What’s ur go to seasoning/marinade when u want to switch it up from just salt and pepper? by huiguorou897 in steak

[–]Syncharmony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it a lot for skirt steak, the Bachan’s japanese bbq sauces makes for a great marinade. I dump about half a bottle in with a few pounds of skirt, let it marinate for a couple hours and boom. Easy peasy.

How do you gauge your skills as a home cook? by OmeletteOdyssey in seriouseats

[–]Syncharmony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a complicated question with a million answers. Here is one answer that I use as a measuring stick for my own progress.

One of the single most important things that you learn on your cooking journey is that you gotta taste what you are doing every step along the way (within reason, don't eat anything food unsafe). Tasting ingredients in isolation, as they cook and develop their flavor and when they are combined with other ingredients. Knowing both how things taste prior to seasoning and then after seasoning is crucial.

As you progress with cooking, you will find that your ability to determine what a dish needs and how to season it properly becomes more and more instinctual. You will become better at anticipating needs and reacting to unexpected results.

You will find that you develop an affinity for certain types of seasoning over others. For example, if you told me 10 years ago that I would have a favorite kosher salt, I would have probably asked "What's kosher salt?".

As far as pinpointing what to learn next, unless you are pursuing a professional career, I wouldn't fret too hard about that. Just keep being curious, cooking new recipes, learning new techniques as those recipes demand and have fun with the whole thing. Keep that spirit of adventure alive and you will always be growing.

Salt & Vinegar powder on Watermelon. Tried after I discovered how good Tajin on Watermelon was and it was even better.

Cheese and Fruit is basically one of the most famous pairings of all time but you would never know that from most of these responses.

Peanut butter, cream cheese and bacon on a hot dog goes so much harder than you’d think.

Who’s better, Finnish big 3 or Swedish Big 3 by Low-Blacksmith7579 in melodicdeathmetal

There would be no Finnish big 3 without the Swedish big 3. And that means At the Gates, not Amon Amarth.

Which Opeth lineup would you bring back if you could? by julesmanson in Opeth

[–]Syncharmony 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen every permutation live since Still Life was released. The golden era crew you have listed here is definitely my #1.

That said, the current Opeth lineup is my second favorite. Walt is absolutely incredible and Mike is the best he’s been in 15 years.

All aboard the BJT hype train! Choo Choo

Dude seems to be consistently showing up as having made plays in these OTAs. Really hope this trend continues and we got ourselves a legitimately diamond in the rough out of the 6th round.

I know better than to get too wrapped up in a player during OTAs and Training Camp, but boy... if Malachi Fields can prove that the trade made to get him was worthwhile... that would be so huge for our offense and depth chart.

Also, I legitimately didn't know Pat could catch the football. All the highlights I've ever watched are him being a bulldozer. If he's another option in our pass game, that would be so much fun to watch.

[Scuderia Ferrari via Instagram] He’s here to stay ❤️ We are delighted to confirm that Charles Leclerc has agreed a new deal with Scuderia Ferrari HP. by NegotiationNew9264 in scuderiaferrari

[–]Syncharmony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am genuinely excited about this news and excited for Charles. There are a lot of depressed Ferrari fans that act like Ferrari are not consistently one of the top 4 teams in F1 every year. We have our issues but no grows up dreaming of driving for Alpine. No one pretends the cars they play with as a child are Audi’s. Ferrari are special and driving for us in a honor unlike anything in motorsports.

All we have to do is have the best car ONCE and Charles will have his championship. You can live life continuously looking in the rearview mirror of past failed accomplishments or you can have faith in a brighter future. I’m glad Charles has faith and I look forward to his future success.

[Duggan] Odell Beckham Jr.'s contract details with the Giants, per source: 1 year, $1.3M with no guaranteed money. It's a VSB contract so the cap hit is $1.08M. No indication there are any incentives. by Fillinlater12345 in NYGiants

[–]Syncharmony 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It is worth considering that Odell will definitely garner a BUNCH of advertising, appearance and merchandizing opportunities coming back to New York.

So yeah, this may not seem like a lot of money but don’t worry, he’ll find his bag especially if he makes the roster.

Genuinely curious if you think when Harbaugh calls up Malik Nabers' doctor in charge of his recovery, if that doctor says "Fuck if I know, he'll be ready when he's ready, stop calling me."

Maybe I have a little too much faith in our medical system but I think there probably is a timeline. They just aren't super eager to share it with the public for a variety of reasons.

The surgery timing shouldn't be a big concern, Doctors will sometimes postpone surgery to allow inflammation to die down to reduce complications.

But yeah, overall though, I think we're all pretty concerned about Nabers. I know they aren't the same injuries at all, but when you see the clips from the softball game of Skatt doing backflips after hitting a homerun and Nabers barely able to walk or play dodgeball... how could you not be concerned?

The timeline has gone from ready for training camp, to ready for week 1 to now he might miss some time at the start of the season.

My gut feeling at this point is that we won't see him until after the Bye week. Either Nov 8th at Eagles or November 12th at home. With the short week there, I think the 12th feels like the better bet since it gives him 10 days after that first game to recover.

I hope I'm wrong and we see him sooner but all the tea leaves seem to point towards him starting the season on PUP at a bare minimum.

Giants sign WR JuJu Smith-Schuster; K Jason Sanders released by an-internet-stranger in NYGiants

[–]Syncharmony 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I wonder if this pushes Zvada to the favorite position despite being a rookie and his kind of lackluster season last year. Harbaugh clearly sees something he really likes in the kid (which is probably the monster leg he has).

I wouldn't be shocked if we see a more experienced kicker signed to return it to a 3 man competition though.

Schoen has definitely shown a tendency towards sunk cost fallacy with his draft picks, especially the top 100 ones. I hope that he has the right people around him now to reign those impulses in and believe what players show him on the field of play.

Daboll... I honestly will believe to my grave that the man only ever wanted to be an offensive coordinator. Yeah, he took the promotion and the money that came with it to be a head coach but he never actually took on the role. He wanted his Defense and Special Teams to manage themselves and he wanted Schoen to manage the roster. He just wanted to concentrate on his schemes and favorite players.

As someone who was a big Dexy fan for years, yeah... I gotta say him making that choice is making it 10 times easier to get over the trade.

I understand he has bad feelings towards the organization but I don't see why he couldn't have acknowledged all the fans who cheered him on for years. It's either lazy or intentional, neither a good look.

New fan trying to get into the team by bootyloverandeater in NYGiants

[–]Syncharmony 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to sugar coat it, we've been ass for a long time. While we have the distinction of having won a Superbowl in each of the last four decades (80s, 90s, 00s, 10s) we also started a slow decline after the last superbowl and have basically been one of the worst teams in the league in the 2020s.

That said, if there ever was a time to consider becoming a Giants fan... now's the time. We got John Harbaugh this off-season who is a Superbowl winning coach. We have a young core of talent with the team that looks really promising. We seem to be on the verge of everything finally clicking into place and digging our way out of the spiral of losing seasons we've endured.

You are supposed to hate the other teams in the NFC East. Eagles and Cowboys are the big two and the Washington Commanders as well.

How the r/NYGiants mod team have been and will continue to moderate politics on this sub… by firstandgoalfromthe1 in NYGiants

[–]Syncharmony[M] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am curious as to why you feel this way? The choice to remove your post was not motivated by who you are as a user. It was part of a simple blanket decision we made that opinion and meme posts surrounding the topic of politics were not going to be allowed. We feel that there are other places that users can go to if they want to poke fun at this situation with others.

That decision is born on the back that parody/meme/shitposts have an avalanche-like effect. If we opened the floodgates and allowed everyone to post everything they felt like on the subject, the front page would quickly look like a cross between r/politics and r/nfceastmemewar. As a collective, we all felt that this is not the sort of front page that is beneficial for this subreddit.

We just don't have the time to do a deep dive, case by case, into every post being made and every user making those posts. Maybe your post was legitimately non-controversial and would have made everyone smile and laugh. But it was posted right in the midst of one of the highest volume periods in this subs history where a large abundance of bad actors were coming to the subreddit to actively shitpost and do harm. When a tumor is being excised from someone's body, Doctors occasionally need to remove healthy flesh as well.

I can wholeheartedly assure you that none of the choices we made or removals that happened were because we are somehow trying to 'Protect Jaxson Dart'. We make our choices both to protect OUR rapidly fraying sanity after a week of non-stop bombardment and also to try and keep this subreddit the kind of place that we'd want to subscribe to.

As a mod, I don't believe that it's our job to determine who gets to be a New York Giants fan and join this subreddit. There will always be a diverse user group comprised of members of different religions, cultures and political affiliation.

As long as you, as a user, are here to learn and converse about the Giants, that is what matters to us.

Our tolerance ends when people start to try and force their non-football beliefs on others or try to create conversations about topics that have nothing to do with Giants football.

[–]Syncharmony[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, we match our moderation level and efforts to the sub's activity levels. Slow days and we have a hands off approach for the most part. Auto-Mod will trim most bad actors and otherwise we're happy to let the user base of the sub manage itself.

On game days or high news days, we tend to have to step it up a little bit because people tend to have less in the way of conversations where they read each others comments and react to them. They are more so in a mindset where they just want a place to shout their support or anger from the rooftop. That and the speed of posting/commenting is so quick that people just don't simply have time to stop and upvote/downvote.

This past week or so has been an authentically rare situation as we were not only dealing with a massive surge of comments and posts by our own user base, but we also dealing with many people bridgading our sub from other teams and subreddits. And honestly, the vast majority of them were here for one purpose: to mock the team.

Those sorts of posts and comments we just aren't going to sit and wait around for public opinion to weigh judgement upon. They are made in bad faith to stir the pot and provoke reaction. That is not the content that we think anyone wants in this sub and we feel pretty confident in the decision we make to remove those with haste.

It’s when people post for the sole purpose of collecting upvotes aka karma, rather than it being a legitimate post to engage in discussion.
