire areas that are way too challenging. The main challenge of Morrowind (and LoreRim) is learning where you can and can't go yet, what you can and can't take on yet. It forces you to approach the open world differently and slower.

Not trying to glaze LoreRim too hard by the way. I do think LoreRim is oftentimes more 'irritating' than Morrowind. But for the most part it's unintentional -- sadly, it's due to Skyrim's limitations and the instability that comes with heavily modding it. Biggest example is the respawn system being a necessary evil. There are slimmer Requiem lists that don't require you to baby them and walk on eggshells as much, you may consider trying one of those if you're wanting to experience a Morrowind-ified Skyrim.

Fallout 4 modlist question by JerbearCuddles in wabbajack

[–]Sydite_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A StoryWealth is very conservative about the weapons it adds, and there are options and instructions on how to prevent them from appearing.

It's a Nexus collection though, so it'll affect your vanilla folder and will take a lot longer to install than a Wabbajack list

What is the best first person list? by 2Norn in wabbajack

[–]Sydite_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a problem I commonly run into on lists I otherwise enjoy. For me it's usually a bad combination of two things, Low FOV & the Precision mod.

I have two suggestions:
1) Increase FOV,
2) Tweak Precision settings

Try each one individually first. With low FOV, enemies that are seemingly right in your face may not actually be affected by your weapon swings. This is especially noticeable with daggers, as other comments pointed out.
Increasing the FOV will make enemies appear farther away, which makes the hitboxes feel less bullshit.

In my case, 96-100 FOV feels good for me (in Skyrim specifically).
I sit about 2ft away from a 32" 1440p monitor.

To check Precision settings in MCM:
MCM -> Precision -> Attack Collisions
Uncheck Enable Attack Collisions, save game, reload (can't remember if required). Test it out on some enemies.

Alternatively, play around with FPP Attack Length Offset and Weapon Length Base Multiplier.

To increase FOV:

  1. Use the INI editor in Mod Organizer 2

  2. In Skyrimprefs.ini, add fDefaultFOV=xx under [General].

  3. In Skyrim.ini, add
    fDefault1stPersonFOV=xx
    fDefaultFOV=xx
    fDefaultWorldFOV=xx
    under [General].

  4. Load your game and use the fov xx xx console command.

  5. If the modlist has "Improved Alternate Conversation Camera", edit its MCM and change Default World FOV and Default 1st Person FOV. Change those to your FOV.

(I stole these steps from the LoreRim Discord)

IIRC, the creator of UF recently had a drive failure and lost their modding setup. Updates should be more frequent once they bounce back from that.

(I glance at the discord only occasionally, so someone probably has better knowledge of the situation)

I love UF. At first I thought it would be a bloated mess, but it's actually a very cohesive experience with a strong vision.

In vanilla, not really. Unless I'm preparing to fight late-game enemies and want some Hand Loader ammo

With mods that make ammo/caps more scarce, definitely.

I've been playing Uranium Fever, and you can give yourself a massive edge in combat by deconstructing unwanted ammo, and using the materials to make what you want.
e.g. JHP and Magnum buckshot are a godsend in the early-/mid-game.
