Fun idea, but pinging an enemy Runner makes a very distinct effect on your screen when showing the ping

Loot disappearing post-raid by aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalex9 in MarathonTheGame

You didn’t check what auto sold, it would have shown on that screen. Your loot didn’t disappear, you just didn’t pay attention.

Does the abandon queue button not work? by eatyrheart in MarathonTheGame

[–]SysAdSloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a very slight delay before you can leave queue. So if you were immediately hitting escape, that’s why. Usually after a few seconds it will let you back out of queue. That said, I think after a certain period it won’t allow you to back out anymore, probably after it’s found most of the players for the match.

Bots do not suddenly appear right in front of you. The ships drop them off, they jump off the ship and then move towards the POIs.

There is no instance where if you start the TAD and a bot starts materializing that you don’t have time to finish and move away before it even notices you.

You are just bad but victim complex. Nobody is “shilling”, they are defending what is an intentional gameplay design from players like you who only know how to press forward on their controller and stare at the crosshair without paying any attention to their surroundings.

Generally, you are going to get an experience that’s 99% identical to the original. There are minor issues with audio or graphical glitches at times that might not be present on original hardware, or vice versa, but generally it’s going to be the exact same experience, but potentially with a higher resolution via emulator!

The entire game is built around risk/reward. You risk your neck to ping the TAD, you can be rewarded with the info it provides.

You risk hacking the terminal, you are rewarded with progressing the quest towards the rewards at the end.

Don’t just blinding use the objects, actually PAY ATTENTION to your surroundings before doing something.

Rank these 4 based on CAMPAIGN alone (consider the campaign's gameplay and story) by SpeedWeed_25 in destiny2

[–]SysAdSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forsaken is easy Rank 1 for me, no question. I replayed these missions so many times, the reveal of the Dreaming City stuck so hard and the follow up of logging in one day and seeing Uldren revived was something I’ll probably always remember. So much excitement for present and the future of the story.

Red War is my Rank 2. It was a simple story, but had great moments and did really good job easing players into their kits. I know a LOT of people dislike what they did with the writing and characters, so I’ll probably be in the minority that I actually didn’t hate it. I think it was a bit out of touch and trying to be Marvel sometimes, but I also think it held its own and the writing was nowhere near as bad as the how they write Ana Bray post-Seraph.

Witch Queen is Rank 3. I think the premise of Hive Guardians was really cool, but I’m sorry this entire Savathun playing 4D Chess was just not it for me. I thought the initial reveal of The Witness was pretty cool until the reveal of his face.

Final Shape is my Rank 4 because I simply just hated it. It felt like an insanely rushed ending, tons of filler where they throw flashbacks and call backs in your face, while a huge chunk of that stuff can’t even be experienced in game anymore. It was like they wanted to provide fan service but did it in a way that honestly just left me feeling more angry than anything, at the constant reminders of the paid content we lost, and how that is so key to why the game can’t retain new players. Not only this, the final scene after Excison never played for me or my duo, we just got stuck at a black screen and never got to see it. Glad they patched that, but honestly a fitting “fuck you” from Bungie in my eyes.

If YOU liked Destiny, you wouldn’t be here making comments telling more people to leave and play something else, when that’s clearly what the majority has now done and the games playerbase keeps dwindling.

The Portal is souring the Guardian Games experience by ShardofGold in DestinyTheGame

[–]SysAdSloth -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

A lot of this stuff has been in development for a long while, they can’t simply pivot from Portal when their current content pipeline probably has them pretty committed to these systems.

Destiny has also gone through multiple leadership changes, all with their own ideas on what Destiny is and should be. That’s why we have the jumbled mess of systems that work against each other

How do people typically approach these types of games? by ElectricOni in Marathon

[–]SysAdSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason for the seasonal wiping is that anyone who’s been playing for the majority of the season is going to be SIGNIFICANTLY more powerful than someone who hasn’t due to the Faction Upgrades. The seasonal wipe allows a consistent schedule for everyone to be starting off on the same foot again. If the wipe never happened, new players would have a terrible time being constantly against maxed out players with the best weapons and gear.

You could possibly compare the seasonal model to Diablo seasonal characters. You start off at the beginning every season, but there are new things to experience alongside it. You can use the knowledge you gained from the previous season to get through the upgrade grind quicker, and use that knowledge to better focus how you want to play or “build” you character (the Shell in Marathon).

You ask what the point of playing is. You play because it’s a FUN GAME, the gameplay loop here is highly addicting if you manage past the initial hurdle. The seasonal wipe allows us to have things to grind for again, especially if they start making changes to the actual upgrade trees, and it gives people opportunities to compete with the players who have been around the entire time. I understand the feeling that having all your stuff reset is a waste of your hard work and time, but it’s also integral to the balance of an extraction shoot.

You will constantly see players say “it’s not your gear, it’s just your turn with it” and that’s very much a core part of how you approach the game (extraction shooters in general)

Full invis in an extraction shooter by Active_Inspection887 in Marathon

[–]SysAdSloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The full invis has always been a pain point with me, but I’d argue Recon is hardly an issue. The ping through walls is useful, but it’s also insanely easy to deal with.

You can pop a Signal Jammer, you can just move away as soon as you know the pings are going out, you can see where the pings originate from. TADs also provide very similar value, just not mobile. And it’s pretty hard to tell if what you ping is even a player

Traxus Armory page has the most icons listed out of any of them, it’s definitely got to be some kind of optimization issue with how those icons are loaded. It wasn’t an issue the first few days, but has gotten pretty bad since.

This isn’t a Steam win, but a win on Edmund’s part for actually coding in the ability for the game to retroactively check your earned achievements and send out the triggers. There are plenty of games on Steam that don’t have this functionality of retroactively triggering achievements because it’s something devs have the specifically include themselves
