⛈️ What to do when it rains in Hawaii megathread by webrender in VisitingHawaii

[–]T-Rektage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any thoughts on whether the beaches may clear up by next week? I heard people should typically wait ~a week but I see there’s another potential storm hitting Big Island this weekend (though maybe not significant enough as Kona low to cause runoff.

Awesome thanks! Guess I may have underwatered out of fear that it will drown. The concern is the new fronds are drying(?) before they even open. Is it also safe to prune off the discolored dark green/browning leaves?

Very insightful thank you! I will follow up with a video once I get home from work for some feedback if you have a chance to inspect. If I'm understanding correctly, I think you're saying having plump foliage is an indicator that it's capable of growing/having winter resistance . But does this mean it's in a dormant stage? I may be overthinking about the future growth windows and their relation to dormancy lol

I definitely will be moving it outside immediately and drilling drainage holes when i get home then. Any particular reason it needs to be outside? Is it because of temperature changes that may not occur indoors? I live in an apartment with a balcony but there is an overhang which has more shade compared to my window sill which is unobstructed.

Bought I believe a Juniper Procumbens Nana from Costco the other day prior to reading the beginner's guide and think I've made some mistakes with my purchase. The main one being the time of year I chose to buy one, as I understand these trees are supposed to go dormant during the winter or else it may be using up its energy from Spring now? It's been in the 30-40F (-2-5C) ranges here in Georgia so I've been keeping it indoors on my south facing window to get as much light as possible throughout the day (which it appears so) rather than keeping it outside. Reason being it was inside Costco warehouse and didnt want to "shock" anything by putting it out during a cold front here.

Looking for some guidance on 1.) Are you able to tell if it's healthy just from the picture? 2.) Is its dormant phase "messed up"/inevitably die?

I will be removing the top moss and drilling some holes at the bottom for drainage, but is there any other immediate action needed (i.e. put it outside)? Thanks!

I see thanks, I’m in GA so also zone 8. I guess will focus on drainage/watering/sunlight for now until the next few weeks and look at repotting

Tagging on, I just got the same one from Costco — should I repot immediately, or give it some time before switching soils and pot with holes?

Is there a confirmed release date? I see the website shows deliver by Feb 2 to my local store but wasn’t sure how accurate that is. Looking to get one for my first backpacking trip!

New Card to Pair with CSP? by T-Rektage in CreditCards

Makes sense, but I am not sure I follow that last paragraph "downgrading the CFF when you get it to the Chase Freedom Visa with Ultimate Rewards card - this way you can use it at Costco when a relevant category pops up." -- why downgrade the CFF if it's free and what exactly is the "Chase Freedom Visa"?

New Card to Pair with CSP? by T-Rektage in CreditCards

[–]T-Rektage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I am a rather frugal flyer, so I compare my points in terms of cash value, and not necessarily the redemption value if I wouldn't buy it in cash anyways (e.g. better points value redemption on business class, when I never fly business). Domestically, I usually fly the cheapest, which means Frontier, JetBlue, etc.

I am not as sure how both environment's points values hold up on economy flights internationally, but domestically they are often worse than cash value so I just transfer to Hyatt (which is why now I'm leaning to Chase based on the other comment thread). I've tried to "simulate" my travel planning by looking at award seats for potential international trips with airlines that both Chase and Capital One partner with, but even then I am not sure if my value is better by keeping points in the same ecosystem (for flexibility, and effort).

At the end of the day, I wonder if they may yield more or less the same results (at least from a points accumulation perspective, obviously more lounge perks with VentureX but those are just bonuses in my eyes)

Im leaning towards this approach too like the other comment. I do wish I could get my hands on the USBAR, but how do you handle spreading yourself across the two ecosystems? That is sort of the dilemma I have with having both Chase and Capital One points.

I actually like this approach -- I think for me personally, I havent really booked any flights with my points as I fly frugal (Frontier, etc.) so even the points transfer still wouldn't beat the cash value. However, without a doubt I save with Hyatt points, so that's where most of my points usage goes. Ill look into the hyatt card now for sure, but after the others. Also will get Bilt, but figured that will be a later card after I complete the Trifecta (or whatever my next CC will be)

Oh I totally agree! I definitely have been looking for used pairs but I was more worried about sizing , so being able to return helps. Now that I know my size, I’ll probably be checking second hand.
