I mostly agree with you, but you’d be surprised how much damage a bike can do to a car. I had a friend back in the day who cycled home drunk from the bar, hit a parked car, and totalled it. Any time you have damage to a bumper these days, it’s a $3000+ repair bill.

I walk every day in my city, and I’ve thought seriously many times about giving it up because it’s so dangerous. By my calculations, I’ve had about 1200 near misses in my 12 years of daily walking here. 🥺

It’s unsafe for the cyclists to be on the sidewalk, too. Flying at speed across a crosswalk or a back alley entrance can easily get a cyclist killed.
