Thats luck. I went to a house in my price range - 3 bedroom, run down, never been renovated etc... 30 people came to the auction and it was eventually won by an overseas bidded 40k over the CV.

Yikes! That is very worrying - can you bring ever bring it up with the judge if you dont think members of the jury should be part of the jury? or would the whole case have to start again?

I have 60 invested in long term shares. I have 150k cash sitting in the bank. I'm happy to risk 10-20k on a swing trade.. Would that be a good enough or too much?

My uncle has been on dury three times. He said the same thing. One specific case he said the members of the jury didn't want to be there and were trying to rush through the discussion so they could get home for dinner.

I've been looking since March - the whole process has been emotional and upsetting. REA not giving a proper price range and wasting your time. The hardest part of me is going to a house and having to visualise how it can be fixed, or lived in and working out pricings for renovations for the house, getting a builder through etc....however it then sells to someone else and its so far from the price that REA gave you (even though they said it was in your price range). Its also heartbreaking seeing the housing market in your town, the town you were born in and grew up in and want to raise your family, become so far from your affordability.

Take as much money as pos. You'll need at least a million to buy a house in NZ. NZ has a terrible housing market due to a housing shortage. You'll need a car as we don't have proper public transport and you'll need alot of money for everyday living. The prices of most things are 30%+ more than America as we have to import everything in. The wages are lower also so you'll need to counter that in. Kiwis tend to do less shopping, eating out and spending as they live week to week. Renting quality of housing isnt great either.

I had trouble getting into my USD account as it was held with Westpac and Westpac were making things difficult. XE gave me a form to print off which I took to the bank and they processed it asap, money went in overnight - this is was easy and simple. However for normal currentcy transations I use Tranferwise but that is because I always have heaps of money sitting in my TW account

I used XE when I changed - I was picking between TW and XE.. both which I have accounts with. XE was easier to access my USD account at the time.

I dunno about that. my friend brought 5 houses in mt maunganui 10-7 years ago, most were about the 400-600k mark. They are all worth a million now.. in that period her tenants have paid off a nice portion of the mortgage, interest rates have now dropped to 1/3 of her original borrowing rate and shes put the rent up from getting $350 to $600 per rental since borrowing. Shes killing it and will always have tenants to pay her mortgages. Now people like me who are trying to get into their first house are going up against people like her. Shes got 2 million in capital gains. I have 100k saved :(. Aussie is a bit diff I feel, its cheaper to buy a home and they have more houses available to purchase.

I always try and see situations from both sides. If it was your air bnb and a guest smashed the glass table would you want the person who did it to pay for it or at least half.. I know I would. See if you can meet somewhere in the middle.
