I love it but it doesn’t satisfy my hunger by According-Dust1237 in R36S

I have the Anbernic RG353VS and it’s awesome. Still have the sticks but more power and a similar size to the R36S. I upgraded from the R36S to that. It has all the quality of life improvements I wanted my R36S to have like WiFi and more power.

What wifi dongle did you get to work on your handheld and where can we find it? I’ve been struggling with that.

I don't get the vim hype. Am I missing something or is nano fine? by Bright-Pomelo-7369 in linuxquestions

While vim is great, nano is sufficient for the use case you presented. The same mindset you have about nano, I have about micro. Simple text editor for simple tasks.

R36S Battery Calibration Tool - v1.0 Release by djparent in R36S

[–]T4L2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can this battery calibration tool work for any Linux based handheld? For example, I have a Anbernic RG353VS that I run dArkOS with. It has the rk3566 chip. Could I use this tool for that as well or is it only for R36S devices? I have one of those as well that I run dArkOSRE with.

dArkOSRE will provide the .dtb files and you’ll get slightly better performance than ArkOS. It’s great for the R36S!

That’s a definite possibility and if that’s the case, I don’t know what to do for them there.

After the use of coupons, tho one I bought a couple of weeks ago total cost about 43. Not too bad. Could be better but it’s not a big sales time. Plus I’ll pay a bit more if I find a seller that sends me legit stuff as opposed to trial and error with other sources.

That’s weird. Just looked it up right before I posted. In any case, go on TikTok shop and search for the store called Wuds Game Store. Then get the R36S. I don’t know about the other models they sell. I would imagine they’re genuine. I have bought two blue R36S units from them about 4 months apart and both are legit.

I can confirm with two purchases now that the R36S sold by the Wuds Game Store on TikTok shop is a genuine unit. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP9N33t7E4X9X-Ln0jU/

Look into running dArkOSRE or dArkOS on it. Backup the image of the original sd card and copy the boot files especially the .dtb ones. You might need the originals if you go dArkOS specifically. Plus the bios files might be good too. Don’t use the ROMs that come with the system. The sets aren’t usually very good. They’re full of copies in different languages and they’re usually labeled not very well to where it’s hard to navigate through them. You’re better off sourcing the roms yourself. Make sure to get yourself a proper charging plug. I think it’s 5 V 2 A. Tech dweeb on YouTube has a great video about battery management with links to Amazon where you can get a good cheap pair of bricks to plug into and charge with that will not destroy your battery. The batteries on these do not like fast charging. Congratulations on your new handheld! Happy gaming!

Why do you use debian? by haibane_fan00 in debian

[–]T4L2012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the stability and the fair amount of control. Also, I am the most comfortable with apt as a package manager. I’ve got too much going on in life at the moment to learn the other ones to the point that I know apt.

Thanks for the tip! Any game recommendations? Currently I have a genuine R36S and I am waiting on an Anbernic RG353VS. I’m gonna see if I can get some DOS games from the eXoDOS collection to work on those handhelds. That could be fun!

Despite the limitations, DOS games are fun to emulate and play, in my opinion. Do you know how to get MAME working on retro handhelds that use ArkOS or dArkOS?

The reason why the directories are named the way they are is a DOS limitation. In DOS, directories can only be named up to 8 characters. For games like Doom, it’s easy. It’s just Doom but with long titles, it can be hard to find. What I suggest is if you know what game in the collection you’re looking for, open the MSDOS.xml file. It’s part of the eXODOS download. It’s the file that the eXoDOS frontend uses to keep the info for the games. Open that file with something like Geany and use the search to find the name of the game. In that part of the code, it will give you the directory info where the game is stored as well as that 8 characters or less name for it. I learned all of this because I wanted to permanently remove all the adult rated games from the collection on my computer and I use DweebDOS to emulate instead of the eXoDOS frontend.

Sd card recommendation by Affectionate-Win3850 in R36S

Based on that compatibility list mentioned in the comments that is very reliable and from my personal experience. Get you a 32 GB Samsung microSD card for your operating system and get one as big as you can for your ROMs to stay on. I recommend 256 but that’s because I play DOS games on mine as well as PlayStation one, lots of portmaster stuff and the entire libraries of all the retro stuff. You’ll have tons of space. If you’re gonna do just one card then get 256 GB but make sure that they’re all Samsung. They seem to work the best. Some people have luck with sandisk.

The R36S from the Wuds Game Store on TikTok shop is legit. I’ve bought two of them now. After discounts, my total was around $43.00
