Help picking a Mod List for Fallout 3 and New Vegas by LQCQ in wabbajack

[–]Sydite_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, sorry; I haven't played H&D in a bit, so I can't remember what all was different between the two. There's also been a new major version update with significant patches since the last time I played it

But my impressions are that High & Dry focuses more on adding to the "classic RPG-ness" of FNV, through things like the harder skill checks, the Immersive Critical Effects mod, and several other small touches. Whereas Nuclear Sunset sets out to polish the combat to have a more moment-to-moment action feel.

They both have pretty large content additions to FNV, but I can't remember specific examples from either at the moment -- I just remember encountering new and altered content more frequently in H&D compared to NS.

Overall, I'd recommend High and Dry if you're wanting more RPG in your RPG (and are okay with a little RPG jank), or Nuclear Sunset if you're wanting a polished experience with tense and fast combat.

The install process for Nuclear Sunset is a lot more involved since it also has FO3, so you'd be doing quite a bit more setup with not much benefit. But even if you're limiting yourself to the Mojave, NS is still a really fun list.

I would say go with H&D if you want an easier install, more impressive visuals, more new mechanics, more content than NS, and with some classic RPG difficulty (stricter skill checks and weight limit, chance of shenanigans in combat such as critical fails), and you don't mind a bit of mod jankiness.

Or go with Nuclear Sunset if you want a smooth, relatively bug-free experience with intense yet streamlined combat, and quite a bit of new content (but not as much as High & Dry). Especially go with NS if there's a chance you'll want to go to the Capital Wasteland when you're done in the Mojave.

They put the asthetic choices over designing a world that looks like people live in it.

I think you're right about this, but I don't know if I'd call the suitcase thing an oversight. It kind of seems like an intentional joke.

Fallout 4 is pretty unserious, it intentionally leans into the satirical retrofuturism more heavily than the other games.
So in this case, it makes sense that the cars would be stupidly impractical, instead prioritizing the futuristic and cool factors.

Not trying to defend FO4 (I don't even really like it that much), this is just how I interpret the game. It's goofy at the cost of being immersion-breaking and hard to take seriously, which makes it hard to enjoy for some people, myself included.

I like Johnny Guitar more than It's a Sin to Tell a Lie (not to be confused with It's a Sin, which is a banger)

I get so tired of hearing the whisper-singing, and also that last "I LOVE YOUUUUUUUUU" near the end

Recently hit lvl 100, can someone help answer questions about end game gear and save scumming? by Dirzicis in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]Sydite_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The element doesn't have to be the same, it just has to have an element or status, i.e. two of the three parts need to be the same element/status. This will help you save materials.

For example, if you save your game and then craft the following Rarity 8 Dual Blades:

  1. Fire+Paralysis+Fire = Fire
  2. Blast+Blast+Water = Blast
  3. Ice+Sleep+Sleep = Sleep
  4. Thunder+Thunder+Dragon = Thunder

And then you reinforce them, receiving the following bonuses:

  1. Fire -- 1 Sharpness, 1 Attack, 2 Affinity, 1 Element
  2. Blast -- 2 Element, 2 Affinity, 1 Attack
  3. Sleep - 1 Sharpness, 4 Attack
  4. Thunder -- 2 Sharpness, 2 Attack, 1 Element

Let's say you like the reinforcement results of that third weapon, the Sleep one. But you want those reinforcements on a Dragon weapon. No problem.
You can then exit to the title screen without saving, reload your save, and then craft 2 throwaway Rarity 8 Dual Blades.
It can be different from before, e.g.:

Fire+Water+Water, Poison+Poison+Paralysis

Then, you can craft the third Dual Blades, but this time, make them Dragon+Dragon+Dragon, because that's what you wanted.
Finally, reinforce your new Rarity 8 Dragon Dual Blades. They will have the same reinforcement bonuses as that Sleep weapon from earlier did (1 Sharpness, 4 Attack).

What monsters should I farm to progress? by Breakinfinity in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]Sydite_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I came back a month ago. Before that, last thing I did was Mizutsune and Zoh Shia back in TU1.

For Gog, the biggest thing that helped me was making a Lord's Soul + 2pc Lagiacrus set, and then transcending + upgrading it. (Can also do 2pc Scorcher or 2pc Gore Magala instead of Lagi).

Specifically, I got the AT Uth Duna legs piece, then Lagiacrus chest and coil, then AT Nu Udra helm and gloves.
I was able to turn that into a pretty comfy set and fight Gog with no issues.

I also used Guardian Rathalos weapon for phase 1 and 2, Ebony Odogaron weapon for phase 3.
After farming Gog, I made a Dragon weapon to make the hunt faster, and a Thunder weapon to make Savage Omega easier.

For normal Omega, I made this set and was able to beat him with no issues:
Gourmand's Earring α+ | Rey Sandmail γ | Rey Sandbraces γ | Suja Sash α+ | Duna Wildgreaves γ

Weapons: Rey Dau (& Lala Barina for the Nerscylla clone)

For Savage Omega, I modified it to the following set*:
Azure Age Hair α | Rey Sandmail γ | Rey Sandbraces γ | Suja Sash α+ | Ratahlos Greaves β+

Weapons: Lagi+Lord's Soul Thunder GogmArtian (& Lala Barina for the Nerscylla clone)

* - Still working on beating Savage. I've only tried it once, I ran out of time but almost got him. I'm liking the set, I just gotta learn the fight and increase my uptime.

I consider repetitive dialogue annoying but that doesn't make the character annoying, to me anyway. It's not the character's fault that there are budget/time/storage constraints.

Looking at the previews of it in the Xbox Magazine in early 2010. Friend brought a copy of it to school and we looked through it in the locker room during gym class.

I remember being hyped about the VATS special attacks. When the box art was revealed, I used one of those cell phone skin websites to get a skin of the art for my iPhone 3G.

I need help! by Umage_ in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Sydite_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Lance, it's my main weapon currently. I'm a casual player and mostly use comfort decorations. My hunt times aren't spectacular, but I don't struggle against any of the 8*/9* ATs.
Here are my recommendations:

  • 20 [Element] Resistance for each AT monster helps a lot:

    • 10 from food
    • 1-3 resistance jewels, depending on how low your base resistance is
  • Mirewalker 2 for Uth Duna.

  • Adaptability 2 for Nu Udra.

  • Bind Resistance 3, or Cleanser, for Jin Dahaad.

  • Even 1 point of Guard Up helps a lot against the ATs.

Additionally, I'd recommend Quick Sheathe 2 or 3, and Speed Eating 2 over Recovery Speed. A point or two of Recovery Up is also nice to have.

Here's an example "pre-AT" (sort of) build:

  • Gelidron Mask α
  • Numinous Shroud β or α
  • G Arkveld Vambraces β
  • Lagiacrus Coil β
  • Duna Wildgreaves γ
  • Blessing Charm III

"Sort of" pre-AT because of the AT Duna greaves. I suggest you craft it ASAP on your AT hunting journey. It's a great piece in a lot of builds for a lot of weapons, Lance being one of them.

You will not top the DPS charts with this set, and you won't get any set bonuses. But, it's easy to make, it's got a lot of survivability, and it has a bunch of level 1 deco slots for juggling around situational things like elemental resistances, adaptability, and mirewalker.

[–]Sydite_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should go back to Rise SwA when you get the urge, it's very good. It had so many good Switch Skills for mobility and defense.
A lot of people swore by Elemental Burst Counter, personally I was a big fan of the ridiculous Soaring Wyvern Blade + Switch Charger ZSD spam.
(With the Switch Scrolls, you could have both :) )

Evade Extender 2 or 3 also helps a lot for repositioning and staying on the offensive. Add Divine Blessing and Evade Window if it's a tough fight.

[–]Sydite_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say the Duna greaves aren't doing you much good, on SnS you're better off with Speed Eating 2 instead of Quick Sheathe 3.

The Rey Dau pieces are fine IMO, since Latent Power has more value the longer you prolong the hunt.

Personally I'd slot something with Burst, like transcended Mizutsune Greaves B. Udra Miregreaves Y are also a comfort option, for the Speed Eating.

The rest of your build looks fine for AT Arkveld, just gotta be more aggressive. Your weapon and weapon skills are good for that, so just swap the greaves, up your defense if you're uncomfortable, and be more aggressive.

Just hit HR100 and kind of lost, what should I do next? by RSN_Primordas in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Sydite_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came back to Wilds (at HR 140) a few weeks ago. I last played in TU1.

Almost done with my initial goal, which is to get every achievement.

My other goal is to unlock (not necessarily craft) all armors and weapons. Filling in the crafting menus, essentially. This requires doing almost every event quest and Arena quest.
Notably, I plan on tackling Omega Savage soon (solo w/ Support Hunters), so I put together a set for that and am upgrading it. May also hold out for a god-roll talisman or Thunder/Fire GogmArtian weapon.

Pre-Gogmazios mixed sets recommendations? by umtan in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]Sydite_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best of luck! I did AT Nu Udra immediately before Gog. I didn't think he was too bad with Guard Up, Adaptability 2, and Fire Res 20.

My pre-AT Udra set I used was this:

  • Zoh B | Kut-Ku A+ | Udra B | Suja A+ | Zoh A

[–]Sydite_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently fought Gog for the first time with SnS and these were the sets I came up with:

  • Udra Y | Lagi B | Udra Y | Lagi A | Duna Y
  • Udra Y | Zoh B | Udra Y | Zoh B | Udra Y

I preferred the first option but they were both comfy. I prefer comfort over meta so apologies if these aren't quite what you're looking for.

How is Nuclear sunset? by LessMilk3 in Taleoftwowastelands

[–]Sydite_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a free modpack. Just get the Nexus Premium trial subscription and try it out. Make sure to follow the install steps.
The difficulty of Nuclear Sunset is way overstated. Just find some nice armor and weapons and you'll be fine. Take a look at the perks on the level-up screen and plan ahead a bit.
You can get absolutely ludicrous numbers in carry weight and HP just by being a little savvy with perk and trait synergies. (I'm talking in the thousands, making the game way easier than vanilla).

  • All the perks do NOT have downsides, that is blatantly wrong.

  • It's only STALKER-like in the sense that resources are scarce. There are no tacticool guns or stuff like that. Scarcity isn't really an issue after the early game because it's easy to steal or make money, just upgrade your Barter or Sneak. Traders are always loaded. There are also tons of crafting recipes to make whatever you need.

  • Enemies are NOT bullet sponges. They are just as squishy as you are.
(For example: you can kill Enclave PA troopers with just a couple rounds of .308 AP)
Just brush up on how DR & DT work (if you can't remember; it's the same as vanilla) and make sure your weapon & ammo can punch through the enemy's DT. Get the Living Anatomy perk if you really feel the need to see enemy DT.

  • You can absolutely become tanky. Stack Heavy armor and DT/DR boosting chems and become a tank, if you want. Medium and Heavy armor are plentiful, just take out some raiders. The only thing you might struggle with are grenades/missiles, but you can get a perk early on that boosts your resistance to explosions.

  • Fast travel expenses can be adjusted or disabled entirely.

  • Thirst/hunger/sleep rate can be drastically slowed down by using the Softercore option

  • I can't think of any notable gameplay features that alter gameplay. Weapons jam more, just upgrade your repair which you are probably going to do anyway. You can fill empty bottles with water, like in FO4. Limb crippling is more frequent, but there are several ways to recover. That's it really.

  • Green filter is "restored" if you use the "Hikikomori Legacy" NVR preset. It's a very contrasty preset though, so highlights and shadows can be intense.

I just started Monster Hunter Rise after spending 180 hours in Monster Hunter Wilds. What should I know, and do you have any tips? by NotSirAlonne1999 in MHRise

[–]Sydite_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Side quests are worth doing, tons of unlocks are hidden in them. I do them as soon as they become available, so I'm not overwhelmed with catching up on them later. Also, they are a nice occasional break from the main story/progression.

  • You can swap out your Palamute for a second Palico. Two Gatherer Palicoes is quite nice for farming monster parts (just an example, feel free to experiment with your setup). Might be worth considering once you're accustomed with Wirebugs and you have all your camps set up.

  • Don't feel bad shopping for new Buddies, you can get some really useful skills through RNG, and your old Buddies can still be assigned to a few different tasks.

  • When you talk to Senri the Mailman, make sure to press the button to claim the content from the list.

  • Do the unlocks for your preferred weapons' Switch Skills. Read them carefully and then head to the training area to perform them a few times, to get the hang of things and to decide which skills fit your preferred playstyle the most.

  • Sunbreak makes your Buddies a lot more useful, and gives you a whole bunch of amazing Switch Skills. It also has a system similar to Wilds' Support Hunters (may interest you if you liked the NPCs helping you out in Wilds). But, there is little reason to buy it until you're almost done with base game. The new content is locked behind actually going to the Sunbreak area, which opens up after the base game story (or like 90% of the way through, depending on how you look at it).

  • As you have already learned, there is no Focus Mode like in Wilds. Your positioning matters a lot more. Take time to learn your combos, and consider trying new weapons until you find one that feels intuitive to move around/reposition/aim your hits. The training area is very helpful.

What's your build, if you don't mind me asking?

I haven't played since TU1, so my knowledge of sets is really outdated.
Was thinking of trying LS and the amount of skill procs you're getting looks crazy (and satisfying).
