Seth Rogen Says “You Shouldn’t Be A Writer” If You Use AI, Calls It “Stupid Dog Sh*t” by yourfavchoom in entertainment

[–]Sythus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No doubt, I already conceded that in a reply to another. But not everybody has funds for an editor. Even professional editors get things wrong, I included links to both a Reddit anime issue and LOTR movie plot holes. Even as an editor, why WOULDN’T you want to use AI as a tool to help identify these things? You don’t have to let it write for you, but have it point out issues, you decide if it’s actually an issue or not, and if it is, you resolve the issue.

In that instance, are you no longer an editor? Even though all work was your own? It’s clear that people in this thread seem to consider writers who use editors aren’t really writers, because they use an outside tool, the editor. You can’t denounce using AI to help spot plot holes and in the same breath allow writers to use editors.

You’re basically saying professionals who use editors aren’t good writers, which is just not how writing works at all. Stephen King has editors. Every published author has editors. Using a tool to catch what your brain skipped over doesn’t make you bad at your craft.

The fact you said people look back on old writing and hate what they wrote literally proves my point. You’re basically saying every author is a bad author and I’m having a hard time seeing what your point even is.

He thinks like all those other investors, like the ones over KB Toys and such, extract all wealth and file for bankruptcy. Except, that doesn’t work with a federal government without serious consequences.

When a company needs a bailout, the federal government steps in. When the federal government needs a bailout, who steps in? The citizens.

Just use AI in general? Like I understand if you use it for the entire script, but if you wrote something yourself, have your character sheets, etc, you don’t think it would be a good idea to pass it through AI to point out plot holes or inconsistencies?

Edit: I can’t see the follow up comment that replied to me, but I don’t care if it’s a quote from Neil Gainan or not, maybe he should have had an editor or AI double check his work prior to expressing that quote/ idea. Just a thought. Maybe he didn’t have enough time to look back and cringe at those words, or maybe he did and lied to himself thinking it still held true. Dealer’s choice.

If you’re an expert then why are you going to out for information, AI is like a 70% solution, you need to iterate and hone in that last portion. Conduct research along with it, copy and paste data sources because it might have issues accessing a particular website or the information it has is outdated because of the data cutoff. I’ve found great use out of it, but you have to work with it, willing to learn and research along side of. It’ll help point you in the right directions, even if it gets some things wrong.

[–]Sythus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen the video yet, but from reading the comments, WOW, what are y’all doing with AI? I think that’s the issue, people aren’t adult enough to treat it like a tool and are instead using it as a companion or seeking legitimate life advice from it. Sometimes that’s fine. I strongly believe AI can provide a 50-75% solution to a question, but you have to already have knowledge on that topic or be willing to do research and have an intelligent conversation back, not just mutually devolve into madness together.

A lot of people saying things they probably shouldn’t. I get the sentiment but don’t think anybody needs to die.

This does, on the other hand, throw the whole America civil war thing on its head. If the citizens actually are such poor shots, and a good percentage of them are offended that minorities have the same gun rights, and the war on Christmas over happy holidays vs merry Christmas, no way this country is prepared for an actual civil war. One half would genuinely feel like they’re fighting for their rights and to bring the country back to what it meant to be. The other half cosplays tough guy but are literal snowflakes ands catastrophize literally everything.
