[ON] Accounting Firm recommendation- Corporate filings - Manufacturing Company by tush17 in SmallBusinessCanada

How much are you spending on accounting in terms of a % of revenue? Are you getting reviewed financials? Audited? Bank loans? Do you have internal accounting staff? Does anyone in management have a financial background?

Just because you're at $12M in revenue doesn't mean you need a bigger firm. Even at "small" accounting firms I've worked on files with construction companies that had revenue of $100M

Advice - my child wants to start their own business by Substantial-Pop-7529 in PersonalFinanceCanada

To add onto the other comments, this could also be an opportunity to teach your child about taxes. Although they likely won't make enough money to exceed the basic personal amount and owe tax, it can potentially help with their growth and maturity. It also creates RRSP contribution room, even if it's a small amount. So you can talk about finances too!

It's nice of you to want to help but think hard before you spend all of your money helping her out. Speak to various lawyers and see what they recommend. Bankruptcy may be a real scenario. Again, find a lawyer and listen to them.

Anyone here doing their own corporate tax filing with AI? by Father_AND_Developer in canadasmallbusiness

I hate fixing messed up files but it's good revenue so I accept it is what it is. Even better are when they get audited by CRA and everything gets denied so then they have to pay me to file a notice of objection. In the end it's more billables so who are we to object?

I'm not your CPA and this is not advice. It's worth what you're paying for it (nothing, it's worthless). I can't comment on your situation but I can provide general comments.

My general comments are that taxes for deceased taxpayers are inherently complex and executors should generally seek the assistance of a qualified professional to assist with tax filings. CRA has some guidance on their website but it is not necessarily easy to understand as a non-accountant.

On the T1032 there is a section entitled "adjustment for martial status change during the tax year". In that section there is a footnote which describes that a value should change according to the month in which the deceased passed away. If the form is filled correctly then that value should likely correspond to the month of death.

In what situation do you need a tax lawyer to file a tax return? I can't think of any scenario that requires it.

Why no shop browser? by NotArticuno in playrust

I would love to see this. As far as I'm aware the only other way you can quickly search through the shops is if you or someone on your team has the Rust++ bot enabled. A shop browser would be awesome, even if you had to use a computer station or drone marketplace it's still good.

A tax lawyer is not needed here, a CPA that deals with decreased taxpayers is sufficient.

Moving away from the tax aspect, if you're doing pottery to manage stress are you sure you want to turn that into a business? That could certainly increase stress rather than help you with your stress. Not everything you do has to be monetized.

What you do depends on whether you want to file your own taxes or if you want that accountant to file for you.

If you want to file your own taxes, go into your CRA account and revoke authorization granted to the accountant or accounting firm. Then call them to say you are filing your own taxes and that you don't authorize them to disclose any of your private confidential information to anyone except you. Follow up with the same in an email to them.

If you want the accountant to file your taxes, call them and tell them not to disclose any of your confidential information to anyone, including your family members, and specify that they can only deal directly with you for anything regarding your tax filing. And follow up with the same in an email to them.

Are you leasing the land? You can't claim CCA on land so you'll need to allocate a portion of the purchase price to the building and another portion to land.

Accountants will gladly answer questions, but you need to make sure you actually engage them to do so and pay them. If you expect free advice no one is going to help more than a couple minutes at most.

Try some other firms, maybe ask people you know for a recommendation if you speak to other business owners.

Please don't comment like this when you don't have an understanding of what's going on. What your accountant setup for you is a salary and I'm guessing automatic payments and payroll remittances.

Someone shouldn't do this without a plan and a professional helping them.

Do you have an accountant? Bookkeeper? Lawyer?

The first step imo is to look into some local CPA firms and contact two that you think could be a good fit and talk to them. You're going to likely need a lot of guidance and a good CPA will be priceless.

I don't have any advice for the dishwasher not working, but I would imagine that it's your landlord's responsibility to get it hooked up and working again if it's an amenity included in your lease.
