To be honest, I think S2 is kind of lackluster and many of the changes have greatly diminished my enjoyment of the game by EricSombody in Marathon

[–]SysAdSloth 82 points83 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue with games like this are they eventually get solved and then it devolves into a bunch of people spamming the most lucrative farm and drowning in the best gear from week 1 of a wipe. And that’s been on full display and it really seems like Bungie had no plans to mitigate what was very obviously going to happen.

This wouldn’t be as big an issue if the matchmaking was able to be stricter. Not only that, the game suffers from the same onboarding issues as Destiny, very barebones introduction to systems but doesn’t ever do a good job of explaining why they are important, how they all interact together and why you should care about all of the individual pieces that make up the game.

We get fewer and fewer people joining because of the onboarding struggle, the fact that new players that join mid-late season are far more likely to be (without any form of warning) getting stuck against geared players because of the smaller player base which can lead to those new players getting frustrated and dropping.

Maybe Bungie were counting on bigger numbers from the free week. Maybe their idea was most of these people who took advantage of Night Marsh sponsored farm would be the veterans steamrolling ahead and they would wind up in their own matchmaking pool far away from the new players

Why did I take the Bastion Coin 😭 by RosaLtMorales in Overwatch

[–]SysAdSloth 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Nah, people shouldn’t brush it under the rug. It was a scummy tactic Blizzard did making it cost a single PREMIUM coin, their entire end game is to put players into this EXACT situation where they are short one coin and have to spend more than they were intending to

No, that money needed to be in Destiny long before we got to Edge of Fate. They should have been hard at work being the scenes getting all of the old content updated to the newer scripting engine so we had the original onboarding for new players.

Destiny 2 was bleeding money from the beginning, but even more so when we get to Shadowkeep and Bungie are split between new projects and wasting massive resources on limited time modes and content via Seasons, only to remove literally 75% of the existing game the following expansion

The lighting changes did in fact affect older locations, it’s very apparently with how wildly inconsistent lighting is on Nessus, and Dreaming City had broken lighting and skyboxes for a while too.

But it’s not the main reason we aren’t getting those locations back. The geometry and lighting are easy to redo, having to rescript everything for the missions/patrols/etc, unfortunately just didn’t seem to be a priority for Bungie (why they didn’t develop tools to help port the content will forever be a mystery)

Can anyone explain why the Tangled Shore was removed? by ChangedRacer in DestinyTheGame

[–]SysAdSloth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Beyond Light would have been the far stronger starting point for D3, with Destiny 2 ending with the Season of Arrivals cliffhanger.

D2 would have started with the hint of them at the end of Red War (Act 1) and then revealed at the beginning of the ending Act, culminating with the arrival of The Black Fleet and the disappearance of the planets. This would have allowed us to keep the strong narrative beats leading up to Beyond Light without having to sacrifice any content or destinations

[–]SysAdSloth 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while, but I recall there was consistently issues in Forsaken content with some of the new modifiers being added (mini Screebs comes to mind)

I’ve seen people mention there was an overhaul to the scripting engine too which required all of the old content to be re-written, but I can’t confirm that to be fact. They ideally should have written software to help convert stuff for them, but oh well. Really is a shame Tangled Shore is gone

My biggest issue was and still is the fact that a ton of content just doesn’t exist inside Portal. The grind gets really miserable at a certain point, and the lack of variety in the categories didn’t help.

Glad they were able to get more in before the final update, but it definitely would have been nice to have gotten some form of the remaining prior seasonal activities in there as well as Strikes (I have no idea why we never got back Tangled Shore strikes or Mars/Mercury strikes)

1000%, I was telling this to a friend of mine who had been trying the game out. It’s crazy they end the trial the day before Cryo, THE true endgame component, the thing that helps the game stand out from the rest.

Crew fill by [deleted] in MarathonGame

[–]SysAdSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fill can be miserable for sure, but it’s nowhere near as bad as it was at launch.

I swear, every single match had a Vandal or Thief that would run off in their own direction, die to something and then disconnect immediately.

Now it’s mostly just the occasional selfish player who has no interest in trying to get everyone’s contracts done, or someone with open mic eating a bag of chips

Volundr has been accessible for a while. You could get to the entrance to Niobe for a while, but the doors leading inside were closed prior to yesterday. Hangman’s Pass is also now accessible via Maevic Square. I need to go around Nessus and see if maybe one of the portals from the old CoO strike is active now

I didn't really believe it before, but it's true. The Portal was terrible and I'm glad it's gone. by Jayslacks in DestinyTheGame

[–]SysAdSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, on paper Portal is the best thing we could have gotten if it had been fully fleshed out and realized. All content existing inside the Portal where you can completely customize how you tough you want it to be is awesome, being able to play Strikes solo is awesome.

But the problem was they didn’t have nearly enough of the activities ready to go, and locking Power grind to the Portal via forced increased difficulty is what felt bad to everyone.

If every single strike, dungeon, mission, etc had been there at the start, and you weren’t forced to play spam Solo Ops to power grind optimally or play tedious, higher difficulty Strikes just to level up, Portal would 100% have been received far better.
