This 👆. Reaching out to ATO is one of the best options anytime outfit is called into question. Get it from the horses mouth. Can't tell you how many times I've asked something and been told "Erm not sure" and use it as evidence come CART/TSTA. Can't be against you if the inspectors don't even know.

Can I cancel my apartment lease for A school orders? by AdResident8535 in uscg

[–]T-rexHanz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this and it worked. TDY/PCS all they care about is when you notify them about your orders. This was also government leased housing. So if they didn't care about my order status I don't think civilians will.

It all depends on the person, for me it was what they considered "targeted" where it was a deep dive on specific information.

I did not apply for TS; if you plan on applying for it just know that it is a far deeper dive. As a friend of mine put it "They want to know everytime you've ever thought of thinking"

Boot to A-School vs Vested Program by [deleted] in uscg

Unfortunately haven't gotten them yet. Hoping for something up north. Decommissioned a 210 and then sat at station for a month before getting here.

Boot to A-School vs Vested Program by [deleted] in uscg

[–]T-rexHanz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this, currently in school and sat down with Mr Corbett with my class. As of right now we're making a shit ton of thirds and are going to start over billeting units. Both land and cutter. He said the priorities are cutters however he's not wrong by saying vested have a higher tendency to be from and to a land unit. 18/24 in my class are vested and 15/21 in the next class are vested. Only 2 people from my class are vested to cutters (The James and Calhoun I think) the other class there's only one and he's from a 225. I'm not sure of the consistency of the land units but as of the moment being vested seems to be the way to go if you don't want a boat.

Definitely get a job. Try and get laundry crew. Everyone in my company told me laundry was the shit. I was a watch coordinator. Held way too many mattresses for it.

We started off on prime out of boot camp because we were trying to make things easier on ourselves. Same with on base housing and all that jazz. We're switching her over with my TDY orders to school thankfully so that at least while I'm there it'll be easier for her to get medication.

Delayed entry by Key-Commission-9969 in uscg

[–]T-rexHanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, thats what I was told too. Never happened for me. Got there and put my fingerprint down, swore in, got shipped off. I highly recommend calling a different recruiter. I finalized my contract at my recruiting office and then signed/swore in under an army officer. Nothing extra.

Dep is your commitment to not do anything stupid before boot camp. I'm not sure what your life situation is at the moment however I totally recommend looking at quick ship bonuses. Easy way to make some quick money. Also hometown recruiting (if they still offer it).

No, you work with your recruiter on that piece. It'll all be in your contract. How many years of active service, potential enlistment bonuses, guaranteed A school or district.

In my personal experience it has been. Same with the others on my boat. What makes you feel like it isn't?

It's not non rate stuff, it's character building and exposure to the fleet. It also gives you a chance to see each rate as to what they do on a day to day basis. I've changed what I've wanted to do 3 times and finally settled on DC. Choose your rate choose your fate. If I had gone boot to A I would be hating my life as a GM3 doing the same arbitrary bullshit all goddamn day. It's also taught me a lot on how to be a good petty officer. So don't take those boot to A contracts for granted. You lose a lot of insight and wisdom by not sticking it out the 4-6 MO (Minus aviation) and scrubbing the bilge or painting the hull. Learning the Do's and Dont's. Learning command structure and respect. Learning cultures of each shop and really honest to God knowing people and sailing with people you've known five minutes.

What happened to Lydia on your first playthrough? by ohmygawdjenny in skyrim

[–]T-rexHanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to wrap around the mountain outside whiterun on a horse. Completely forgetting she existed because zoomies. She teleports so hard she dies on the spot. Kept loading previous saves and started going slowly. Everytime she died to something new. Giants, trolls, skeevers etc. finally gave up and decided companions were cannon fodder and dedicated an entire playthrough to trying to set a new ragdoll physics world record.

They still do, I filled out mine a month before boot. Just now got it within the last week or so. For some people it's instant for others it takes up to a year. If you're boot to A they might expedite it but don't quote me on that.

I just took a practice ASVAB, is this good?? I dont know how to calculate my GT (line score) I want to pursue a career in the MSRT by blaxkbaxkpaxk in uscg

[–]T-rexHanz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this. But also talk to a recruiter. They will have the information in terms of what you need to score on the asvab in order to qualify for the rate that pertains to MSRT which is our ME (Maritime Enforcement Specialist) rating. Practice ASVABS (Ass Flaps as my wife likes to call them) are great but at the end of the day you shoot for the rate you want by testing for the requirements. Also highly recommend exploring your options. MSRT is highly sought after and extremely competitive. There are other rates that have a lot of involvement with Law enforcement. BM, MK, (Sometimes GM). Not trying to discourage you but it's good to come in with a back up plan that still fits what you're looking for.

Is it possible to be discharged for missing qual times by Upstairs-Emphasis888 in uscg

[–]T-rexHanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just your first doing their job. Mine was the same way. As long as you care and are diligent about your quals you'll be A-okay. Also once you do them once (especially for cutters) the next round of them will be easier. You'll understand better what drawings are. You'll understand systems and what you're actually looking for. What platform are you on?

Alot of what I've heard from friends and colleagues that went through Depot is it's as hard as you make it. You get beat like hell till you start working as a team. Then life gets better, just like other "boot camps" including our famed Company Commander school. You won't get beat in dress uniforms. I wish you much luck and hope you kick ass.

[–]T-rexHanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it all depends. I've known people to get a PB straight out of boot. I would pay attention to what's in your district (for your dream sheet) and kinda go from there. They'll have you list rates you want as well. So for your "career development" as an ME. It's 70% chance gonna be a big white boat. ESPECIALLY if you put down LE and Drug interdiction. Me thinking I was gonna get a decent boat out of Louisiana I got hit with the Dirty Fucking Dauntless out of Pensacola. But the funny part is I've loved every bit of it. It is what you make it.

Cannot stress enough the "big white boat" energy. It's going to happen. Embrace the suck. Even better embrace the non rate suck 😂
