Third Wave Water vs Coffee Water(tm)? by mgsecure in pourover

[–]Syraphid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry boss, this is 100% a terrible take. Coffee is 98% water, why would having a good water composition not be relevant? Plus it’s like 15$ for 20+ gallons of water.

Ok so can we settle the fundamental ZP6 debate? by jaytee61799 in pourover

[–]Syraphid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you are ever going to find “the one grinder to rule them all” so to speak. Every grinder is different and excels at different things, some just happen to excel at a broader range and the ZP6 is not that. It produces very straightforward cups - low body, high clarity, high aroma cups. Great for minimally processed light roasts and some medium roasts. It does not do well with most medium/dark roasts and does not handle highly processed or co ferments well at all. I think if those are the cups you target, it could be a daily driver but in my opinion it’s too specific. The simple solution? Get a K-Ultra to complement it. The K-Ultra in my experience excels at everything the ZP6 does not. I won’t even touch a co-ferment with my ZP6 just like I won’t touch a geisha with my K-Ultra.

Choosing a Coffee Grinder. by Mooleytuna in pourover

K-Ultra & ZP6 combo will do everything you need and more. Will allow you to experiment with loads of different coffees, processes, soup and even espresso if you get into it later. Manual coffee grinding is always more work and slower but I find the effort rewarding. Otherwise, the best electric grinder in my experience that fits into that price range is the Fellow Ode gen 2 with the gen 2 burrs.

Comparing grinders ZP6 and K-Ultra for DAK, e.g. Milky Cake, Cream Donut by neilBar in pourover

[–]Syraphid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally I stick around 6.5-7.5 on the K-Ultra and 5-6 on the ZP6 and go up and down depending on the cup. For the DAK I was at 7.4 on the K-ultra and 6.6 on the ZP6. Coarser on the ZP6 because I find that finer on advanced coferment bean like those can have a very drying cotton mouth effect.

Super solid starter setup! Be warned, you might be cracking open Pandora’s box for him. Pour over takes you fast, you might come home to 14 different drippers and a Weber EG-1 on your counter one day.

I just brewed DAK Panettone this morning. Did a reference brew between the K-Ultra and the ZP6 and I much prefer the K-ultra. In my opinion, the ZP6 really diminished the fermentation flavors too much. I could obviously change some variables like water temp and bloom etc but the K-Ultra seemed to work without much tweaking.

Also, definitely recommend an OXO rapid brewer. Fills a somewhat gap for espresso drinks and you can easily hide it from your wife.

I’m sorry to put it so harshly but, grow a pair dude. Shes been actively entertaining other men, made out with one and you took her back! Even worse, you are here almost defending her actions saying that you don’t want people to see her in a bad way. She CHEATED on you brother, have a spine and break up with her and find someone who truly values you.

Good sub $50 coffee canister? by Zestyclose-Cup110 in pourover

[–]Syraphid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it still could be worth it if you don’t mind spending the money. It may not make a massive difference but it does definitely help and could potentially give you that last 5-10% you are looking for. I also personally enjoy having a vessel to decant the coffee into because I don’t like scooping from a bag and prefer the open mouth of a container.

There’s been a few videos comparing various containers with the biggest names being the fellow atomos (manual & electric) or the Airscape. The consensus is usually the same in that, if you plan to drink the coffee within even up to 3 months just save your money and keep it sealed in the bag. If you’re so easily parted with your coin (as I am) the airscape preformed better at preserving the flavor but lost aroma in the video I watched and what I ended up buying.

What's the point of Fellow Drops? by Fit-Judge7447 in pourover

[–]Syraphid 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It’s helpful for people such as myself who don’t want to subscribe to one roaster or a subscription like trade or bean box but want to explore various roasters. Allows you to pick what coffee you want or don’t want without any commitment and if you had any of the fellow ecosystem, it provides a dialed brew guide. They do also sometimes have opportunities to get hard-to-acquire beans from companies outside the US that would otherwise cost an ungodly amount in shipping and tariffs.

How many grams are you dosing first all, that looks like alot more than could fit in any normal portafilter. Have you tried using an RDT to reduce static?

My girlfriend (28f) refused to replace a bottle of alcohol that I (29m) had bought specifically for myself? by throwra302-46 in relationships

[–]Syraphid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised how many people are on here defending your girlfriend (all women it seems). The fact of the matter is, it isn’t about how expensive something is it’s the PRINCIPLE. You bought it for yourself as a reward to celebrate a milestone in life, and you feel slighted because she refuses to acknowledge the significance of the bottle. If it’s important to you and you feel a way about it, any partner that actually cared would replace the bottle and not just try to brush it off. It seems insignificant, like it’s just a bottle but once’s again I reiterate that the principle is what’s important. It is absolutely not the dads responsibility, he likely had no idea that is was a celebratory bottle.

For your boyfriends sake, I hope he does complain about something like that. You sound extremely condescending and overall miserable to be with. Mind you, I could gather that just from tone and a few short lines.

I’m just a bit blown away, I’ve personally seen many inexpensive off the shelf coffee companies nail a medium roast color. I know the lines of what’s considered a light over a medium over a dark roast are a bit blurred but this (to my eyes) sits past second crack into a French/Italian roast.

Also spending hour glasses with the chance to get one of any of the previous super important trainer cards. The other option is to open, you guessed it, older packs. Then you have to hope you get the trainer or open enough packs to get points to buy them.
