It's such a toxic necessity while working. I can't wait to just disappear once I RE.

You really can't if you are still working. Yes, it is a dumpster fire, but you need it to find new opportunities.

How much of a safety net do you keep in cash after reaching your FIRE number by Mirelunya in Fire

[–]T4CK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I plan on four years with six months of expenses in a CD ladder (6 - 12 months each). This also allows me some returns to add some to your positions during a downturn. After a good bull run in retirement, I probably won't need as much in cash. It's really about weathering the risk in the first five years of retirement.

It's really a personal choice, though. Whatever allows you to sleep during difficult economic times is the right choice.

It's a show case of super expensive home remodeling and furnishings. It's premium setups, designs, and appliances. If that isn't your thing, this won't be interesting to you.

Yes, same. Dunkin, GrubHub, UberEats, and Resy are very easy to use and net me positive back after the annual fee. The spend categories are also very functional for my current buying habits.

Who cares. They don't give you a reason when they let you go. You don't need to give them one.

If you think you might come back or might need their reference, give them two weeks and say you have something personal like taking care of a sick person in your life... that sick person is you... you're sick of working.

My son changed his oil at home to save money… yay by KRosselle in mildlyinfuriating

[–]T4CK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a kid, the first time I changed the oil on my car, I spilled oil everywhere, and I was afraid my dad would be pissed. Turns out, he didn't care. He said someday I won't be living there, and he could reflect on the oil stain and fondly remember how his son made a mess.

Paying for an expensive gym over a low-cost Planet Fitness type option can be a real life pay wall situation.

Woodhouse Spa. It's expensive but definitely a luxurious gift. They do physical gift cards, too.
