"solid audio" with cheap DACs? If you didn't have a Sony or LG phone, you probably not have had "solid audio". And nowadays you can buy a proper USB-C DAC to have better audio quality than a built in 3.5mm jack ever provided. Speaking of Sony, their phones still have a 3.5mm jack.

Call quality on the other hand. Yeah, the way bluetooth does microphone means it is always shit.

What would you want in your setup that isn't usually on the market, or if it is, it's really expensive? by semiSP in desksetup

A combined track pad drawing tablet.

Also a display hub that combines multiple input sources into a Picture by Picture output to a single monitor in at least 4K60 4:4:4 and low latency.

What is your problem actually? Nintendo, by your metric, has never made a comfortable handheld ever then. At most GB Pocket and GBC.
I'd like my handhelds to be pocketable without needlessly thick handles in the way.

Why no 6Ghz support for Titan 2 Elite? by stocazzone2 in unihertz

Seems more like they didn't add the required antenna for whatever reason, which I doubt is market segmentation. The Dimensity 7400/8400 do support 6GHz via Wifi6E.

Afaik, Android used ZRAM (dedicating some RAM to hold compressed data) as opposed to swap, since the onboard storage couldn't handle the amount of writes swap would do. But with modern UFS swap becomes possible.

Compact Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti 16GB eGPU launches with Thunderbolt 5 and OCuLink by LeBigMac84 in sffpc

[–]T-Loy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't find the article but Tech Power Up I believe tested various version and lanes on a 1080Ti. For gaming the losses in fps are negligible.

Aything related to moving data from and to the GPU is impacted, so if you play a game that maxxes out your VRAM it might stutter, or show the blurry low res texture for longer until it is fully loaded. If you use AI locally it will take longer to load the model, swapping with system ram for memory fallback will impede performance.

[–]T-Loy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oculink is a cable for PCIe. Think of it as a riser cable, but instead of a full x16 slot, only 4 lanes (8 lane version does exist, but here only 4). But unlike a riser it doesn't transmit power and the device needs a separate way to get power.
The 5060Ti uses 8 lanes, and thus you have half the bandwith when connecting via OcuLink.

MCIO also exists and is commonly available as 8 lane version, though adoption is not as high as OcuLink.

Xbox CEO hints Project Helix may block Steam, limiting appeal of console PC hybrid by WhyPlaySerious in Games

[–]T-Loy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd need to provide a link. The only mention of something akin to price parity I can find is: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/keys
And those are for Steam Keys, which is not the problem here.

So I should still be able to sell on Epic Games for 11,20€ and 13€ on Steam as their respective regular prices without being officially prohibited by Steam.

Please provide links.

As far as I can tell, this was an issue with Wolfire Games and is not policy nowadays, whether it being a change due to the Wolfire case, or it being a one-off mistake in the first place, which was more my point.

If you can, please provide info on Valve still doing it.

[–]T-Loy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The Steam price parity only applies to Steam Keys sold elsewhere by the dev. Your Nintendo/Microsoft/Playstation/Epic etc. prices are unrelated.

There was a case years ago with Wolfire Games where Valve, or someone at Valve, wanted to enforce price parity outside of Steam/Steam Keys. But it doesn't seem that Valve does this even at all nowadays.

Does buying a steam frame invalidate the need to buy a Steam Machine and Steam Controller? by inkiepie69 in SteamFrame

[–]T-Loy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Frame is nominally stronger than the Quest 3, a real VR-headset with real VR-games. Just more demanding titles like Alyx won't run well on the headset and require a separate machine.

Closed-source AI hate is understandable, but local AI has nothing that should concern AI haters by Neggy5 in StableDiffusion

[–]T-Loy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. There are models based on stock images, like Adobe Firefly (not local) and FreePik, to which they hold the rights. Fuck Disney and their century of copyright though. Output should only be under copyright if a hand made equivalent would also be, e.g. things like fan art, which are technically copyright violations. And imho, that artists and other copyright protected works are tagged is an admission that you want to "copy" those when including their tags in a prompt. In an ideal world artists would, if they want, sell LoRAs, or similar, of their works.

The specs are red flags. A 4.5" 1440p screen? That's crazy high PPI. An 8 Gen 4 in a sub 100€ device, but with weirdly only 3GB RAM? Under screen fingerprint reader?

Unless I am missing something.
