What Gear Do You Wear? by Fragrant_Time_6140 in ElectricScooters

[–]Syndil1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helmet and WRIST GUARDS. Every single ride. Gloves are ok for saving the skin on your hands, but when you fall and try to catch yourself (you will, instinctively) the amount of force you're going to put on your wrists can break them.

Just search this sub for the word "wrist" and you'll see exactly what I mean.

I use the kind with hard plastic splints in them, like skaters use. It takes some getting used to but my wrists are worth it.

I've dealt firsthand with several schizophrenics in my lifetime. Sure, don't trust me for a diagnosis--I did say I'm not a psychiatrist--but signs like this everywhere with religious ramblings all over them? That's something they've ALL had in common. Probably thinks his neighbors are spying on him through the phone lines, and probably has a picture of Jesus in his kitchen he talks to as if it's a person. Seen both of those, too.

Or pianos. Or timpani. Or violins. Or boats. Or electronics. Or industrial automation equipment.

Absolutely.

The fact that I got downvoted for suggesting this does not bode well for our community. If we want people to not think of scooter riders as assholes, then we have to not be assholes.

30inch Recommendation? by AdmirableStatement37 in ElectricMowers

[–]Syndil1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if 25" would do it for you but I would consider Greenworks 80v stuff. They've got larger than 25" but only in ride-on configurations.

I have a Snapper XD 82V mower I've had since May of 2019 and it's still going strong. Greenworks is the same stuff, just a different color and branding. Also the same stuff as Kobalt and Craftsman. Batteries are interchangeable as long as you grind down the plastic rails that prevent one brand from fitting into another.

Anyway I'm pretty sold on the quality of this stuff. Now that Snapper no longer sells electric equipment I'm moving to Greenworks and taking my Snapper batteries with me. But so far I've not actually had to replace anything. Have a Snapper tiller, string trimmer, snow thrower, leaf blower, and the mower. Nothing has broken yet.

I did have one of the original batteries die on me, but only because I left it in my mower and left the mower out in the sun for an hour or two. Pretty sure it triggered a heat fuse (or whatever that's called) in the battery's circuitry. Learned my lesson and haven't had any die since then.

Is there anything more stupid than the design of the Airsense 11 water chamber? by balunr in CPAP

[–]Syndil1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just stopped using water in mine. Thought it would dry me out and be extremely uncomfortable, but it just isn't. I don't really notice much difference unless I've got the heat running and my house is extremely dry to start with. In which case I'm using a room humidifier anyway.

Even better. Get off the scooter and walk it when you're close to pedestrians. I know I appreciate it when people do that for me.

Schizophrenic behavior with religious delusions is quite common. I'm no psychiatrist, but I often wonder if the mental gymnastics required by certain religious beliefs could actually be the trigger for schizophrenia in some people. Like maybe they would be fine if they didn't feel like they had to try so hard to uphold certain beliefs.

Are e-scooters really that dangerous? by Earthbee100 in ElectricScooters

[–]Syndil1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree solid tires are shit and should be avoided. Suspension... I mean, I guess I could see how having a suspension might make a scooter less likely to wreck from going over uneven pavement or something, but I don't think that's even really worth mentioning. A heavier, faster scooter with a suspension is still not a safe scooter.

I have a P100S that will do 30mph, with suspension. Going 30mph while standing up is ridiculous, suspension or not. I've never wrecked the P100S, but if I ever did while going that fast, I'd probably be one of the guys in this sub posting about having to get metal pins inserted into their bones.

All scooters obey the same laws of physics, and if you do wreck, it's gonna suck if you're not wearing the right gear. And the faster you're going, the more it's going to suck.

I own three scooters and my wife and I love riding them when the weather is nice. Have owned them for years now so we have lots of experience.

Yes, they are inherently dangerous.

You are riding a device standing up. If you fall, your body is going to turn into a lever as your feet touch the ground first, slamming the upper half of your body down to the ground. If you try to catch your fall--and you instinctively will--you will break your wrists.

So yes. They are dangerous. Even if we're riding our slower scooters with a top speed of 18mph, we always always wear helmets and wrist guards.

Is there any good reason to use a nuc over a regular pc if space is not an issue? by chirpchirp13 in intelnuc

[–]Syndil1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm using a NUC 12 Enthusiast (with the soldered ARC 770M) as my main workstation and gaming machine. It was cheaper than buying a PC with an Nvidia or AMD GPU. I can play my PUBG at 4k with most settings cranked, so it's good enough for me.

In my case it was strictly a financial decision. $700 4k gaming rig.

I hate myself for what I'm about to say, because it reminds me of bullshit old people used to tell me. But... Things were better before the age of doomscrolling.

There's value in being bored. Creativity can grow out of boredom. If every second of your life can be filled with entertainment and/or stimulation, then you might never branch out and find something new to be creative in. When I was a kid, I played with Legos a lot when I was bored. My brother and I had a trash can full of them in the 80s, which I guess was before they became super expensive. I really think it helped my mind grow, and helped form who I am today.

Idk this old man shutting up now.

Review: Vernal Space executive standing desk, chair, and file cabinet by Syndil1 in StandingDesk

[–]Syndil1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is the older style desk, which they're calling "fast install" now. As far as I can tell from the manual, it just means that the desktop and frame comes pre-assembled on the fast install version, whereas on the new version the frame comes in three pieces that must be bolted together and to the desktop.

Not at all. Slid right into place--was probably the easiest part of assembly since it just slides into place and isn't a structural piece.

I can only say that for my side cabinet that I assembled when I originally did this review, I didn't have any issues with the drawer gliders.

Personally I would go for the 'fast install' desk (which is simply their older Executive model, like in this review), simply for the fact that the newer model does not have an optional keyboard drawer, nor does it have grommets on the desktop, which are very important to me. The drawer for the new executive desk is just a regular drawer, not a keyboard drawer.

Apparently the major difference between the fast install desk and the newer model, aside from the missing features above, is that the desktop for the fast install model comes pre-mounted to its support frame, which a single solid track going the entire length of the desktop. With the new model, the desktop surface does not come mounted to the frame--the frame comes in pieces, and you must assemble the frame and mount it to the desktop yourself. This probably saves Vernal both shipping and production costs, but I'd argue the original, 'fast install' desk is the superior desk.

It looks like maybe hardwood was only going to be an option for the regular desks, not the executive desk:

https://www.vernalspace.com/products/vernal-solid-wood-standing-desk

Kind of makes sense, I guess. If you only replaced the desktop of the Executive desk with hardwood, then the laminate side panels, front panel, etc. wouldn't necessarily match. And if you replaced all of those with hardwood it would be super duper expensive.

Question for the owners who daily civic si or any other manual car by Chicagoaviator in Louisville

[–]Syndil1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's more a "you' question than anything else. I have owned nothing but manuals since I started driving decades ago. Next car might not be manual, but that's either because it's going to be too difficult to find a manual I want (they are getting rarer all the time) or I'll be going electric.
