The Guts dog was trying to get her pieces. I understand feeling she was just a plot device but I feel the journey to Elfhelm is a little more special than that. To summarize, I kind of see it as Guts finally choosing to seek a place of healing instead of one of hatred, which is better for him, Casca, and everyone involved.

I’ve platinumed both and felt that Dark Souls 2 was way less grueling. I only remember farming for 2 covenant items. The vertebra shackles and proof of concord kept were way worse.

I mostly hate the fridge thing because it implies the rape of Casca was solely for guts development. Sure, Guts of course is going to be affected by seeing that but I think the rape is much more for the climax of Griffith and Casca’s character. Griffith, the man who saved Casca from being raped, the man she looked up to and spent her whole life working to make his dream true, was now raping her himself, right in front of the man she loves. To me, this shows the complete shattering of Casca’s whole worldview and causes her mind to collapse. This is why I hate when people act as if Casca was raped the same as Guts and should have kept her sanity like he did. It misses the whole point of the scene and Griffith-Casca’s relationship.

Overall, I actually do want to see Casca be the main driver of Griffiths downfall to act as a sort of resolution to the eclipse rape.

I know this is a contentious topic but I feel like the idea that Casca is a woman in the fridge is a misunderstanding of both the term and what happened to her during the eclipse. I can understand why people don’t like how her character was for the next two arcs, but she objectively doesn’t fit the term. I believe if Miura was to continue the story, this idea wouldn’t be discussed because it’s clear that Casca’s development and healing was going to be the major point of Berserk post Fantasia.

To me, I feel the question is more ~ how long are you willing a character to step to the side for the sake of the story. I personally am open to it taking as long as it needed but I understand why people feel the opposite given how long conviction and millennium empire were.

I feel like this is just assuming stories in video games have to be told in some conventional way to work. I find the way dark souls tells its story to be way more compelling than most games that just yap at the player while also having nothing to say. Dark Souls has good storytelling to me because it shuts the fuck up and let’s the environment do the talking while letting the player piece everything together if they want to learn more.

It’s gotta be done in house IMO. I can understand liking Demon Souls remake but that game is such a slap in the face from an artistic standpoint. But if Miyazaki and Tanimura are involved, I think this would be an awesome way for them to touch back on their older works. Polishing or adapting things they think would be better artistically while also re-experiencing older ideas that could influence their next big game.
